Axel is not good in the air and stands off too much for my liking.
The reality is we don't produce that many top quality EPL players from the youth system. Only Pogba, Rashford and Greenwood tick those boxes in recent time the likes of Lingard, Mctominay and Tuanzebe aren't all that but we don't seem to know when to draw the line and cash in on time.

I think Mengi is a really good prospect as I posted but how his career pans out depends on him and how lucky he is regarding injuries etc...
It will be interesting to see what Erik thinks of him.

I haven't really followed his development so hopefully you're right.

I am not totally 100 convinced with him yet. As a CB. I he havent put out the beast mode and max level of a CB. In the last matches i have watched of him.

Maguire is lacking top acceleration. Varane is not top physical strong and powerful. United and Ten Hag still need a beast of CB there. A top complete CB.

Every top and winning premier league team have a strong and solid defend hard to break. Even Leicester winning side had Kante. Who broke down opponent attacks.

Inter Treble season has Lucio and the Argentine CB i dont rememember his name. Barca golden era had Puyol. City became strong when they bough Ruben Diaz. Liverpool became champion when they bought Van Dijk.

Timber is really good. But far far from a world top class CB. I rate Timber max 4.5 out 5 as a CB.

United need to find the next world class CB. Chelsea and maybe Liverpool for Van Dijk need the same. Future dominating lie here.

He only gets a 4.5 on the LuckyScout78 scale, pack it in lads :(

Nathan Collins has just scored a dribbly wonder goal for Ireland and is built like de Ligt. Wonder how much Burnley would look for him. He was linked with us under Ole.

Not sure what this says about the club or ETH tbh. He can’t get any of his former players to join? Not a great look.

Timber wants to be guaranteed starter. Also it doesn’t say anything.

It says nothing? He obviously wants to be assured of playing in the world cup, which he would put more at risk by going to Utd than staying at Ajax where he is a guaranteed starter. Not a reflection on ETH.

Always seemed likely. Probably smart on his part. He's 20, just had 1 season as a starter. Better to cement in a comfortable environment before moving next year. I'm sure we'll be back in for him anyway.
I'd guess this means we'll focus on Antony from Ajax, both were never going to come here and Antony always seemed likelier. FdJ, Antony, Dumfries as the main 3 works for me if possible. Addresses 3 biggest issues

Calm down, lads, we have a whole summer. We almost won the league 2 years ago, there's so much potential in this team.

You jest, but this is exactly what the Glazers think. The sad thing is, we’ll lose a couple of our first games and the fans and media will start to turn on Ten Hag.

Nunez
Timber

De Jong...
Antony...

I'm sure ETH was on the fence about taking the job in the first place, now he must be regretting it even more than when he watched us against Palace

I don't honestly care if Timber comes, imho he's not one of those players which we have to get at all costs, although obviously we need a CB to at least challenge Lindelof for 3rd spot or second when Varane is out injured, ideally a starting material to get the best out of all of them..

I agree. He has very appealing strengths but there’s too many question marks around him for such a high transfer when he doesn’t meet our direct needs and he may not be ready to make the first team in his preferred position immediately.

I clearly like Lisandro Martinez mentality more.

Lately i emphasizes more on fighting and winning mentality and character and personalities more than super skills. Consistent mood player.

I have to admit i rate Jadon Sancho really really high. Based most on his super skills. But the problem and where i can Sancho improve most is his mentality. But is everyone born equal a winners? Born as a winner?

Lisandro Martinez is a true leader.

Its same with Axel Tuanzebe. I see lacking of a dominance presence and beast mode more often. Your presence shall oze and smell a dominance presence. Zidane Zizou as a player. World class and CB legend Brazil and Inter Lucio. Their physical and body are like Greek goods. You can just smell the dominance presence and authority. Of a true true leader. If you meet and come up against a CB you dont fear of. Yeah you will rise your confidence. But against world class CB like Lucio, Marcel Desailly and Stam. You will not pass them easily.

Sum up. Timber and Tuanzebe is lacking those think i mention. I m still looking for a world class and beast of a CB.

And dont come here to say old CB like Lucio and Desailly are poor with the ball and passing.

Old

Old CB are poor with the ball and modern and City play from the deep CBs now are better than earlier. Not a chance.

A strong and rock solid defend combine with a equal strong attac win you titles.

Timber is more flexible defender and players. Timber might suit as DM too. But again. He is lacking something as a CB. Both physical and mentality. Of a world class CB.

Missed? He wants to stay at Ajax for another year because of the World Cup. Fair play to him.
ETH can’t promise him he’d be a starter with the status of Maguire and Varane regardless of how wrong that may be. Don’t blame him for not wanting to come here. I still think things can change this window, but especially if we move Bailly and Jones out.

Arsenal is after his partner Martinez, if they can agree a transfer with Ajax, Timber is definitely staying.

I have a feeling LvG is working against us here - I can't substantiate it, of course

I think a player with his qualities can play in the Premier League," said Van Gaal, speaking ahead of the Netherlands' Nations League clash with Wales on Wednesday night.

"That’s not a problem. But if he has to make this step now... that's another question. It is not so wise I think [to join United]. He has to play."

Or you can substantiate it.

Ah feck. He looked like he add a lot to our game. Slow summer this one.

IF we really wanted him we could have bought him and loaned him back to Ajax. After the world cup his value will be doubled

I think Van Gaal for sure said something to Timber to change his mind. I'd say this one has simply been delayed til the Jan transfer window. Bet he still won't be a starter for Holland anyway.

My bet is we sign him next summer. It always made more sense anyway to stay another year. He's young. No need to rush it.

well if he doesnt believe his former coach would favor him to Maguire or at RB, then he isnt ready he should stay there. i doubt this rumour is true

Why would we spend 40-50m if he can't/won't be an immediate starter?

I didn't fancy him at CB personally, but if he was ETHs choice then of course this sucks. Hope we start getting these over the line next week.

Let's get him next season then, he is not a must for this summer.

Let's focus on DM+CM signings first.

Disappointing, but I'll still enjoy watching him play for Ajax and Holland. Though, as @dutchred says above, I not only worry that his price will double, but that other top clubs will come in for him. We seemingly had a free run here which I don't expect next time.
