One off performances don't mask the fact that for me there's been a decline in De Gea these last couple of seasons. He's still excellent and probably a better keeper than Henderson but they're on very different trajectories. Important thing with Henderson is to have the same patience as Fergie had with De Gea in those early years. Anyone who doesn't expect him to drop clangers and look like a fish out of water over the next two or three seasons is in for a shock
The myth about DDG is forever alive. Yes he made errors, like in the first game in the Community Shield against Dzeko, but he also made saves this world had never seen - and certainly not from an average keeper such as Henderson since.

De Gea is still top class. Those old enough will remember Schmeichel making some glangers and having stretches of poor form, but he wouldn't be overly doubted because his core talent was always there.

De Gea still has so much to give and it's going to hurt if he leaves and we watch him have an amazing decade more of football elsewhere.

Even if De Gea wants to leave and that happens, i've still seen nothing that suggests Henderson is the right person to replace De Gea.

Henderson seems like a decent keeper but is that what United should settle for? Is Henderson the only other option? No he isn't.

I am hoping Henderson will develop into a keeper that is considered amongst the 3 best GK’s in the world, because anything other than that means we would have failed to adequately replace DDG.

He certainly has no shortage of confidence, will be interesting to see if he can back it up on the pitch. Next season is very crucial for him.
Well, in terms of potential, Henderson is or should be the highest rated goalkeeper in England. If he can fulfill that potential, he should be good enough for United.

One thing I don't like about Hendo is his eccentricity, like Pickford, sometimes he tend to rush out unnecessarily.

But it’s not about picking out individual moments. It’s also not calling him an average keeper. But mistakes and concentration errors are far more prevalent in his game now than they were three years ago.

It’s not about cherrypicking games it’s about looking at a long term trend. De Gea over these last couple of years isn’t the keeper he was. Don’t mean he isn’t exceptional still but it means it’s fair to doubt that he’s trajectory is on an upswing

People writing Dean Henderson should be our number one, ahead of de Gea, remind me of people writing Ben Foster should replace Edwin van der Sar back in 2009, 2010.
I've got to remind you of this post.

Hope de Gea starts in Europa League final...

De Gea still the better keeper for me. Deanos better on the ball and at coming out but as shot stopper he's nothing special.

Henderson is absolutely nowhere near ready. Even his good games usually have a hairy moment

They’re both error prone. It’ll just go back and forth after each one makes a mistake, or has a stormer of a performance. Allison had the biggest howler of the game so far and got away with it. GK’s make mistakes.

It's not even a debate for me. De Get is a much better keeper, even if he's well past his best.

It's unfortunate our best keeper is set to leave the club. Hendo is not a bad keeper but him being an academy lad is basically what helped him take number 1 spot.

I've never got the feeling that Henderson stops almost certain goals like De Gea has done countless times.

We're stuck between a rock and a hard place. One highly paid keeper whose best days are behind him or a poor man's Pickford.

Well, lad, were still likely to pay for De Gea's wages in some shape or form, unless he goes to PSG, and even then, probably well below what he's worth, (Ramsdale fee for reference). So with all that in mind, I'd just stick with De Get and hope he has a resurgence. I mean his form did pick up from 2018/19.

More to do with having an excellent season in the PL last season.

he may not be good enough, but let’s not talk BS - he has deserved to have a crack at the no 1 spot.

Hendo commands an area. Who cares that he can't make a save or catch the ball. Defo should be our no1.
feck shot stopping. It is outdated

I'm fuming about it. Henderson is just an ordinary keeper who's preferred to Romero only because he's from the academy. Romero was the best no2 we could have and we should've gotten Oblak to replace De Gea. Now we have 2 keepers with high salaries and both want to play. Ole made a mess of this goalkeeping situation.

he has literally failed to command his area for 1 fecking second tonight. DDG might be done but Henderson is not good enough. We should go all out for Oblak this summer and stop pissing about.

Henderson is still free and on a low wage so they won't persue a top level replacement for DDG.

We do like to settle.

Yeah, no. Henderson is not a patch on De Gea, even mediocre De Gea of late.

Tonight should definitively answer this question. Or at least that Henderson isn't ready

If one more of you goes on about how we need Henderson in goal, they deserve a memeish title.

Not his fault for the goal obviously, but his positioning for this last goal is just ridiculously bad. I have seen statues move more than him, Salah skipped the sideways pass because he just saw it was inevitable he would score.

And then comes 4th goal....did you see that positioning? Salah went from centre of the pitch and Hendo was waiting on him in 6 yard box! That is comedy positioning. He is average gk who is on our goal just and only just because he is academy player. And only because of that. No top quality in anything.

Henderson has made a fair few mistakes in his short time with us, and his positioning is at times awful.
He can definitely improve, but can we allow him to carry on making errors if we want to challenge for the league next season?
Especially when we have De Gea on the bench.

Can't blame the GK for conceding 1v1 but his positioning was just

Not just the last goal, his handling for a keeper of this level is fecking awful.

So many chances he pushed right back into Liverpool players feet that he should have held onto or parried better. Cost us the third goal. Well, Fred and Shaw cost us it but point is Henderson could have prevented it.
