2 years ago we would all agree that De Gea was our most consistent player, even a debate to call him our all time best, at the level of Schmeichel and Van der Sar was in place. He was worldclass, consistent, not good at distribution but amazing at shot saving.
Now the situation is completely different, his form has fell from a cliff. Crystal Palace second goal today it's completely on him, it's not a nasty mistake like the other ones he made last season but it shows that his bad form continues. Mistakes have been a constant in the last two years, this is not a bad form patch this is De Gea's current level.
More worriying is that he has made nasty mistakes specially on important games, against Arsenal, Chelsea, City, Barcelona...in all those games he gifted them a goal.
In my opinion he is not a top GK anymore, he is not even a regular keeper, I would very much preffer an average keeper than current De Gea capable of one great save one minute and a major feck up the next one.
Do you have faith in him regaining his form? The way I see it, appart from the sentimentalism, he is another Alexis Sanchez case, but with De Gea we can get rid of him at the end of the season.
So with his contract expiring next summer the question is should we renew him? we are talking about the already best paid GK in the world who, if reports are true, is asking for his wages to be doubled.
