Liverpool 3:1 Manchester United

Not entirely sure what everyone is so moany about.

If we'd have opened up and had a go at Liverpool we'd have been absolutely murdered, those of you who would reply that well at least we'd have had a go would sure as hell not be saying that if it had been an historic 5/6-0 loss.

Ultimately buy Mourinho a CB in January, let him build a solid defence at the least before summer and maybe a last minute top four/cup run, then if there's still no light in the summer at least the next manager has something to build on.

DDG
Smalling
Bailly
Shaw
Pogba
Herrera
Fred
Martial
Rashford
Sanchez

That's a decent core for a new manager to start from. Hopefully Sanchez goes soon given he's on the decline but all in all its a pretty good squad that while would need revamping/improvement for the new man, there's a lot to work with.
Don’t kid yourself they won’t all be here for another season in Europa league. Of the ones that will be left, we’ll be looking at the weakest squad of the big 6 by a decent amount.

Finally a balanced opinion, people in this club are so spoilt due to fergie that they dont realise clubs have down turns. Everyone here feels so entitled that they should win the premier league every year when we obviously had an ageing squad after fergie left, accompanied by a change in chairman( which is probably even more detrimental in the long run as he recruited these managers and the actual signings such as marketing signings like Pogba - adidas - ).

Couple that with two managers which were effectively useless in doing anything for the club. You can say LVG gave us Martial and Rashford (who has been more miss than hit this season and hasnt progressed much of late), but thats about it. If mourinho left at the end of last season it actually would've been perfect, we'd build a somewhat solid defence, at least in mentality, and could supplement this with someone like Simeone or Allegri. But our board is reactive rather than proactive which is never a good sign in most cases of life.

If not for David De Gea we would've still got battered to be fair, which if he wants to leave (and I dont blame him) and we dont go for some type of swap arrangement our board is truly lost. If he does want to leave, try to swap him to Madrid for Oblak, who is just as good

Who do you see leaving from that lot? Even if De Gea or Pogba leave we'll probably get a great fee for them and replace them with top class replacements. But I expect most players to stay. Much like Chelsea tend to keep their best despite missing out on top 4.

Also I don't think our squad is weak at all.

How dare fans want less negativity, toxicity, shit football, shit players and tactics setup for the team to fail from the get go, god how spoiled are you lot!? Mourinho has only had 3 seasons and multiple transfer windows to sort this mess, he needs at least another season to turn this around and make the team in his image, it's clearly Woodward and the boards fault because they didn't buy him that 1 CB in the summer anyway, if we had that CB we'd be playing unbelievably good football and probably be at the top of the table with an unbeaten run.

Don't you realise, every club goes from winning the title to absolute mid table mediocrity for multiple seasons, you should accept this mediocrity, don't be so spoiled because you expect us to win the Premier League and Champions League every season, it's just not possible, especially when Mourinho hasn't been backed at all, he needs more money so he can sign players to replace Lukaku, Pogba, Bailly, Lindelof, Fred, Sanchez, etc, the players are just downing tools and are acting like they don't know who any of the other players on their team are every week just to get Mr Mourinho sacked, but it's so obvious because Mr Mourinho would never instruct his team's to play this badly, he is a master coach who only plays the most riveting football anyone has ever seen, Liverpool had 36 chances to our 6? Yes but that's because we contained them! Imagine what would happen if we actually tried to play football, they'd have even more! Today was a Mourinho masterclass.

Do you people even realise how you sound at this point, farcical.

I got some unfortunate news for you. It is weak. Out of the top 6 it is 5th or 6th best and lose Pogba DeGea and another one of em it’s 6th at best. Especially considering there are exactly zero guarantees that money from sales is spent well. A few of the players you mentioned are ones keeping us 6th best too. The Shaws Herreras Rashfords Smallings etc should be squad players at the very best here.

That's not news. That's a flawed opinion. Poor management makes the squad, collectively and individually, appear worse than it should be. The squads of Spurs and Chelsea are no better than ours. But they're definitely coached/managed better.

Spurs have almost 2 lines of defense that could displace our strongest back 4. Chelsea could arguably displace our 10 outfield players on ability alone. Stronger at the back, in the middle and in attack on account of Hazard. Chelsea have been inconsistent but are full of players who have won multiple league titles front to back.

Don’t be silly. You have to be willing to accept the limitations of this squad.

Lose 3-1 To the Dippers. No chance of Top 4 in December and playing the worst football for nearly 30 years. And YOU don't know what everyone is so "moany about"

Ok then. I thought your posts in the CE forum were bad.... I never imagined they could be worse elsewhere. Damn was I wrong.

Jose looks like a defeated man in the interview. I think he's a goner.

He's harping on about how we were limiting Liverpool to long range shots. Also as predicted, Liverpool's two goals were 'lucky'

"For sure, for sure we are going to finish in the top six", he says. This is what he has resorted to.

He's being rightfully grilled by Shreeves, and he's squirming.
Any chance you can share a link for the post match interview or give some more details about the questions.

It’s nothing worth watching. Most definitely doesn’t indicate that he’s ready to leave

What world are you living in? The problem is not our defence. Not the main problem anyway. There is ZERO sign that we have are working towards a proper footballing philosophy and are signing players to fit that vision. We look like a pack of strangers on the field every game, our tactics except for hoofball are non existent, and this is his THIRD season. He needs to be fired, Ed needs to be removed as far as possible from footballing matters. Oh and new owners would be nice too.

We are not even good at hoofball so who knows what we even do in training, other than the occasional set piece routine.

You seem to have bought into Mourinho's self preservation rhetoric. So it's not me that's being silly here. The way you overrate Spurs and Chelsea shows how inept Mourinho has been.

Calm down. It's not as if Liverpool are a big rival or anything. Mourinho is well on his way to having his second most incredible season - 6th/7th with this relegation level team would be something to be proud of.

We’d most probably be no worse off had this been the 6th year of Moyes at this club.

And I fecking detest the moany clown.

I will never understand how has Mourinho managed to hoodwink a substantial portion of your fan base to this extent. There are people blaming Ed for this season's disaster... because he didn't buy Mourinho a CB!

Mourinho has spent 400m over 3 seasons. Do you really think the current performance is at par for the time and money spent by Mourinho!? Wake up, people!

You're right. If we'd opened up against them we'd have been murdered. That's why the problem was not how he set up today. The problem is that after 3 years, he still cannot put out a team that is good enough to stand toe to toe with a good team without having to resort to a back 8 formation.

No I’m firmly Mourinho Out. But I can also acknowledge the reality of this squad, which I genuinely think very few have done.

We can either judge our squad based on what they’ve accomplished here which is just about nothing or we can see what their value is when they move on. It’s more of a long view but you can keep it in mind as we sell players to the Evertons, West Hams and small Spanish teams. Bar Pogba and DeGea we don’t have anyone the big boys are coming for. Whereas we’d look at Spurs and take 6 or 7 tomorrow if we could. Same for Chelsea and we can of course leave out our two biggest rivals. And that’s just domestic. Look at our “peers” around Europe. They play with fullbacks that have significantly more technical ability than our forwards do.

Mourinho 3rd season is usually the worst.. I think we can all agree now? Just sack the man to save our future

This is a shockingly bad post.

Mourinho is not playing, but his players did, those players disappoint us, not Mourinho. For the whole match I didn't see Pogba make a single attempt, Fred nowhere can see, Martial and Lukaku are like day dreamers, top 4 signing.

This is one hundred percent correct. You just can't play this team unless you're absolutely in tip top shape physically, intensity and pressing-wise. Our pressing game is a mess, the lineups are a mess because the team hasn't been built properly and this team in general barely runs at all. I was expecting a cricket score in truth, it was a horrible game.

If you're not a pure/modern footballing side and you try and play football against Liverpool you get a cricket score run up on you. It's not rocket science. Lets move on and get points elsewhere. It was a fecking horrific display from the players, Mourinho had a bit of a mare tactically but in general but it was pretty close to jamming a 1-1 draw.

Mourinho is responsible for that. This is his 3rd season, he couldn't have invested in full backs except for Dalot during all his time here ?

Interesting shot during the match of Woodward, face like thunder, shaking his head, leaning into Bobby Charlton while covering his mouth and saying something to him.....would love to know what it was....
"Sorry Bobby. You were right."

He and Ed built a lot of this squad, so that is down to them. Jose picks the players to buy.

I was for a long time in the Mou needs a chance brigade but it's so toxic now. The players are unsure of themselves and have lost their heads and the manager isn't helping.

The whole situation reminds me of Denethor the steward of Gondor in lord of the rings just moping about telling everyone to flee as soon as the orcs turn up.

Another performance where the very basics of football were beyond out players. It doesn't seem to matter what team we put out. This is an issue that goes back beyond Mourinho taking over. Yesterday was shocking and there's no defending anyone, player or manager after that performance.
I just don't understand why players who we know are capable of more, are so poor. People can point to confidence but even players who's confidence is shot can still pass a bass a few yards, track a runner, clear a ball. So it has to be something else. Is it really possible they have regressed so much, or were they player above and beyond last season?
I think this will be Mourinhos and a number of these so called footballers last season at United.

You cannot dress that up yesterday. We were battered, absolutely battered from the 1st min to the 90th. We looked completely out of our depth, the quality and ball retention was so poor. Many average players in our starting line up. The plan B is very poor also. I am embarrased with our manager, and embarrased with half of those players. We will finish 40+ points behind these come the end of the season. I wouldnt give Jose another nickel to spend in January. A 50m midfielder not in the squad. A 90m midfielder on the bench. People talk about this being a side he has inherited. De Gea, Young, Herrera, Darmian, Lingard and Rashford were the only ones who started yesterday that he inheritied.

Dalot, Lindelof, Bailly, Matic, Lukaku are his buys

Mourinho is not playing, but his players did, those players disappoint us, not Mourinho. For the whole match I didn't see Pogba make a single attempt, Fred nowhere can see, Martial and Lukaku are like day dreamers, top 4 signing.

Difficult to see either mate, neither played yesterday.

What I saw yesterday was a very good team, who are top of the league, playing at their fortress home, beat a lesser team. I didn't see a trouncing, but I did see clear superiority for sustained periods (though not throughout).

I saw a good United comeback for a while after Lingard's goal, but only for a shortish period, but despite this the score was 1-1 at three quarter time and a draw was possible. Klopp's decision to introduce Shaquiri worked out well for them and the rest is on the scorecard.

It is not fashionable to praise Liverpool on here (I must fess up I really do not like that club, however bias is self defeating in analysis), but I see a much more cohesive team than last year, when they depended on Salah's golden season - they will press Citeh for the EPL this season and a loss at Anfield is a disgrace to no-one.

We will build up a fair collection of points from the games over the next weeks and depending on the form of Arsenal and Chelsea, we could move up a place or two.

I never wanted Mourinho as a manager, don't like his modus operandii and the club is unfortunately harvesting the results of that decision.

There have been comments on here about a lack of a leader on the field and I agree with that, but what we need now is a coach who is a leader - the club need to take their time over the next appointment and find someone who can generate some self belief and passion across the club.

As a reflection, Klopp joined Liverpool in October 2015 and has turned an under performing team into a very good team in a shade over three years - I put it to the caff that our squad has more potential that their's at that time.

Put aside the bile against the manager for a minuite and look at the bigger picture. The players are a fecking disgrace! You are playing against our biggest rival at their ground and the only players bothered to carry the ball forward are two local lads in Lingard and Rashford. None of them seemed arsed enough to rise to the occasion.

If Jose go, there must be a huge purge in the summer or the new manager is going to run into the same problems again.

Much worse that this? Their whole team had shots on target, we barley passed that midfield ffs. We can't get any positive thing out of this shit. He is a coward and need to go now.

My point was that the score should and could have been much worse. 3-1 was a decent result for us based on what the game looked like and the enormous difference in quality between the teams.

The thing that irks me...

Our great teams in the 90s and 00s all went to Anfield and, for the majority, have either been battered by Liverpool teams, packed with players not fit to even call themselves Liverpool players or, we've gone to Anfield and absolutely shat ourselves and either lost or, somehow fluked a win.

I accepted that. It's always a fixture I wrote off when the fixtures were released in the summer times.

However, the reason I accepted that was because it was a blip from the norm.
That yesterday wasn't a blip, it is the f**king norm.

We can all say the manager is doing a shit job, the players aren't good enough etc and you'd be right about every single one of those points! The reality is somewhat even more startling...
The reality is, Liverpool weren't anything special. They weren't peak Barcelona or Real Madrid of recent years or, dare I say it, Manchester City. They just wanted it so much more and had the confidence and positivity to do it. it shows how far we've fallen and that is the real punch in the stomach!

I was already numbed by the Smalling contract announcement so can't say I feel anything about this defeat. Way to ruin my fecking weekend!
