Didn't seem to be mentally there today. Looked a step off and his decision making wasn't quite there either. I was surprised he lasted 60 mins to be honest. I was anticipating his change come the half at the latest.

But I supposed these things happen to young players, I can't be overly upset at him. He has the ability to sort it out.

With regards to Martial, how great is it to have 2 threats out wide? its as if defenders can't catch a break when they come on for each other. I really appreciate that about this squad.

How dare he be championship quality more weeks than not.
If that's supposed to be an ironic criticism then you've made yourself look a bit of a prat. He's 19 and will be inconsistent for some time to come.

So strange this thing. Neither him nor Martial perform very well when given starts. But when they come in as subs they are electric and a joy to watch. Even then thought he was decent today. It was so hard to get any sort of attack going because Pogba was absent and Fellaini-Matic were very deep. He is very young so there is still plenty of time to develop.
Nothing strange about it, they're facing tired defences, open spaces.

Bad day at the office, possibly even his worst, but no need to crucify him. I've seen enough to know he will come back, he's made of the right stuff our Marcus.

Missed the game, gutted to hear he did bad. What was his main faults? Being selfish, bad decision making?

He was absolute dogshit, seemed disinterested and was very sloppy in general. It happens, not really worth discussing.

I really wish he goes the Ronaldo way and learns how to use the ball well after getting into great positions.

He beats a man so easily that sometimes he forgets that he also needs to look up and create or pass. Reminds me a lot of young Ronnie (people here used to hate on him as much after similar performances). Rashford does not have the same level of skill yet, but he will definitely get amongst the top players in the world when he adds the end product.

Was a little greedy, and looked like he wasn't up for it today. He's a kid, so who knows what is going on in his teenage mind. He'll come off the bench next game and score.

Not a great performance, but shouldn't be written off yet. Have seen many times him making intelligence runs off the ball which shows good game awareness, unlike other "failed talents" like Walcott

He will be fine. I still think long term he will be better off as a striker up top (moreso in a front two). But for now, him working and tiring defences for Martial to take advantage late in the game or vice versa is perfectly fine.

I do think he was a bit more lax or off but not every teenage is consistent from the get-go.

Not his best performance today. Just keep the had young man and don't let games like today affect your confidence

His skill set and playstyle actually reminds me much more of a younger Bale than Ronaldo. Doesn't have good close control, but can beat people with electrifying pace and can score goals from different positions. Who knows if he'll ever get close to Bale's top levels but if he does we will have a hell of a player.

On the contrary, I see his future much more as a winger. He just needs to develop his decision making and taking on players but other than that, he has everything I'll ask from a winger.

Agree with the second sentence. He's somewhat immature ATM. Some games he's brilliant and others looks rush and several mistakes. I was mad with him today but calming down later, it's still normal for a 19-20 years old teenager. That's his 3rd season at this high level of football. He'll come good over time and all his mistakes will improve no doubt as they're more of inexperience than being average quality itself. I know people will say Mbappe is of the same age but Lets be honest Mbappe is just a breakthrough at this age it doesn't happen often to see a player with such a quality in this age. Rashford is far from Mbappe level but he'll still come very good for us in the future.

I'm still sure him and Martial will secure LW position for us for years to come.

The problem is his strange greediness today. He just tried to play for himself instead of playing for the team. No it's not decision making issue. With decision making issue, you may time your pass wrong, or pick wrong pass or passing option. Today you felt like he clearly wanted to have a goal registered to his name and completely ignored passing chance.

Both failed to perform when given start is a myth. Rashford vs West Ham was very good despite he couldn't score. He earned his start vs Swansea by merit.

Selfishness the the glaring issue this game. He had game when his decision making failed him before but his intent was good. This game however, as I just stated in response to @shield, Rashford didn't play for the team, but himself which means there is no saving grace. He didn't work for the team which people used disinterested. Ignored teammates so he could take the shot himself.

Keeps running all day, complete vanguard player and I love him to bits. Might not have had everything go his way today but he never relents nor gives in. He's going to be amazing for us.

Apart from Mbappe many youngsters have poor matches now and then, including the very best Dembele, Asensio, Alli. No need to read much into it, it is what you'll get working with young players.
And I dont think that's a problem per so. But instead of overhyping him and compare him to Mbappe or other players, let's consider him a talent who will have to develop a lot in the next year. Would also take away some expectations which imo are too high

I couldn't agree less that this guy's a winger. We have him there because we can't afford to rotate him with Lukaku, not because it's where he shows prowess. Just look at a YouTube reel of his goals/performances and see that he's much more effective at CF. (two goals one assist this season, none from that area of the field) I'm happy he's out there don't get me wrong.
What's most important for him is that he's playing, and in doing so out left I suppose he has an opportunity to develop and round his game, whilst at the same time give Martial the challenge he needs to play well for his place. However I think he's fallen into a trap by rotating out left with Martial because he's now often trying to replicate his playing style in trying to dribble through defenders onto goal. Time and time again when he isn't shown outside he gets dispossessed, because any route other than that requires more than just pace. I'd like to have seen him work more on his off the ball movement and runs in behind from the left, especially when you have both Mkhi and Mata floating in the middle begging to play it forward whilst Lukaku pins 2 of only 3 CBs.

Was probably his worst performance for us today, nothing really came off for him.

Saying that though he never hides and always keeps trying, I just thought he looked knackered. Jose needs to give Martial the next start.

Sure he will be back to normal next game.

I want him to succeed but he is only starting cause he is a youth product and works hard. Talent wise, he is two levels below martial. I d always say him and lingard are championship quality, i d still say he has improved but he should never be first choice at any position at united. He just does not have the technique or skill. Lingard remains championship quality and his major quality is running around a lot, while rashford does a bit more, i dont think he does anywhere close to what is required of a united player.

If you think/thought Rashford is Championship quality theres much more wrong with your football knowledge than there is with his ability.

You can't expect Rashford to pull up trees every game, at his age. Even Ronaldo wasn't doing it every game, not that I'm comparing them.

I think you should re read the post, i called Lingard championship quality and Rashford an upgrade. I do not regard him as atop talent or even a potential starting talent for united. He will always be john o shea/ Wes brown bracket. Substitute quality.

I don't think he'll ever be a striker. He doesn't have the game for it or the fight. All he wants to do is run in behind and that's not enough at the top level. He doesn't challenge for headers and can't hold up the ball to save his life. He has to make it work as a winger imo. Lukaku isn't too much older than him and I can't see him ever ousting him unless we go 2 up front.

You literally said ; I'd always say him AND Lingard ARE Championship quality..

Cant believe you really think that, but fair enough, everyones entitled to their opinion I guess.

Expect to see you here more often everytime he has a poor match.

On the contrary, I see his future much more as a winger.

Nah. he is a striker and a center forward, his future is not as a winger but as a striker only.

We lack quality wingers at the moment so in that sense he's doing a great job out wide, but his long term future is being a striker.

Would not mind if he develops a player like a muller who can do it all.

And how did you reach that conclusion? He was doing everything under LVG. His link up play as also top class during his tenure. Even his finishing was top class under lvg. The boy can do it all but he is a striker, not a winger.

I would have no hesitation in putting him as a striker in a 2 up front system, he'll be very successfull in that as well.

If Guardiola managed Rashford , Rashford would be playing as a striker day in day out.

That was probalby his worst game this season. If he is like that vs Soton away and Martial doesn't impress too meanwhile, Lingard may start in the big games next month.

He's really not though. Jesus is a much better player. I think Rashford has a lot more in common with Calvert-Lewin than he does with the elite talents.

What? I dont think so. Not one bit.

Jesus is playing In a Philosophy and Position which gets the best out of him, While Rashford is working very hard in a position which is not his natural one, But he's doing a good job.

Your statement is typically underrateing rashford and over rating jesus.

He's only a viable option wide if it's the right wing; he's terrible at inverting from the left.

Now Pogba is out, Jose should show some balls and sit Herrera deep next to Matic, and unleash Rashford, Martial and Lukaku as a front 3 with Mkhitaryan (or Lingard if he wants the additional legs) behind them.
