Ousmane Dembele - Barcelona Player

Why didn't we wear t-shirts for Pogba on Sunday?
We did do for Ibra and Rojo when they got injured.

But agree it's a weird thing to do, and I said the same thing when our players did it.

There is the option on not spending over 100 million for a player that has basically done nothing. I'm not calling it right or wrong but there's definitely a big chance of doing so and one of them is losing out because the risk of injury.

Well injury is always a risk, no matter the experience of the player. In Ousmane's case, I think he's going to learn from this. This isn't an injury that is going to affect him long-term, fortunately. However, he's absolutely worth the price Barcelona paid in my eyes, I've seen enough ability there that he could be a top 5 player in a few years.

Barca are the most lame and cringeworthy club around. Absolutely embarrassing, you'd think he'd just been told he can never play football again.

Those t-shirts.

We all laughed during the World Cup when Brazil tried to summon Neymar's divine spirit during the Germany semi final by having all fans in the crowd hold up cardboard Neymar faces.
Well, at least that was during a big tournament on home soil and their absolute star player had just been ruled out for the rest of the World Cup.

Right now Barca isn't playing any meaningful do-or-die type games, Dembele pulled his hamstring, and they act like he lost hig leg or something?
These t-shirt events should be reserved for occasions like when Abidal was diagnosed with cancer or when Bartra got injured in that attack on his team's bus. Thing is, whoever next picks up a slight knock won't receive anywhere near the affection.

I hope the injury isnt serious, although i wish when he comes back he will be half the talent he was. Sour cnut, i am.

It's just a muscle injury, the only problem is it's a tear so it'll take more time but he will be back to 100% in a few months.

Ffs. Imagine United and Arsenal if we started wearing shirts for injured players. Nobody would see our actual jersey.

Pretty sure Dembele liked the gesture. Everything else is irrelevant.

We would end up with everyone wearing Shaw or Jones shirts

You can't expect me not to have a cheeky sarcastic dig when you've came to the conclusion that my life's boring and the people around me must suffer because I told someone on the internet that they shouldn't celebrate a clubs misfortune relating to an injured player?
Youre coming off as Scrouge in A Christmas Carol.

Well, in that case I hope the next of your injured players will appreciate not having a parade to cheer him up, unless of course you want to assign a full time shirt printer just for these kind of occasions.

I´m in general not a huge fan of these things, at least if the initiative comes from the club rather than the supporters. It always comes across as forced and kinda tacky. There are exceptions for these when it does feel appropiate, but this is in case of life or at least career threatening injuries or illnesses (for example cancer) or tragic circumstances outside the pitch (car accidents, violent attacks, etc.).

Dembele´s injury while very unfortunate and maybe even "tragic" for him, is at the end of the day a generic Football injury, that can happen literally on every step a player takes on the pitch. If clubs start making this kind of circus for every injury, you won´t see teams entering the pitch with their real kits anymore and the rare occasions when it does have meaning are watered down in the process.

In his case, there is also the circumstance of his coach partly blaming the player himself for the injury, so the whole spiel is nothing more than cheap PR IMO.

Absolutely ridiculous that he's being paid 12m euros. Jesus.

Well what do you expect the second most expensive player in history to earn?

Also it's more like €16m (€48m divided by three) ;)

If this goes pear shaped getting rid of him will be neigh on impossible, pretty sure no one really negotiates at Barca. How can the be paying a youngster so much money?

I don't really get it either. Barca was his dream, he went on strike for them, staying at Dortmund never really was an option and there were supposedly no other clubs with a chance for his signature.

He is replacing a superstar might as well ask for a superstar wages.

He isn't. Barca have to pay him €48m over the next 3 seasons. In truth they're gonna pay him close to Iniesta and Busquets

Feck me.

Is the wage after tax? Absolutely insane if it is.
Also, 30m of the transfer fee add on is almost certainly guaranteed. So he'll cost Barca at least 135m.

Signing one of the world's biggest talents certainly comes with a big cost. The kid loves the club and the club loves him back.

Holy shit, didn't even read the last line in that.

What do you guys expect? I told you months ago that the oil clubs have ruined the market. The market is not only the signing fee, but also the wages and the bonuses, which go hand in hand with the sums that are paid for these players.

If this is paid for Dembele, imagine how much money PSG give to Neymar in wages and all sorts of bonuses. Certainly indicates that ESPN's story with 100m. bonus for Neymar and 50 for his dad were most likely true.

Barca make 700m. a year roughly and only register a relatively minor profit. A lot of those money go into wages and bonuses.
