Kobbie Mainoo

No idea to skip the u23s imo.

Let the kid play one season with the bigger kids. Getting him into the mens team is pointless if he does not play. A year, or two, with the u23s while training with the first team is the sensible thing to do.

He does look special, but playing against 17 year olds is different to playing against full time pros in the premier league. Different animal.
 
Why wasn't he involved in the game vs Dortmund last week? Does anyone know?

He's impressed me every time I've seen him play this season.

Hopefully he continues to progress well next season and is of a decent character, because if he does he's got a chance...

Imagine judging the talents on the back on first 1-2 games of the season when the first years/schoolboys are still settling in the team, shitloads of injuries and somehow having to play Pool and City back to back.
 
Only watched two of the highlight videos in this thread, so have very little knowledge about him, but he looks rather good. Seems to be very hard to disposes, and happy to run at player. Seems like a player that could really be very press resilient, and then set the team off on an attack.

Hopefully he keeps developing, and eventually makes it into our first team.

It's something I wanted to see more at the English International level (because I support them).

I've been jealous of France and their ability to have tons of Ghanaian players, Algerian players, how German can have Turkish players etc.

Compared to the Rooney, Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes, Shearer times - there seems to be much more multinational players now playing for England.

I think England need more players of this profile in a deeper midfield role. And I think there's some very interesting players that could become options for England in the coming years in a deeper controlling role. Just at United we have Mainoo, Garner, Collyer etc.
 
This is the every touch version of his game against Wolves. He's looking on course to become a midfielder that has the ability to fulfill multiple functions in a midfield.

Rooney, Gerrard and Scholes all descend from immigrants. There has also been considerable Caribbean representation in England squads during their careers.

I’m not sure what squads you were looking at if you thought they were less multinational than Germany.

It's more that England is such a multinational country -

People from Europe, Middle East, Great Britian, Asia, West Indies etx -

Literally England is the most multinational country I've ever seen; but I didn't really see that type of multinationalism at International level.

I'm seeing it more now than Sven Goran Ericsson's period for example and I am glad about it.

The promotion of Greenwood I'd say was a positive, what happened was out of the clubs hands.

Heck even the promotions of Rashford, McTominay, Williams, Elanga and Henderson have been positive as they've contributed towards the first team after having been promoted from the u23s.

But sure, feck all positive about the club because we're not winning things, right?

I don’t usually disagree with you but I reckon there are some similarities. Fred is as energetic as a player can get and Mainoo is industrious but in a more refined way. I do think the way they can quickly knick the ball and play it through the lines looks similar. If Mainoo makes it to the first team I assume he’ll be doing the same job as Fred. Ball winning, playing it forward fast and getting involved in overloads.
 
What compels people to make posts like that about literal 16 year olds is a bit beyond me, tbh.

Just to pick two examples, Rashford turned out to be shite. Give it a couple of seasons and you'll see folk fighting over one another to brand Elanga not good enough for United.

Even if there someone in the ranks with the potential talent to reach the highest level, then the inevitably in this case is that the club will ruin the player. Whether it be Mejbri or even Mainoo, better they leave before the tsunami of toxicity that has destroyed this club also decimates their careers permanently.

this is the best crop of youngsters at the club since 2011. That’s a long time. There’s plenty to be excited about.

You can always find some similarities but Mainoo is a technical player that has the craft, guile, poise, vision and ability to retain possession in confined spaces. Fred is a high energy type of player but he's not someone that can control a game with the aforementioned attributes, which is why Fred is a high energy midfielder and Mainoo is the metronome/controller as the hybrid #6/8 due to his ability to create space and make plays. Mainoo's touch and technique is of a very high level for a kid his age.
