Why should it be different from other places of work? Why can't football just be open about it's contracts.....

You already did this story with Rooney.I saw Lionel Messi at a supermarket in Barcelona a few years ago. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
Cool, nice patterns of shopping you seem to have, experiencing the same with different players in different countries.I like to go shopping, what's wrong with that?
It’s actually a copypasta that’s been around for years haha. The original was about some rapper called Flying Lotus and people started to use it about different celebritiesCool, nice patterns of shopping you seem to have, experiencing the same with different players in different countries.
Someone replied that he owns his own image rights in the bit of that twitter thread posted where the tweeter says that FCB earn money everytime he is posted on their twitter and IGWho owns his image rights?
It's hardly out of the norm for sport. Most 'places of work' that deal in salaries and not a static wage - people will kinda know the ballpark of any given close colleague too. From my experience and knowledge. Football it's absolutely wild with secrecy and no wonder you get friction over it....Why should it be different from other places of work?
Nope, this is incorrect.Costed around 1.5 billions after taxes in 4 yrs
- €555,237,619 contract [4 years].
- €138m per season fixed + variables.
- €115,225,000 as ‘renewal fee’ just for accepting the contract.
- €77,929,955 loyalty bonus.
it's insane. It's got to be at least 10 years or so old at this point.I can’t believe in 2021 people are still taking the I met ( insert celeb name here) at supermarket where he behave like a douche story at face value, and then angrily challenging its authenticity.
Not really. Messi is their most iconic player. Completely different levels of adoration and importance when it comes to that football club. He's a player they pretty much name a whole era for the club on (their most successful one too)But they used to do it for Ronaldinho?
They've done it for both Ronaldos too?
There will always be a player who draws a crowd, no matter what the nou camp would sell out anyway.
Barca would find a new star and that would be that.
Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs Quarterback, recently signed a 10 year $500 million contract but I don't think he is guaranteed the full $500 million, it's probably heavily incentivised. How does his contract compare to the biggest American sport stars?
Tom Brady’s two year deal signed last March lands him $50 million guaranteed + $9 million in incentivesHow does his contract compare to the biggest American sport stars?
Oh it's way more. Pat Mahomes (NFL) and Mike Trout (MLB) had to sign 10-12 year contracts to get $400-$500m dollars. The highest paid players in the NBA like Giannis Antentokounmpo earn around $45m dollar per year as well. How does his contract compare to the biggest American sport stars?
Also I think the NFL and NBA viewership is much smaller when compared to football. Not many people outside of America watch American sports much. Football is much more worldwide.Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs Quarterback, recently signed a 10 year $500 million contract but I don't think he is guaranteed the full $500 million, it's probably heavily incentivised.
Messi's is more and over 4 years. Mental.
Thank you for sharing this story with us! It's surely a sign that Messi is coming to Manchester next season. If I am not mistaken, Roy Keane, Ravel Morrison, Marcus Rashford MBE and even Sir Alex Ferguson did exactly the same once or twice. That's some kind of an in-joke between them. I am sure that the income from Messi's shirts will cover Ronaldo's fee as well and they can try to outscore each other in the very same team!I saw Lionel Messi at a supermarket in Barcelona a few years ago. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

While this is true it must be stated that American sports operate under a salary cap/luxury tax system, and the NBA has a max salary rule. Otherwise, LBJ would easily get $75-100m per year in salary and bonuses. He's probably the outlier though but the NBA players would make the most due to their global exposure. MLB players would still get big dollars but NFL superstars would make more though perhaps less in guaranteed dollars often paid in bonuses (they'd have higher salaries is my guess). Brady probably would double his salary without a salary cap which is designed to restrict player salaries (spare me to save the small market club bullshit - NFL clubs are getting like $200M from TV alone). Also I think the NFL and NBA viewership is much smaller when compared to football. Not many people outside of America watch American sports much. Football is much more worldwide.
In terms of worldwide profile and influence, it only makes sense that Messi would be paid way more than Mahomes. He’s arguably the greatest ever player in the by far the world’s biggest sport.Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs Quarterback, recently signed a 10 year $500 million contract but I don't think he is guaranteed the full $500 million, it's probably heavily incentivised.

Had the pleasure of meeting Messi at a charity do once. He was surprisingly down to earth, and VERY funny.I saw Lionel Messi at a supermarket in Barcelona a few years ago. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

But football tend to include endorsements in their contracts as image rights - Mahomes and Trout are not the biggest names in American sports, that's obviously LeBron, and his annual income has usually been reported at $100m. But the stuff that generally reports that(forbes), doesn't have Messi on $160m either, which is what this suggests.Oh it's way more. Pat Mahomes (NFL) and Mike Trout (MLB) had to sign 10-12 year contracts to get $400-$500m dollars. Where in the leak does it say these figures are after taxes amounts?Costed around 1.5 billions after taxes in 4 yrs

I'd rather not have my club bankruptedHe hates being painted as a villian, surely he'll be leaving Spain after this. We should sign him.
Surely comments like these are less than constructive.Must be the Argentinian way. Always seem to be gobshites
Again whilst I agree, how is this Messi fault if the club are willing to pay it?Well there's top wages and then there is half a billion over 4 years.
Because it's a negotiation not a ransomGenuinely why is it nonsense? He doesn't have to get that sort of money, he plays a part in the numbers. I'm not saying turn down the money obviously, but he's clearly making demands.
