If he's so good then how come he wasn't even in the France squad for the world cup last year? He'll be 28 this summer and has only 3 caps. Isn't this just another case of recency bias after him just having one great performance?
He was injured. He even missed the first leg against Spurs in the CL Ro16 due to that same injury…

He was definitely in the squad when they won the Nation League a year before that…

If it’s “recency bias” then it has been a thing for a while. He was hyped already with Lille when he helped them clinch a league title against all odds. Against a 10 times richer side in Paris.

27 is a great age for a keeper. He looks like a proper upgrade on Dave. I could see us going for him if we get new owners.

People have already answered about his recent injuries, but regarding his actual number of caps - Lloris has been and has stayed a pillar of the french NT for 12 years or so. He's the most capped player for France and has by a large margin played the most matches as a captain.

Only retirement or a severe decline of Lloris would have allowed Maignan to replace him sooner. Otherwise, he has been first team level for France since 2021 and has been consistently great for the last two to three years.

That's down to manager preference than his ability. He has been worthy of the starter's role for France for 3 years but Deschamps has his favourites.

Injuries stopped him. Also it isn’t one great performance. He won the league with Lille in France and Milan in Italy whilst being one of main reasons Milan are in the semi finals:

Also Lloris could throw in 5 goals a game and they’d still pick him as number 1

Deschamps was very loyal to Lloris and you could understand why, even though over the past couple of seasons, Maignan could have had a genuine claim at the #1 spot in the national team. Now Lloris has retired, Maignan will make it his for years to come.

Recency bias? He literally was a huge part of lille winning the league title a few years ago.

Sad but true- Deschamps has a bit of a weird mancrush on Hugo. I honestly think they would have won the last WC had he dropped Lloris for Maignan.

International managers are weird and don't pick the better player a lot of the time due to loyalty to certain guys. See Benzema being shunned from the national team.

It will be down to availability. He does take a lot of contact and that won’t be ideal in keeping fit.
He’s been my favourite goalkeeper for a good few years now but he scares me too with how much contact he takes.

Others have said it before but NT aren't clubs, players aren't going to lose their place that easily especially when they perform well and are important members of the team off the field. Lloris was the captain and a leader for a NT team that loves drama and infighting. Maignan has been better than Lloris for a while but the upgrate on the field wasn't worth what you would lose off it.

And Maignan injured himself during a warmup game, he missed the WC due to injury like several other players.

Contract to 2025 iirc and milan obviously have zero intention of selling. So it's a matter of the player wanting the move

Plus he'll be 30 soon which means his legs will be gone.

He made one of the best saves I've ever seen when France beat Ireland in Dublin recently. It was a last minute save too when the place was rocking. Haven't seen much but he looks the part alright.

A much better goalkeeper than Donnarumma too. Milan played a blinder by not giving him a new contract

in renewal talks (obviously) with milan as we speak. going to get a deserved raise.
really likeable player. bit of an injury history though last 2 seasons, which is worrying for a keeper. but when he's healthy, he's unreal.

Is he for sale or looking for a move? Otherwise the likely price is "go away".
Yep, a Milan competing for the big prizes won't be selling their star players. You could argue they're second only to Madrid in terms of aura/size so if they're competing players have little to no reason to leave.

He'll make Maguire and Lindelof play like Baresi - Costacurta.

Money > big prizes
