Lingard to join West Ham on loan

It felt like we would never get rid. Hopefully he plays well so we can earn a transfer fee for him in the future.

So he's got great movement,.

Works hard/runs around.

And the something else is off the ball movement?

Am i missing any other attributes you would like to add?
Nope - all I'm saying is good off-the-ball movement and in turn, space creation (which is something a lot of pros have attributed to Lingard) is not the same as "runs around" (which could apply to headless chickens) and is not to be scoffed at considering our current plight

EDIT:
And I mean no disrespect to the other poster who said "something else", just answering with my POV as you quoted me too

What being 2nd in the league and looking at least competitive in games, as opposed to having Lingard in the team doing feck all just running around.

This is what Ole thinks of Lingard's moves

Don't think I'm saying I want him around, because that's not what I'm saying. I am however acknowledging that his off-the-ball movement and hard work is a desirable trait that our more naturally talented forwards would do well to develop.

You are probably referring to Martial who even though has been lacking this year, has still contributed vastly more then Lingard did. My only downer is the dross will all be back in the summer dalot, lingard, Perriera. We need to be more ruthless with our outgoings.

Fair enough mate, i can't think of any either.

Interesting times we're living in.

Lingard to West Ham, managed by David Moyes. That probably would've sounded about right to many people a while ago.

But then again those people would definitely not have thought that Moyes' West Ham would be riding high in the table - being in the mix, as it were, for the top four (at the moment).

Not saying anything about that beyond that it's pretty amusing.

Wait till he scores against Spurs and Liverpool. There will be pandemonium on these forums.

He's an annoying player to play against but lacks finesse. He'll do well at any mid table team.

FFS I spat out my dinner all over the keyboard
To be fair there was a poster once who said footballers who play less are physiologically younger. The vote might take that into account.

Phil Jones is still 21 - I think we’re hoping he comes good hence us holding on to him

Don't like this. West Ham are close to us in the table, and he will improve their squad. I can't fathom how a Championship player like Daniel James gets appearances over Lingard.

A bit too much bile towards a home grown player who scored quite a few important goals, and always gave his all.

Yes it's very much time for him to move on, but a lot of the comments are plain nasty stuff.

Best piece of off the ball movement he's done in ages.
I presume as part of the loan agreement we will have a clause that insists he plays in our games against West Ham
:D
I never understand why there’s always this venom with fans whenever an honest fringe player leaves. I understand with the likes of Lukaku, Sanchez and Martial who hardly looked like they cared....

As is the case with Jesse. Good luck pal, I’ll actually miss him.
 did I miss the good news ?!?!?!
He will come come and he will get another long life extension like Jones, Bailly and Rojo :smirk:
Damn right. He's like that UHT milk stuck on the shelves that even the supermarkets can't shift.

I hope he does well there , it would be a great start for the lad if he could get a winning goal on Sunday.

Glad he has gone, hopefully he doesn't come back and instead get's a permanent move in the summer. Good luck to him.

Fred gets a lot of love on here for doing the same thing.

Agree with all of this.

Yeah no doubt. Fred might have a bit more about him though he's great at breaking up play and winning the ball back. But much like Jesse once he has the ball his problems begin.

If Fred was a good passer he'd be a cracking midfielder.

Lingard is probably the best player in the league worth under 20m. If he does well and West Ham decide to buy him for 25m they've done a great deal and I'm not even kidding. He could be instrumental in a team like that, don't forget he is only 23 years old and can still improve.

Fred has more weaknesses and few strengths to his game than Lingard.

I don't know if Lingard will regain his form on loan. But it wouldn't surprise me.

Fred has more weaknesses and fewer strengths to his game than Lingard? Right, right and the average English looking girl is preferred by the male population in front of the Brazilian model why exactly? Passion and personality?

I think you've nailed it.

Lingard is English and Fred is Brazilian. Fred gets more 'cool points' on this forum because of his nationality.

Also, as you say, Fred's qualities are almost entire summed up by his passion and personality. His quality is lacking beyond that.

Don't really see any upside to this, he's hardly going to 'develop' there, he has a short contract so any resale value will be limited, West Ham are doing well and could end up rivialing us for a top 4 spot, and we could still yet have needed him this season, even more so given the the EL is about to start again.

If he was going abroad with an obligation to buy then maybe at a stretch, but to a rival, for £1.5 million and a bit in wages, then I'd rather he was still here.

Hes pushed for this loan, I think hes not getting a look in at the moment, hope he does well , hes not getting into our midfield, league cup games no longer a tough one in Europa, and FA cup so hes not going to play in any up coming games. I think it's a good move to prove to UTD hes still good enough. Let's see

Hopefully he does well there, he's been shit here for so long that I have completely lost hope for him here but that doesnt mean he can't make it in a level below.

Upside part is that we get 1.5M for the loan and get rid of his wages. Its not about developing the player at all, is a chance for him to revitilize and hopefully we can sell him in the summer.

Also for a rival really? are you worried about how much will Lingard improve West ham?

I do know that,.. Lingard is not as bad as some people make out, and given West Ham are only 5 points off us, then it's a risk imo, Moyes for all his faults is no mug, and hasn't taken him if he doesn't think it can improve them somehow, so yes I am worried that this could bite us on the bottom at some potentially.

And £1.5 million + wages, so what, it's just another amount of money that gets swallowed up into the black hole, personally for that I'd rather Lingard trained everyday with us on the off chance we need him, even if he ultimately ends up not playing.

Local boy who grew upto play for his boyhood club and score the winner in a Fa cup final. Sure he had his limitations and may not have helped himself with off field antics but I for one hope he rediscovers some form and does well.

What would you say lingards strengths are outside of his movement/running/workrate?

Lingard simply has no use here, he's proven that pretty clearly in the last seasons. Even if we enter an injury crisis there are plenty players ahead of him. West ham are only 5 points behind but feck me if we have to worry about freaking West Ham having Lingard then we are in serious trouble.

Not so sure there is really, and West Ham shoudn't be threat, but it's a mad season, built on fine margins, so stranger things have happened than us hitting a rough patch, and Jesse finding his Jose form with West Ham, I just see it a pointless transfer given the money we are getting.
