Rashford considering his future...

Rashford looks beaten every time he plays. If he doesn't perform this season he should be moved on. A new scene in a new city can make all the difference if you can't make the difference yourself.

I agree with that, and the same should also apply to Shaw, Maguire, Bruno and McT.
One season to prove that they can completely turn it around and show that they can take the club forward, otherwise, adios.

Carragher nailed Rashford on the end of season episode of the Overlap. He's just not quite good enough for a team looking to compete for major trophies.

He can be a decent squad player maybe but he has being elevated so far beyond his ability will his ego accept that and is that worth renewing his contract on silly wages?

So many people nailing it on Rashford it seems. You’d think he was Jesus except he’s leaving City.

Barely played? I think he made over 20 appearances in the league and played in 5 out of 8 available CL matches.

My point was, when he first broke out, he played in a different way. Making runs in behind, being in positions to score headers in the penalty box, getting on the end of chances in the box etc. Nowadays all he seems to want to do is receive the ball on his feet and cut inside.
This is it. He’s trying to play like Neymar when we need him to be Sterling.

I said nothing about being wary of his charitable actions; as I mentioned, I have consistently applauded those. Many, however, are justifiably wary of Rashford posting videos documenting how hard he's been working out, when that very same level of dedication was conspicuously absent on the playing field. Nice shoehorning in of 'gaslighting' though! I await your next frenzied response!
Footballer posts workout videos which seem more about how they look in the video than any exercise in question & you somehow think it’s been done to pacify you because you’ve decided to single them out for their levels of dedication in a season where a number of our embarrassing performances actually came in their absence. If you think grown men post videos of themselves working out solely to appease other grown men who do their best work behind a keyboard you need to give your head a wobble. He’s posted similar videos before. Rashford was terrible last season & his performances on the field are more than enough to judge him on, you may well be wary but it isn’t justifiable.

As for the further gaslighting at the end of your post. People aren’t angry or frenzied when asking you to clarify the points you make on a public forum. Nice try at subverting this discussion further but it would be good if we could stay on topic.

I don't Rashford much but thats one helluva bod. He is built like a specimen.
Yea but not sure what he's trying to achieve with that work out. Hypertrophy, toning? He's ripped as it is, I recommend the trampoline. I do weights and bike, but 10 mins with the boys on the trampoline im fecked. Gotta be good.

The problem with Rashford isn't so much technical skills or physical attributes, he has that in abundance, but rather the footballing IQ required to make the next step forward at the highest level. It'll be interesting to see how he develops under Ten Hag.

Technically he seems very limited to me. Sign of that has been how he’s not been able to adapt his game at all to compensate for apparent injury. If it’s true injuries have impacted his pace then I’m not convinced there’s much else there.

Louis nails it. Marcus is unplayable on his day. The trouble is those days represent about 0.2% of his total output, yet he has the status of a player who plays like that 60-70%+ of the time.

If we concede 4 goals against Brighton and 4/5 against Liverpool, the problem is not Rashford. And when people say he should've shown more effort what does that mean? Run more? If so, Fred must be an absolute rock star at the club.

Nobady on this team was good enough to compete for a trophy. We should stop to single out any player. Rashford had a bad year, but he was not the only one. Most of the team could not deliver. CR scored but his body language is so disrespectful to his teammates....

Rude of him not to paint his own mural in honour of Rashford’s charity work, I think

But yes let’s not single any player out. Except for Ronaldo

Louis Saha`s post points to both the problem and the solution. Marcus is not `only a squad player` as some posters think - he is a genuine talent, he`s one of United`s own and his problem has seemed to some of us as over-thinking his playing and his role in a United team that has lost its way.

I`d say that is far more likely than all the barrage of criticism being thrown at him as supposedly losing his way due to an elevated status off the pitch or for supposedly not really being up to first team football and `over-rated`. Ask the England manager and team how over-rated Marcus was when he was being chosen to play at international level.

Marcus` problems have not been in isolation - the United squad has lacked drive, consistency and resilience with a few honourable exceptions such as that of Ronaldo. Sure, I`d agree that compared with a past player such as David Beckham who never seemed to let off the pitch preoccupations and any injuries or potential burnout stop his concentration on the pitch and his amazing work ethic, Marcus comes up unfavourably.

However, wait until Ten Hag constructs a stable team with players who really want to be at United and have the drive to do what it takes to bring back success. Then we`ll see whether Marcus is the real deal - and some of us already believe that. But I do agree that no new contract should be discussed until he has shown he will have value in a Ten Hag team.

That's good advice for any young player struggling for confidence and form.

Forget the player you are today and rediscover that determination, professionalism, ambition and absolute will to succeed that persuaded the manager to give you a chance in the first team.

Put your trust in the manager and first-team coaches who only want you to improve, and ignore your "entourage" who have their own agenda - one that benefits them more than you.

I have my doubts whether Rashford is willing to accept the advice. Rangnick told him the same thing like a broken record too for months.

After Elanga's performance vs Atletico away which he scored after coming on as sub for Rashford:
Rangnick: '"He is playing as though it is a dream come true, it is a joy and fun to watch him play, I wish a few other players would take him as an example and as a role model," said Rangnick.''

"He's just enjoying himself on the pitch and he's fully aware of his strengths, his assets, his weapons. He's always trying to play and show those weapons. This is what he did again today.

"Not only the goal he scored, he had two or three great runs and whenever he did that you could all of a sudden see that Atletico had problems with this kind of approach. But we have to show that on other positions as well, so not only with Anthony Elanga or one or two other players.

Rangnick also said another time:
"Marcus, it’s no secret that he is not having his best time right now, it has to do with rhythm and confidence as well, yeah, again it’s our job to help him to get this confidence back and that is why I decided to bring him on."

"In the end he has to do it himself obviously, but the only thing we can do is speak to him regularly and tell him what we expect from him and what he should do. The rest has to be done by himself."

He added: "There are quite a few examples this season of players, some of them are still here with us and one or two of them are no longer here, have shown that it is possible to develop within a couple of weeks a level of confidence where you can be a different player again."

"We all know that Marcus can play better, but again in the end the steps he has to take himself."

Many previous times:
Rangnick in Jan:
“He is trying to give his very best and he does show that in training. There have been a couple of training sessions over the past few weeks when he has performed at the highest level and that is why I have always given him the chance to play again.

“As long as he does that, he will always make my list to be involved within the starting XI. Of course, it’s about showing that on a regular basis and continuously playing at a high level. For him though, like anyone else, there is still room for improvement.”

Speaking to the press ahead of this weekend's game in the Midlands, Ralf said that he believed Rashford's best form was not too far away, and pointed to the opening 20 minutes of the cup tie against Villa as evidence.

“I think in the first 20 minutes of the game against Aston Villa, he was good,” assessed Rangnick. “He was on fire and constantly involved.

“But then after that, he didn’t play on the same kind of energetic level that he did in the first half-hour. Of course we need to speak about that because he cannot do that regularly.”
Rangnick in Feb:
"We had a very similar situation, if I remember, with Jadon six or seven weeks ago,” Rangnick said,

"He is the best example of what can happen, again it’s the player himself who has to perform and get the best out of his own performance – and this is the same with Marcus."

Sancho initially failed to make an impact following his high-profile £73million transfer from Borussia Dortmund.

But after a rocky start, the 21-year-old winger is now beginning to find his feet in Rangnick’s side, with two goals and two assists coming in his last six games.

Sancho’s form has been in stark contrast to Rashford, who was hauled off in the 75th minute for Anthony Elanga against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.

Elanga went on to score the all-important equaliser in the 1-1 draw in Spain, but Rangnick rejects the idea that there is anything hampering Rashford.

"He is definitely not injured. He definitely has no issues with his shoulder any more,” he explained on Friday.

"We have spoken a lot about Marcus in the last couple of weeks and I have personally spoken a lot with him.

"It's with him like with all the other players, when it counts and they are on the pitch, they just have to perform and I am pretty sure he is not happy with his performances right now.

"Right now he is trying to find his best possible shape and performance, and we just try to give him helping hands with everything we can. We show him video footage and we speak with him regularly.

"In training he is in top form. That is why I decided to play him (in Madrid). Now it’s about having that transformation from training performance to the competition in the league – and this is the next step he has to take."
After he started to leave him out in March:
"To play on the same level he trains," Rangnick replied when asked what Rashford had to do to get back into the team. "This is all, we spoke about that a week ago, two weeks ago in a press conference. "Marcus is training well, he's got an abundant of talent, he's got almost everything you need for a modern striker, it's about transforming the performance of the training sessions into the regular games."
End of April:
Ralf Rangnick is hoping Marcus Rashford can replicate his training ground form onto the pitch at Old Trafford against Chelsea.

The Mancunian striker exploded into scoring form this season with three goals in his first four matches of the season, but he has since been on a barren spell since scoring against Brentford and West Ham in January.

However, he starts tonight against Thomas Tuchel’s side, looking to end the campaign on a high.

Asked if he hoped this would be a big night for Rashford our interim boss Rangnick told MUTV. “Yeah I hope so as, often before, he has been good in training and I very much hope, not only for himself but also for the team, that he can also transform that onto the pitch tonight.”

... but nothing changed at all with him.

Has he made up his mind yet? He is getting to be worse than Dithering Dave ?

I’m looking forward to seeing what ETH thinks. Really is last chance saloon.
i have a sneaky suspicion he may run his contract down though

If we don't offer him a new one then of course he will, no other club is stupid enough to pay him anything like what we pay him. If he gets half that at his next club, he should consider himself lucky.

If we allow him to run his contract down that a club issue not a player one. The situation is similar to that of 2 youth team players who’ve left this Summer; hate him or love him Rashford has value. We need to make a decision on him & quick.

United don't need to offer him a new contract - that should be the premise.

We can offer him a one-year extension now on the same terms if he wants it: that makes some sense, if he's worried about his future, etc. No need to be cnuts about it.

But if he wants an improved contract, he needs to step up and have a great season.

Simple as.

Prove yourself under ETH - fine, everyone's happy, of course you'll get an improved deal.

This is a Rashford thread so of course he is the topic of discussion. Go to the Ronaldo thread if u want to hate on CR7.

Also, practise what u preach please. “should stop to single out any player”. Proceeds to single out Ronaldo. :nono:

He needs a Change of scenery. United and him need to part ways. Sell him and get Nkunku.

That's harsh. He's always had plenty of technical ability and skill from a standing start or when moving at low speeds. I remember one of the England players saying a couple of years ago that he was amazed at what Rashford could do and that he was probably the most skilful player in the squad. Not sure if I agreed with that, but he is (or at least was) capable of some brilliant skills. In the period directly after he came back from the back injury he was also showing good passing and vision, making some great passes which helped him continue being a threat in the side despite not looking confident in his dribbling or ability to take players on.

What he's always been relatively poor at though is manoeuvring the ball when running at speeds. He's very much a kick-and-rush player once he gets going. And in the last couple of seasons he seems to have lost the ability (or at least the confidence) to successfully use the skills that he did have.

CR7 is just the example. He had a relatively good season, he was one of the good players, still he should have done better! De Gea is another one, good season but could not command his defence. Our best players are just good, which is not good enough. It is easy to single out a player, you could do it with CR7, Dea Gea, Rashford, ... But it's the team, which does not work. It was toxic all year and some players can not perform under toxic environment.

Can’t help but think he’s throwing a bit of shade at Rashford here. I had exactly the same thoughts about Rashford’s videos this week. Why suddenly stay putting the effort in now? Where’s that effort been the last 9 months?

You could be right. But could also be that Mike agrees in general as a lot of other players have posted similar videos. (Pogba, Lingard, AWB, Martial etc.)

People see through the bullshit. You can't walk around the pitch all year, shrugging your shoulders then post about how committed you are in the off season. You look like a twat.

Don’t see who else it could be aimed at.

I’m fully convinced Rashford is a bad egg and can’t wait to see the back of him

But you can come on RedCaf & talk out your arse because blaming one player not the collective has worked so well in recent years.

He's right though. We all want to support our players but supporting pure laziness is not a sign that you're a good supporter.

4 years ago Rashford always gave effort, even though his play left a lot to be desired. Last season he showed neither talent nor desire. His best performances have been saved for social media. That's why fans are pissed off. He'd be out the door in any other walk of life.

It isn't the collective that was briefing against fellow players or club employees was it when things weren't going well for his ego and it certainly isn't the collective that is putting out these cringeworthy training posts.

You would have to work really damn hard to find someone not blaming the whole group as a whole most recognise they are all shite with an utter lack of fight accountability or regard for the fans. Hell there isn't a single player in that team that you couldn't find a legitimate reason not to move on.

For a variety of reasons though if i had my way him and slabhead would be the first out of the door without question, these sentiments especially being made worse with Rashford given the fact that he was strolling about on the pitch without a care in the world against the dippers of all teams. You always knew know matter how bad this team was in the shit that they would at least fight for the shirt in a game that means a lot more than just kicking a ball.

100% this, its amazing that when fans point this out they're told to stop being negative and support the players, but like you say, to support what they all shown last season (Rashford being one of the worst) would be a ridiculous ask, specially under the current living circumstances, people struggling to fill their car up and are told constantly to support the lazy millionaires who are suppose to be the one of the few highlights of the week (haven't been entertained by them for a decade).

Also, I was told that you'll find out the character of someone when the going gets tough, these players have shown their true character and the don't deserve another chance because when if they somehow manage to be in a fight (for too4 or a final by some miracle) then they'll crumble, like they have done pretty consistently for a while now, it won't happen because technically they're slightly too good, but if they were in a relegation fight I doubt they'd handle it well - if we were in Evertons position last season, I reckon Burnley would have stayed up.
