Ten Hag’s Ajax was an exciting side, is bald like Pep, was said to be a great coach for the players and was therefore the Caf’s hipster choice. Look how that has turn out now?
Statement signings like Alexis Sanchez, Paul Pogba and Jadon Sancho were exciting choices and the hipster choice. Look how that turned out. So we should try signing unpopular option Mason Mount instead, that'll work..

What I'm saying is, you know what you're going to get with Southgate. If you think it could end well, then I really wish I had your optimism and naivety.

As for Ten Hag, myself nor anybody I take seriously on their United opinions ever said it was an inevitable success. Just that he was the best choice at the time, which he probably was. Tuchel is probably the best most obvious choice now, but I don't think it's guaranteed to work either. And I don't think 90% of the games have been boring at all. We've just been shite.

He’d be universally unpopular and could imagine fans would run on him quicker and to a greater extent than any other manager post SAF.

The honeymoon period for INEOS won’t last very long as it is but appointing Southgate would be a huge gamble and put them under the spotlight to such an extent that I find it hard to believe he is a serious candidate.

I doubt he’d last a season, just like ETH wouldn’t of he was kept on, that’s why they will surely do the sensible thing and not have either of them as manager next season.

I would prefer Heimir Hallgrímsson over Gareth Southgate!

If it is a straight choice between ETH or Southgate, I would take Southgate in a heartbeat, cannot say he would be my first choice or even 5th but I cannot stand another season of ETH

Probably going to get slaughtered for this but I feel he could somewhat work for a year or two to give a reset and make your training ground a happier camp and place to be like he did with England.

The problem however (like with the FA) is will your board be proactive enough to then make the switch when it gets to the point he's ran his course?
Even if he does an Ole, that should not be enough.

I do not mind if we sacrifice the next 1-2 seasons with a good young coach who might not have what it takes but can make the squad progress, develop some good style and then get someone else to push us beyond the line. But getting a mediocre coach would not be that.

Would far prefer Potter or McKenna if we want some British coach. They at least can coach.

If they appoint Southgate and he does well, we all have to eat shiit.

That poll result is devastating.

Ha, yes we do.

I would much rather stick with ETH. At least he has\is trying to change our approach. We can argue this approach is also wrong with our current squad but at least he has tried.

The problem for me is how negative he has been with England and the lack of tactical changes when needed at the big stage. I do however think he will do better than most anticipate and at least sort out the defensive unit.

Personally I think the Southgate links are one massive wind up by the media. Plenty of scousers linking him to us without entertaining the idea of him going to Liverpool at any point.

I think there's just a lot of parties that are desperate for him to get the role. I just don't see why Ineos would go for him instead of Potter.

I’ve put no. If he wins the Euros and has England playing really good football, would that make him a more appealing choice?

The sadist in me wants it, just to once and for-all confirm my beliefs about this fanbase.

That you could literally stick a golden retriever in the managers seat and there would be a back-the-manager campaign to support him.
Mourinho already proved that true with his absolute **** of followers who clearly put him above the club. He was never suitable to this club, yet still got crazy support. Charlton was 100% correct on him!

That is not happening anyway. England will win nothing under him. He is the definition of a perennial loser. He looks like one, he played like one and his teams play like one when it matters most. We can just as well close the club if we hire him, seriously.

I simply refuse to believe or accept that a club of Utd's stature (despite our recent trevails) cannot find a better manager than Southgate.

To be honest, a competent, defensive manager could take this side to top 4 if he doesn't have an injury crisis as it's almost a squad that's designed for a crappy low block and to grind results. That's not really the issue as it's happened with every manager we've had after Moyes. The issue has always been what comes next, which is what every manager has struggled with.

The real mark of progress is getting the team to challenge at the top of the league and be consistent in the champions league. I would just despair if we got Southgate as I sincerely doubt he'd ever manage that, even if he got top 4. He's an awful prospect for the club I think.

Ignoring the fact he's shit, it would be peak dumb move waiting for a manager to complete the Euros - when he won't have time to think about Manchester United - and then him and his staff come to the club in July/August with minimal pre-season.

I have a sneaky suspicion Potter has already agreed behind closed doors, hence him rejecting moves like Ajax. He'll probably be ready to jump in the day after we get battered by City in the final.

If England has some luck at the right moments, i think they can win the Euros with Southgate as a manager. The England squad really is that good.

If it’s Southgate or sticking with Ten Hag, I pick Southgate.

He/we could literally do no worse. Our form is in free fall, it’s relegation form. Minus 4 goal difference at the end of a league campaign.

And the frightening thing is that 8th position is kind to us. Someone posted a table the other day that showed we’ve actually overachieved based on our performances this season, and that we should be around 14th in the table.
Southgate is currently underachieving with a talented squad.

Be madness to replace the overachieving Bald with an underachieving waistcoat

He will still manage to lose in the final, like against Italy. The squad is very good, top 3 in the last 2 tournaments, but it still wont be enough, because he is clueless and too pragmatic for a team that can destroy most teams with ease. They will manage to lose somehow, i can bet on it. He is a coward.

Only if he is given the funds to bring the England team with him. Otherwise its a firm pass.

If hypothetically it was between TH stopping (and we had asked virtually all the other candidates, including Potter and we were turned down), or Southgate, then yes.
Only two outcomes with Southgate, we improve, or we get worse. I really cant see us getting any worse than we are now, so for me Southgate if we really couldnt get anyone else half decent in, rather than another season with TH.

He took an EPL & UEFA cup (EL) runner-up side and in his 3 years as a club manager for the only club he ever "managed" and relegated them forever. Guy is a nonbald fraud.

Let's hope Jim takes his advice from the Caf.

Aside from anything he hasn’t managed in club football for a decade and a half. It would be a crazy appointment.

Gary Neville has good connections with United and England and is repeatedly saying that it’s impossible to happen this summer without sabotaging England and United. So take solace in that.

From a neutral perspective yes it would be funny. But if I were a United fan no way.

We were on about this in the pub watching the Arsenal game yesterday and we all said the same thing. Ajax would have been a good club to reignite your career and win things. So we were all wondering if he has been selected for next season.
