Fantastic result. I just wish Liverpool weren't in the title race so we can celebrate even more.
You must be surprised to see Klopp at the top of the league because he plays exactly in the same manner, without focusing too much on possession or anything, and playing direct a lot with movement from the team. It's not a matter of space... you don't win consistently high level games just by being a simple counter attacking team. For me, the team we see right now is getting very close to teams that SAF used to have around 2008. And we all know what that kind of teams can produce. The mental strength Ole is starting to bring is really the upside, beyond tactics and everything. It pushes players into a confidence level that keeps them safe.No complaints today. We're pretty susceptible to the counter attack this season and United are happy to play against teams who leave spaces in the midfield, so the result is hardly a surprise. It wasn't inevitable exactly but it was always possible, and it quickly became very likely once you got your noses in front. Much like Wolves last season, you're set up perfectly to beat teams who like to have the majority of possession but struggle whenever teams invite you onto them and ask you to create something from scratch.
The fact that you have an identifiable trait means you're in a better place under Ole than you were under Mourinho, though. Under him you had no identity, no single tactic you were well-drilled at that you could rely on to get results against the odds, and that was after three years. I think Solskjaer's one of the weakest managers in the league and there's no chance he'll get you back in the top four any time soon, but at least you know you can pick up points in big games and create a few good memories together.
As for the absolute twats in our end who were hurling objects and racist abuse at Fred and Rashford, I hope the club and the FA find them all, ban them all, and send them on educational courses. They're disgusting pricks who deserve everything they've got coming to them. As I've seen said on Twitter in the aftermath, it says a lot about the mindset and intelligence of these people that they think they can get away with doing monkey gestures on live TV in the biggest game of the weekend. Hope they're embarrassed and ashamed for the rest of their lives.
This is a Utd forum. Why would you get stick for saying that?Might get some stick for this but there is just something so exhilarating when United play well in a big game like that.. perfect blend of directness, flair, possession without being overly tiki-taka. Edge of the seat stuff.. no other team quite captures that style when we do it well.
That performance at Liverpool away with LVG is still ,to me, the best game after Fergie left. This reminds me a bit of the Van Gaal years. I know, I know, rapid counter-attacking brilliance doesn't exactly scream a Van Gaal side but hear me out.
Just like back then, now you have the feeling that there is something in there, some spark and promise in this team because we always hold our own against the best teams, always show that we are capable of playing very intelligent and cultured football.
And then we shit the bed against Norwich or Villa or something, probably without having a shot on target.
I am having more fun with the pre match over there, to be honest! What's better than this post game thread?
Post game thread on Bluemoon. They are turning on their team and manager.
This game was also similar to that one because we should have been more than 2-0 in both but ended up with nerves at the end (Rooney missed a pen against the scousers as well). That performance at Liverpool away with LVG is still ,to me, the best game after Fergie left.
By some margin. That performance at Liverpool away with LVG is still ,to me, the best game after Fergie left.
Yep, they only play Oasis songs in between blue moon over there.I've just noticed Emptihad played Oasis song at the end of the match. Do They do this every time?
Really is amazing how he's turned things around. Long may it continue! Yoouu are my Fredshine..Fred is actual quality. If he keeps doing what he did today he could be one of the leagues best midfielders.
InterestingYep, they only play Oasis songs in between blue moon over there.
I think so. Before Oasis they used to put a photo of Curly Watts on the screen.I've just noticed Emptihad played Oasis song at the end of the match. Do They do this every time?

You mean the game when Mata scored two? That performance at Liverpool away with LVG is still ,to me, the best game after Fergie left.
SweetI am having more fun with the pre match over there, to be honest!
"Do we think they’ll park the bus??? I think they’ll see what wolves etc did, 5-4-1 formation while we have the ball.
We have the players to open them up, we MUST be clinical and not spunk away our chances tonight."
This is great, no? They thought we would go for 5 in the back. We actually didn't care and just killed them with 4 in the back but 2 excellent full backs.
Yes. This. Will this be the turning point? Kangaroos. Who knower? I don't even care about auto correct! Yeeeehaaa!!!
LovelyThis reminds me a bit of the Van Gaal years. I know, I know, rapid counter-attacking brilliance doesn't exactly scream a Van Gaal side but hear me out.

The famous Juanfield, still one of the greatest Utd goals in my opinion. One of Di Maria's better moments at the club too. That performance at Liverpool away with LVG is still ,to me, the best game after Fergie left.
Great result. Loved it!Good counter attacking football. Our team is better than what it gets credited for by our fans.
Yeah. He felt the pressure from the home crowd and after that and tried to compensate the rest of the game. Especially that Walker challenge on Lindgard is probably the clearest yellow you will ever seeWatched the full match finally. Am actually surprised that people thought Anthony Taylor had a good game. The penalty shouts against us were no where near penalties and would have been daft to give, our penalty was a clear mistake on his part as well.
Then not sure how Fernadinho didn't get a card for foul on James before Rashford hit the bar and certainly when he screamed in Taylor's face when the ball hit Fred's arm and the Kyle Walker foul on Lingard - wtf was that pointing the ball was going away, that was one of the most blatant cynical fouls one could make. Several other calls he didn't make against City, one towards the end where yes James went down soft but, it's a foul 10/10, go into the back of a player even with slightest touch, it gets given.
I know we won but, that was a shit performance by him.
I never saw the game, but I understand that it was well deserved. Two excellent results within a few days which could change the season.Get in lads! Never saw this coming. Six points from these last two games is absolutely unbelievable!
Wow, what utter drivel. The league is mediocre now because United won a few games? How do you explain United outplaying Liverpool at OT then if they're the outstanding team?I never saw the game, but I understand that it was well deserved. Two excellent results within a few days which could change the season.
I am interested in the quality of the performance, and how City looked, although I sense they are a squad that need some new faces and energy, which is understandable following their recent successes.
Ole, for now, to a degree has silenced his critics (like me, I am am happy to admit that...) . Let's see whether we can push on.
The feeling I get is that Ole is as surprised as many people are, me included.
There is a lot of bluster and pretty average out there, some recent results around the league highlight the overall standards.. There is little to be afraid of, but we need that confidence and consistency.
Looking at form, Liverpool aside, it seems the Premier League is relatively mediocre... We haven't turned into a good team in two games.
However, Rashford has inspired us, and has shown his true value and talent, and most importantly, a more direct and effective method of play. When he keeps his game simple, he is a more effective player, and he now inspires our team. Hugely. And he is scoring goals. I do hope he keeps that focus. Because we need it.
