“No, no, dear god, no” was my response to us signing him as I knew he was little more than Darren Bent on steroids. People point at his goal record and say “look, he must be class, he’s Belgium’s top scorer ever” but don’t realise that he’s scored all his goals against Gibraltar and the Faroe Islands and the sum total of c*ck all against anyone in the world’s top 30 nations.
When he first signed, people were raving over him as he scored every game to begin with, but we had the gentlest fixture list imaginable to start and as soon as he came up against quality opposition his abysmal lack of touch was shown up.
This is what frustrates me the most about him, because he’s such a unit, he shields the ball when he fails to trap it, so he doesn’t technically lose possession as he takes 3 or 4 touches to control it, but it slows down the attack every bloody time.
As I’ve said repeatedly, if he played for Pep, he’d be transfer listed before lunch on day one.
There’s only 2 united players I’ve genuinely disliked in over 30 years of supporting them; Michael Owen (for obvious reasons) and Romelu Lukaku. I never thought anyone could take Mickey’s crown, but all this cry-baby stuff is starting to run him close. I’m so very, very glad he’s gone.
