Why didn't he use VAR on that decision?
They did. VAR deemed they didn't have enough to overrule the decision on the pitch. The thing about VAR is that they need to be 100% certain to judge otherwise.

Seemed clear cut to me and I don't know why it was overturned. Yesterday in La Liga I saw the VAR refs make obscene decisions to overturn the referee on the pitch.

The VAR protocol isn't good enough and we've got sub-par refs in the VAR room it seems.

Refs will now defer everything to var.

It’s their get out of jail free card and they will hide behind it as much as they can.

Honestly I’m not sure there will be a point having referees soon. The ones we have are pretty shite.

Honestly, what can be done? Nevermind how shit we are, these incidents, the clear red and the clear pen, are just beyond excusable. He should never get another game. There is too much at stake for referees to be allowed such clear and obvious major mistakes. We can't accept this.

Ole has to come out after the game and crucify him.

I agree, but I meant from their point of view.
A wrong decision is a wrong decision. Being corrected by VAR doesn't change that

If anything, this further shows how bad refs are, given the guy making the calls in the VAR room is also a ref

Twice now that James has been booked for simulation when he's clearly been fouled. Infuriating. Ole really needs to stop the smiley bullshit and go on the offensive.

He has to go hairdryer on the refs to deflect any and all criticism including the missed pen and James "dive"

This ref is so shit. 3 totally incorrect calls all against us. 2 MAJOR decisions. Somehow VAR doesn't correct his obvious mistakes? WTF!?

The umpires in the cricket might be just as shit but their VAR corrects their bad decisions

Heads should roll after this kind of incompetent showing, but he'll be given a game next weekend as if he'd been perfect.

Whats the point in doing well

And now this decision on James. This ref should not be in charge of another game, ever. How blatantly incompetent and unfit for the job can someone be? What a horror show this is.

Refs given up booking palace players now, just constant professional fouls to break up play and nothing...

If you can get booked for having someone kick you in the knee, even with VAR, what's the point?

No, he has to go hairdryer in the press to underline the absolute ineptitude if not downright sabotage (those incidents were completely obvious) by the ref. It needs to happen as this is completely unacceptable.

The way Ayew complained at every decision, would have been yellow carded by most refs.

Doesn't detract from our insipid performance but that was an impressively terrible refereeing performance. VAR won't help referees like that.

Sick and tired of this shite.
We were hopeless but the level of incompetence of referees is just too much.

The FA: 'Our refs are useless, we need to bring in VAR'

The Fans : 'yessss, we might actually get a fair game now'

The FA: 'We shouldn't change decisions unless they are completely black and white objectively wrong'

The Fans: 'Oh FFS'

Not that it matters because we are shite, but 5 minutes was a joke. The amount of time wasted in the 2nd half was way beyond 5 minutes.

Cahill should have had a red. Martial should have had a penalty. McArthur made at least 3 cynical fouls, 2 of which we played advantage, but wasn't pulled back for a booking on either.

And the rule of exiting from the nearest touchline will be enforced whenever the referee feels like it. He didn't feel like it today, yet he made sure did it every time vs Chelsea. Pointless rule.

One of the worst refereeing performances I’ve seen in a while, I feel that refs use Old Trafford as a stage to show they can handle pressure and end up making shocking decisions as a result. That booking for James was an insult.

The problem is Video Assistant Referees.

In our case, that last one draws from the same pool of absolute incompetent morons that have been getting the obvious decisions wrong all this time. If they hadn't been so spectacularly shite during that time, the appeal of VAR might not have been so big to begin with. But the way it's been implemented is incredible. The 'clear and obvious' strategy is astoundingly moronic as it basically just moves the subjective nonsense elsewhere.

Even ignoring our own game and removing my bias, have a look at some of the decisions in the Norwich vs Chelsea game. It beggars belief. A guy kicked someone else in the knee in the area and some hotshot ex-ref is inexplicably trying to defend it on TV, that's what you're up against.

The Martial penalty shouldn't even need VAR and the James yellow should be overturned in an instant via VAR. But at least they made extra sure that Pogba shouldn't have been sent off for an absolute none-incident in the middle of the park.

What a surprise, give them black or white and they dont have a choice to protect their clan members, slide it bit on subjective and they will do everything possible to not shed a light on mistakes of their buddies in organization. After all, they have to see each other every day where ever those motherfeckers gather.

Imagine if you correct every mistake Atkinson makes during a season, he would look like a fool and we cant have that. System of VAR in hands of those incompetent morons in PL was easiest prediction ever.
