Just when I thought I couldn’t dislike the cnut any more than I do he goes and does that, he’s a clown. Game is ruined

I think he could have justified giving a yellow card - you’d think referees would want to give a more lenient punishment where possible in a setting like this. As soon as the red was given it was never getting overturned.

I can see why he gave that, I probably wouldn’t have but it’s hardly a shocking decision

Horrendous decision. The way football is going slide tackles will banned outright.

The laws and interpretation of tackles has been down hill since the late 90s/early 2000s

Every time I turn a game on and see him refereeing, I think of that Simpsons episode where Lenny says “he’s about to do something stupid” and then Homer spills fondue everywhere

Why am I seeing on twitter that "only Liverpool fans thinks its a red"?

Never expect Oliver to give well thought decisions. Just random stuff that keeps the talk about him. He probably has tattooed Euro 2020 on his a**

The funny thing is fans still buy the line of “you get booked for that in Europe”, whereas this tournament has proven that it’s switched. It’s noticeable how much more play has been allowed to continue at times, when you know in the premier league it would be a certain free kick.

That’s without the pathetic implementation of Var in the Premier League.

That’s a red? Are we being serious? Doesn’t even stud him, not even dangerous. English refs are abysmal.

I do not know about entire Europe, but whenever you play Spanish teams, you get booked every time their players take a tumble, because they don't get up.

From the replays, it seems Oliver had already made up his mind from a distance that he was going to send him off.
Which is even more crazy, when you literally have a video tool to assist you, is it an arrogance thing? ‘I don’t need video help’

I wouldn't have given it but he goes in very hard, kind of 2 footed and with 1 foot at mid shin height, I can understand why he would send him off for that.

I saw the comments in this thread before I saw the challenge so I was expecting a proper shocker and this just wasn't one for me

I respect your opinion, but I just can’t see it. He even wins the ball, it’s hardly a violent tackle. I dunno though maybe I’m just an old bugger.

Yes it is, seen it all season in the Premier League.

Dean and Oliver seem to be the worst ones.

I get what you're saying but with serious foul play, which is what the card would be for, it doesn't matter about intent or if you win the ball, just whether in the refs opinion you were out of control and endangered you opponent

I supported him....He is a showpony. Absolut wanker.

But then again, who is VAR? Why are they there?

Heartbreaking

Absolutely hate it when he is appointed to our games. Seems utterly incompetent and self absorbed but, apparently smarter football people think he is excellent and gets to ref big games.

His mental constitution is the opposite to what a good football ref should offer.

Self absorbed twat.

The whole “clear and obvious” thing really messed things up. Just send him to the damn screen to look. Or how about if the referee wants another look, he just blows for a foul and goes straight over to the monitor without VAR asking. Then there’s no pressure to reverse a decision. It’s so dumb.
