The modern group are a good core of players but its not Spain 2010, Brazil 02 or France 98 levels good. The idea England 'should' be winning the World Cup is a sick joke. Especially when you cycle through the French and Brazil squads. England are certainly one of the better teams, but I wouldnt place Englands chances above Spain, Netherlands, Argentina, Germany, Belgium, Portugal.

Italy are a great side, the European champions. It was a 1-0 away defeat in Italy. I mean, do England fans honestly think 'this' England team is some sort of sensational national team?
I can see why you support Arsenal.

'tis a silly place
I'm fed up of England fans. Why can't they jut accept that my views on Gareth Safegate are gospel and stop aspiring for something better? Their diamond shoes are too tight.

“Italy are a great side”

really? They got humped by Germany last time out and Germany are no great shakes at the moment either. They also didn’t qualify for the World Cup and were beaten by north Macedonia.
If you really think Italy are “great” then I think we’ll disagree on most football related matters.

Give it to Wreck-It Ralf. He was the answer to our prayers apparently, so he's got to be in with a shout. He can do his press conferences telling everybody what is so wrong with the England setup.

I totally agree. I think one or two on here are slightly delusional about this England squad. Words like "golden generation" getting thrown about.

Who are our world class footballers to call it golden? Probably Harry Kane and that's about it, and that man needs service if he's going to be remotely effective.

England are just one of a bunch of sides that can reasonably expect to compete at the back end of the tournaments but we're no way near good enough or talented enough to think we should be on a pedestal.

None of this defends Southgate at the moment, though. Performances are genuinely pathetic right now.

Caretaker then look at appointing someone full time before next internationals in March
And just who could the caretaker be, and then who could the next full time manager be, are there really any suitable or available candidates??

Shades of Ole's team training well and being a great bunch of lads. Same culture of encouraged mediocrity and failure

Only shades I can see is they done well to start and it's done now. But Ole had balls, where as Southgate is just survive set up defensive.

They aren't close that way. Southgate wouldn't never throw the sink at it. That euro final he should have been sacked for that alone

To be fair it might not make sense for a manger change right now unless southgate's lost the dressing room. Tuchel won't have time to get the team to play his football in time for the world Cup.

You kind of understand the similarities between the current delusion and what happened from 04-10.

He should have lost them after Euros final, not European champions because of his sitting back approach. How I wish we had much tougher routes in last two tournaments.

Southgate should be sacked, but Southgate won't be sacked. The FA love him and they'll use the crap excuse that they shouldn't change coach just before the World Cup except we'll be waiting 4 years for the next one and for the likes of Kane (a genuine top drawer number 9) that will be too late.

I don't know how many times I have to read this crap about being in a WC semi and a Euros final. In both tournaments with the exception of Belgium (who beat us twice) we played the international versions of pub teams and still couldn't get the job done.

He should never have been given the job as he's a poor coach but then this is England and this is the FA. Another decent generation of players will be wasted on another crap coach.
Yeah many of us sensible not misty eyed tournament fans are sick of reading the crap about WC semi and Euros final too

Spain win the World Cup with a midfield of Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets. Brazil win it with a front three of Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo

But appaently Southgate 'should' be winning the World Cup with this 'golden generation'.

This England team is so far away from being a team that is expected to win the World Cup. No Non-Englishman expects this England team to win the World Cup. Infact, if England were to win it, it would be a massive surprise

Tell ya what I didnt think of Tuchel but Jesus he be perfect right now. Done it with Chelsea cup specialist, and knows the system Southgate trying to play million times better than what southgate thinks he is going, and instant boost to the team a proven winner coming in.

The English if they had sense would bin him off, be another wasted 4 years and the media talking about what they need to do and celebrating runs in tournaments while being toothless when met with anyone decent.

If English football really is a powerhouse, how can you possibly have a non Enlishmen managing the national team? Would Germany ever appoint an Englishman?

Come on it's only a powerhouse due to two managers which is Klopp & Guardiola, yes your man has potential as does our Erik too.

Wow I'm Irish, I'm enjoying them tanking before the world cup

But on your point, not the first time they employed someone who is not English for the role.

I'm Not saying he's isn't the ticket but at the moment he's a elite or close to elite coach who is about, who knows the premier League and defo know the players from his Chelsea days, or either managing or seeing the players.

Seems like a no brainer to be honest.

Going with southgate is madness and wasted 4 years at least, but please I hope they continue doing it

Do you follow a national team? If you’re team had a squad equivalent to the England national side, would you not be frustrated with the quality of football being produced with said players? He is definitely underperforming with the tools he has at his disposal.
