Rashford on free kicks

Absolutely stunning strike but we still need a consistent set-piece specialist.:D

That was like Ronaldo vs Portsmouth when David James just stood there and threw his arms up like "wtf am I meant to do about that"

The last time I saw something dip as quickly as that it was being managed by Poch.

I don't mean to sound like a glass half empty type of guy, but we're probably going to pay for that goal in shooting hubris, i.e. by a long series of ambitious and failed attempted strikes from Rashy.

Enjoy the moment you miserable fecker

Wonder how many of them he's got on target this season.

That freekick technique is pretty much pot luck, you're relying on fecking up the stability of the airflow by hitting the valve. Even Ronaldo has an absolutely horrible conversion rate, but when it works it's amazing.

Fantastic goal and bought himself a few more months of row Z specials.

Yeah, it's blind luck. Ronaldo is shit at freekicks, but when they do go in they are spectacular.

If you paid attention you would know his freekick and shot from distance accuracy had been improving.

Which do you prefer:

vs Chelsea:

or

vs Celta Vigo:

So how many ‘tries’ before we see his next FK banger? We can make this into a thing :D

On a serious note, it was an exquisite hit. Could not have hit it any better, and no keeper in the world is saving that.

It finally worked guys:lol: Amazing strike.
Was it worth it? I'm on the fence honestly. If he improved his allround game, everyone would be a lot more patient with him. These moments are always great, but we have to be honest too and admit that he can't just live on his moments forever. I hope he gradually improves his allround game as he gets older now.

It's not pot luck. If you hit the ball the same way 100 times you will get the exact same result 100 times. It's physics not magic.

Having said that, the reason why Ronaldo and Rashford get it wrong so often is because there is very little margin for error with this technique. You have to hit it with power at a precise spot and a slight variation in hitting the spot coukd lead to a very different outcome.

It's obvious Rashford must be scoring loads of these in training.

I have no problem with Rashford taking free kicks from deep. He has the technique to trouble keepers like we saw today, but he needs distance to get it up and over the wall. But anything inside 25 yards he should leave to someone else...

Magnificent goal.

It's been a multi year and bazillion Z row attempts building up to this payoff though. It's like TV drama where theres a long term set up for that one big moment. Or nothing like that, most likely.

And ignoring other condition (wind, ball condition, pitch condition, etc.)? If you hit the ball the same way 100 times you may get many different results because you're doing it in real world, not simulation.

This is real life, not a simulation model.

That was a stunning goal. Fans often forget Rashford is only 21 y.o. and there is every reason to expect he can become (much) better than he is now.

Chelsea, obvs.
As far as the free kicks themselves, yeah, agreed.

However, when you consider the context of the Celta one where, at that point in the season, we had pretty much given up on the league and put all our eggs in the Europa basket, as well as Zlatan getting injured so we ended up needing Rashford to step up; well, to do that in a game of that magnitude, under said circumstances, was mighty impressive!

Not 21 anymore :D

Yup. That was an absolute beauty, but he only does that 1/20 times, so we need someone who can be a consistent threat on FK's. Pereira is at least better on corners than Youngs floating shite, but there is still room for improvement and in any case dont i think Pereira will be a mainstay in this side once we get some new midfielders in

Was a sensational FK.

Pogba and Mata should take them when they're on the pitch.

I have to admit that when he was lining it up I expected nothing more than the fans in row z watching it sail over them

I don’t mind being wrong when you get to see a free kick like that ... what a beast!

When they are at a distance, and he has the space for the ball to dip, he should have a go.

When its closer, and it needs to be curled into a corner, then he should be nowhere near them.

Im not sure who besides Mata has good technique, but i expect Andreas probably does.

I think people fail to appreciate how few free kicks are scored. Maddison scored the most in the PL last season with a total of only 3.

It was a brilliant freekick. It moved so much I thought it took a deflection.
