I mean it’s not the worse thing in the world and it’s a good idea to try and boost the atmosphere but because you know it’s so fake it doesn’t really come across as a positive thing.

Imagine paying 220bn to embarrass yourself on the biggest stage - not only as a football team, but also a hosting country, with the coverage being overwhelmingly negative. Loving the fact this might be the most counterproductive and most expensive PR stunt by a bloody regime that will fail spectacularly.
That would be the more sensible approach so probably. Recruiting an entire group of ultras from one club knowing what ultras are like probably wouldn’t be the smartest move. Probably got a small number of ultras to lead things then used normal folk for the rest..

It's not like they need a professional choir. It'll be enough to buy one or two capos and then staff the stands with some locals and give them a little crash course beforehand, so they now the songs.

That may or may not be true with regards to human rights and dead workers, but I don't see how you could sell atrocious football, tent housing at premium prices and empty stadiums as a positive to anyone.
Empty stadium, team outclassed by Ecuador, tents instead of hotels.
In short they have shown thus far, that they aren't up for it in terms of football, atmosphere or hosting,.

Apparently, but it's hard to gauge what is true and what isn't when it comes to this edition of the World Cup. As far as I'm concerned what I posted there could be fake news, who knows, and for what it's worth I don't buy the 'fake fans' claims doing the rounds last week (us Indonesians go batshit crazy for national teams of other countries, too -- @Sky1981). In any case, what I'm trying to say is I wouldn't be surprised if the host pull something like that off, knowing full well that there probably isn't a grassroots support for the national team.
Let's assume that it's true. Is it farcical? Yes. Does it add to the atmosphere? Also yes. I don't necessarily think it's the worst of ideas, to be honest.
I don't think money is a motivator for this WC for Qatar. I'm not sure they would be bothered if the stadia were half empty if it was simply about money.

Not that surprising that the atmosphere in this game was bland seeing as the vast majority were supporting Qatar and they are completely useless

from my experience watching games in Poland, Italy, Spain, Belgium, England and Portugal it’s really nothing and you exaggerate a lot. Nobody gets physically attacked for stuff like this, in fact you very rarely see violence on the stadiums these days.
He would have got something over just somebody telling him to shut up and sit down. And not just at Millwall away. In Italy, France etc they would not have been so polite. He may not have had a physical beating there.and then but in some places he would have been pissed on etc

There are definitely games in France and England where he would've been beaten up. an away fan talking smack in the middle of home fans is not a clever thing to do. For all those people disagreeing, why don't you do it next time you go to a game and record it ?

It's never been about money. That's sort of the point. For FIFA execs - yes. Greedy, corrupt, gluttonous pigshit feckers one and all.
But for the Qatari's, the Emirs and Sheikhs - I'd argue and I'm sure they'd even agree it's about status. When you are at that stratosphere of riches, how else do you measure your worth as a human being anymore - at the golf tournaments and networking meetings these guys go to it's not about how much money you make. You might own an island. Great, but which island? You might own a Ferrari. Wow good for you - but is it a one of only five Ferrari's ever made, that's been custom built for you?
Then you come to football clubs, and that's what Manchester city are, as pathetic as a little toy for an Arab Sheikh, and that is why nobody in the football world has or ever will give two shits about anything they do. They're a way for the Mansours to boast when they are flying with their friends, to chuckle about lightheartedly.
At their level? It's about status worldwide and hosting a world cup is a great look. It's something to brag about. The money is a total irrelevance to the Qatari's themselves. It's the equivalent of Dean at work having the best iphone every time a new one comes out, or driving an M3 on finance. It's about the look.

The only thing that I approve of is the notion that we westerners are by default patronizing other parts of the world when we claim, rightfully from any angle other than some sort of a moral one, that the WC should logically be held only at a country that is suitable or capable of doing so to a decent standard. We've got Europe, North America, Australia & NZ, Russia, Japan, Korea, and Egypt I'd guess... These are all places where the infrastructure is sufficient or could be made to be, and religion & state would be sufficiently unrelated to accommodate the masses that'll come watching...
But indeed, What the hell do you do, as an imaginative uncorrupt and transparent parallel FIFA, When certain Middle Estern, African, Sout American countries want to exercise their just (in some ways) right to host an international tournament? How can you justify ruling them off straight off the bat?

You said he’s have his face ‘smashed in’. International games I’ve been to people love a bit of banter and making a bribing sign is just that, this is a sober crowd as well with zero rivalry between the teams. I get if this was Holland Germany or Argentina Brazil but it’s not.
