Papiss Cisse

I can't say that I think that it was intentional to strike it the way he did. A swerve like that is one that you see when players mishit the ball and it goes out for a throw-in. Think he meant to take it with the top of his foot but sliced it, which gave it that wild swerve. Still, can't complain about the end result, absolutely stunning goal.

He knew exactly what he was doing, and what would happen by cutting across the ball travelling at pace. You can tell by the way he shapes to hit it. Ridiculous technique from a player very, very high on confidence.

He's just in the zone, and has been ever since his debut.

He was class in the Bundesliga as well tbh

He has been exceptional since moving to Freiburg in 2009, scoring 39 goals in 67 games for them, keeping them in the Bundesliga on his own. It's not form, it's class. I'm not surprised he has taken the league by storm, I'm more surprised Bayern haven't picked him up before (as they usually do with the best talent in the German Bundesliga).

So are the goals he is scoring and the variety of finishes we've seen from him in England the norm', or is this a new level from him?

There are two decent youtube videos with a few of Cisse's Bundesliga goals that clearly show the variety of finishes was already in place before coming to England. Headers, volleys, tap-ins, clinical finish at 1 vs 1...

I prefer the first goal in all honesty. I think the way he starts running away after he hits the second and his reaction when it goes in says that it was a bit of a hit and hope. Think he hit it with the outside of his foot to get it on target but had no intention of putting it where it went.

feck it. I'm going to indulge in a bit of muppetry for a change. This guy is awesome. I sincerely hope we poach him a away from Newcastle, the same way we did with Andy Cole.
Going of his form from the German league and his start in the Premiership, I'd break the bank for him. 20-25mill should do it.

His wiki is great right now

His twelfth came in his twelfth game for Newcastle, against Chelsea, in the nineteenth minute and he went on to score again in the game, beating Chelsea's Petr Čech in the fourth minute of extra time with an orgasmic long range goal.

He's got everything. He is quick, brilliant in the air, great touch, two footed and a fantastic finisher. Whenever I watched a Freiburg game on ESPN he stood out, but I never thought he'd make such an impact. 13 goals in 12 games in a new team that he is still probably settling into is fantastic. He'll continue to score more and more and at a real top side I could easily scoring 35-40 goals a season. A proper all round striker.

I swear it must be something in the water. What is it with newcastle and their ability to make strikers look like world beaters? By all accounts Papiss Cisse was a decent player in the bundesliga but what he is doing at newcastle is beyond ridiculous.

Heck, they even managed to make carroll look like the next great english hope at striker..at least for half a season or so

I'd say he was more than decent tbh. I see him as more of an Andy Cole, than an Andy Carroll.

watching the highlights on sky now, wow, that first goal is top class, actually wowed out loud at that

I think he is having a heck of a half season with newcastle right now and long may it continue (at least for one more match ;)). What he is doing now is above and beyond anything even he could have probably dreamed of. However, I think going into next season it would take a minor miracle for him to keep up this kind of form. I think opponents will start watching him a bit more closely and focusing their defensive schemes to stop him or exploit his weaknesses.

When he was playing in the bundesliga he was a respected striker but never considered one of the best in the league or ever touted for a move to a bigger club even in Germany let alone the rest of Europe. His goal record was decent but I suppose he was "hidden" to everyone but the most avid of bundesliga followers and because he played for the Freiburg, hardly a German powerhouse and only recently promoted team.

I don't think they would or could turn down 25mill.

If Berbatov and Owen leave, he could be the perfect readymade replacement.

I don't know if Chicharito deserves to have someone brought in when he's a perfectly capable cover for Welbeck, who SAF obviously loves.

I suppose that's a good problem to have, rather than the bad kind but imo we need other things far more.

That's for damn sure. If he scores what turns out to be the winning goal or even the goal that gets a draw, I'll request to be demoted for a week, that's how confident I am that his form is about to dip.

I'll see your demotion and raise you a week-long ban if Cisse gets the winner, or the goal that gets the draw. I'm that sure it won't happen.

Two fantastic goals tonight mind, and 13 goals in 12 games is magnificent, he even hit the woodwork against Wigan, I just truly don't see it happening against a properly good defence.

Blackburn, Arsenal, Tottenham, Wigan. Games he hasn't scored in, all away. He's only not scored in one home game, and I believe he's got seven in seven at home. On paper there's no reason to doubt him, just a guy feeling that he won't be at the top of his game come sunday.

if cisse scores the goal that draws it i will go down to the newbies for a fecking month and if he scores the winner i will go down for 2. he probably won't.

Can't help but think that they'd refuse, on principle, to let him go for anything less than what Liverpool bought for Carroll. Couldn't blame him either.

Definitely meant it. The way the ball bounced, the position he was in... you can just tell. I'd probably try something similar in that position because you know striking the ball in that way will have that effect (obviously I wouldn't be able to pull it off) would swerve it in the direction it went. If he wanted a clean strike he wouldn't have followed through with his foot the way he did.

He meant it. Of course but every striker has a shot sometimes and 'meant it'. Cross come shot. Full blown long range shot on target;

There was a serious element of speculation about the strike. Including the way he goes to track back inside without thinking theres a chance on goal. Suddenly it goes in and he breaks to celebrate. Unbelievable goal but you wouldnt go around saying 'I hit it and wanted to perfectly arc it over Cech into the side netting like that... Clinical'...

Just read about Newcastle's win last night.

Please please please please please do something good against City.

He was limping in injury time. Any news on that or is he okay for the weekend? Newcastle will already be without Tiote and if they are without Cisse as well, there is no way in hell they have even a chance.
