He's the most developed player out of the best international youth team in the world currently, the England 2000 group who are world champions. He was considered too advanced to be playing in that age group but won the U19 Euros with England last summer instead and made team of the tournament. He is arguably the best 17 year old player in the world currently. When someone garners the attention this kid is getting, it certainly does beg for a thorough examination of him as a player. I'm just curious because I've watched nothing more of him than a few youtube videos and they only highlight his goals, really, which is the least interesting thing (as they are a given - the kid scores goals) as you then want to know how he handles himself, his potential for growth and his understanding of the game.
I was going to ask a lot of full-back related questions, but sounds like he's got little in common with the position - if we're talking attacking talent, then he's got a lot to live up to when there's so many potentially great youngsters coming through in those positions. Would you rate him along the lines of a Coman, Dembele or the myriad of wing-forwards making their name having broken through and gone on to top clubs?
You mentioned Bale, but a young Bale was a ridiculous athlete with a very refined left foot (crossing, free kicks, shooting) is it just Sessegnon's shooting you'd compare in terms of technique with his connections to the ball?
I just wonder if this kid is English-level good or whether he's a world-scale young talent. I know next to nothing of his hype train, so I'm trying to create a point of reference from this thread.
He's played 19 games for Fulham this season as a left back but has 13 goals and assists in 13 games as an attacking left player. Since they moved him up the pitch they have been on a great run which has seen them challenging for automatic promotion after being mid table.
The comparisons with Bale more come from him being a good left back who will likely end up as a left attacking player. He isn't quite as athletic as Bale at the moment, he is too small although his manager praised his engine and work rate.
Currently I would rank him among the like of Dembele and Coman in terms of potential, not sure how you couldn't. He is supposed to be a great professional and level person too so I can't see why he shouldn't fulfill his potential.
He isn't the most gifted player technically. Foden, Sancho and Hudson Odoi are far more likely to bring the house down with amazing skill or technique but that doesn't mean Sessegnon won't be a top player.
