I hope everybody has enjoyed their last weekend before the World Cup starts. I hope England supporters enjoyed a weekend without watching their side lose. I know I'm happy with a weekend where I haven't had to sit through the Wallabies losing.

Most people I’ve spoken to are resigned to not making it out of the group and the whole coaching group getting sacked. Also looking forward to club rugby being back and being able to watch in person.

Club rugby is where it’s at. Well, whilst we’ve still got a few solvent teams

It was sad looking at the fixture list for the Gallagher Premiership to find that there are just 18 home and away games when previously, and in my time watching the comp weekly since 2016, there were more than 20 home and away matches.

Chile will be out of the World Cup by the time the weather gets chilly in France. It'll be nice for whoever wins a World Cup match in Nice. Kiwis will be hoping a man called Ian can foster a winning environment.

Luckily (not for the last few years) I support Bath, so they’ll likely be one of the last clubs standing.

Well I support(ed) Wasps….fortunately I’m a fan of the french league as that’s where most of them are playing now.

Bath have some exciting times ahead I reckon, and yes, if they cut the league down to 4 teams you might make the playoffs :D

Well I’m just looking forward to seeing Finn Russell in person for the probable five games he will be available for this year.

He’ll be absolutely brilliant for one of those games and have a minor calf strain for the other four

I've done a World Cup predictor on Rugbypass's website and there's more heartbreak on the way for Ireland, just a little later than normal. Australia finishing 3rd which I will regard as a successful tournament for us and South Africa retaining the World Cup beating Ireland in the final.

Pool A top two : France & New Zealand; Pool B top two: South Africa & Ireland; Pool C top two: Australia & Fiji; Pool D top two: Argentina & England

QF1: Australia vs England QF2: South Africa vs New Zealand QF3: Argentina vs Fiji QF4: France vs Ireland

Semi Final 1: Australia vs South Africa Semi Final 2: Argentina vs Ireland

3rd & 4th playoff: Australia vs Argentina

Final: South Africa vs Ireland

If we do end up facing you we’ll knock you out. I mean it as well.

You’re shit, and I know I know, we’re arguably even shitter….but we’ll still end up winning.

I will happily donate £20 to a charity of your choice if you warm-weathered stable-economy bastards knock us out. It just won’t happen though

I think this is probably a pretty good set of predictions. Im more inclined to pick France over Ireland but that one could go either way.

Anyone know the specifics of the Chalureau assault charges? They sound pretty mad at face value but can’t find any details online other than the charges and the identity of the other players he assaulted.

@JPRouve ?
In 2020 at night Chalureau went on a rampage and punched everything around. Allegedly 2 players from Castres, one of his friend who was protecting the other players and someone else. He got a suspended prison sentence of 6 months in 2020.

……and allegedly spewed a load of racist abuse whilst battering them (which he denies)

It is denied but according to the victim (Yannick Larguet)itself, he said "Alors comment ça va les bougnouls." and then punched him when he(the victim) stepped back. It's one definitely xenophobic sentence but there wasn't load of racist abuse, loads of punches though and seemingly loads of damages.

Eh…you’ll have to translate that mate. My french is pretty basic, and I never though, ‘maybe I’ll need to learn xenophobic abuse to get by when I’m in France’

I don't really know how to translate it, it's a pejorative term for north africans/arabs. It's not something that I have often heard.

I'm keen for Eddie Jones getting his first win in his 2nd stint as Wallabies coach against Georgia on the weeken. Well, hopefully that'll happen.

Thanks. Sounds like a crazy brawl. One bloke taking on a bunch of other rugby players and coming out on top. The racist stuff is a rough charge for him to live with though. Apparently he’s not even a particularly good player? Seems strange to risk squad cohesion by selecting him?

He is pretty good especially as a lineout specialist and I don't think that squad cohesion was ever at risk. Truth be told, that situation in 2023 is entirely created by the press and politicians due to someone recently remembering that his appeal was in November otherwise the story had been forgotten.

I would understand excluding him from day one as a principle but it's not what is currently happening. Interestingly for years I have been against the selection of Haouas because he is a known burglar and a generally violent man but only few people in media have ever made that request, now he is likely/hopefully done after a security camera caught him batter his girlfriend.

So he‘s a Haouas burglar? (A joke so bad it probably won’t make sense in French or English!)

I’m a bit worried that this rugby WC is happening at a time when my love for football is at an all time low. Could be the nudge that makes me give up on football completely…
Wait till Ireland are knocked out by NZ in the QF, you'll quickly forget about Rugby then...

Jokes aside it should be a great WC. There are 4 very strong teams, I can't remember the last time the WC was this open. My bet is a France win tonight.

Or don’t make it out of our group.

I was going to say that at least we won’t have any player accused or rape but yeah… Paddy Jackson…

France to win by about 15. An injury before the match to Dupont would change things.

Ireland have broken my heart one too many times to get my hopes up. Obviously I want us to win it, but that's kinda like getting extremely involved in the Transfer forum. You're just setting yourself up for the blues.

Whatever about home advantage don't fancy France tonight at all think the All Blacks will win and very convincingly at that. Outright tending to go towards South Africa.
