I tend not to accept anything after the first 2 as terminator films
The first two had touches of horror to them, something that these new ones and most remakes of 80s/90s action movies seem to miss out entirely. Jurassic Park is another but I digress.

Yeah, is it the 3rd one where there are many ironic/funny refererences to the first 2 films? Just ruins it as a serious film

Yeah, the Elton John sunglasses and so forth. I'm all for campness in movies but it was, like you said, just referencing the previous films too much and adding a "twist".

Looking back though I'd take the 3rd one over any of the ones that came after. Even though it lacked any of the dark grittiness of the first two.

Not a single mention of john connor ? The entire franchise has been side tracked.

If you believe the reports then he is supposedly dead. The young girl is the “new” hero of the future.

Is that girl a young sarah connor ?
No mate. The rumours are that John is dead and rather than humanity being doomed, a new hero will lead the resistance and take the machines down in the future. The hero is the little girl.

I’ll be pissed off if it turns out John Connor is dead.

Because he's not a woman. He must die. Every movie out these days is either All men must die or F white people .
John Connor is actual in the movie. Edward Furlong the actor who played John in T2 was part of reshoots.

I've never wanted a franchise to die as much. Terminator is one of my favourite films of all time. T2 is a really good film, ever since it's been a long slow money grabbing death. It's really so easy to do the final entry properly. They keep trying to add two the story and shoe horning Arnie in. This time it's trying to add credibility with Linda Hamilton. It's just so sad that they are pumping bad films out. The special effects in T2 from 1991 looks better than the recent entries, big joke.

Jesus that sounds fecking awful. I knew it was going to be shit, but feck me that sounds like the kind of turd that burns your arse on the way out.

I thought 2 was slightly better than the first, but it's a very fine line. They are two of the greatest sci fi films ever made.
These movies have gotten worse with each new installment

yes the part where his face regenerates at the end of this trailer looks dreadful. 1991 still looks way better and absorbing

I want this to succeed but I feel they've tried to catch peoples interest by saying a look everyone Cameron back kind of.

I don't know why the hell they brought Arnie back. Other than fear of a box-office backlash. This is clearly a Terminator entry built around the new female cyborg (looks transgender) and Sarah Connor.

Time to fecking decide if The Terminator is about the war vs the machines or an Arnie vehicle.

That looks way better than the other post-T2 ones, albeit thst's obviously a low bar.

They've blatantly ripped off the 28 Days Later music though.

More important than the trailer is that James Cameron is back and the director is more proven at entertaining action sequences. This should be a decent watch I hope.

I think that's probably the best policy. If they keep having Judgement Day anyway and keep sending machines back then it renders the events of the first two films more and more meaningless. Instead of a fight to save humanity they become a fight to save humanity this way, but it's still fecked that way.

Can't wait to never, ever, ever see this trash.

There is terminator and terminator 2. It stops after that.

That's what the producers/writers after T2 never fecking understood (Cameron and Linda Hamilton did, though). The story ends with T2. Period. No matter how many retcons they try to insert, Skynet was killed in 1991 (present time). The source of Skynet was destroyed in T2, that's why the story set in the present (terminators sent back in time to kill the Connors) should stop after that. I'm amazed Linda Hamilton agreed to do T6.

Better do a futuristic movie about the actual war. Wait, they did, and fecked up big time (Salvation).

Read this brilliant comment:

Terminator 2 = liquid metal
Terminator Dark Fate = gender fluid

Apple villain isn't really a valid criticism though. First Terminator had to be big like Arnie because of the size of the machine. New ones are liquid metal so can be smaller and Apple bloke is what men look like these days. He looks like an angry chino and polo shirt incel who was at Charlottesville with his tiki torch.

Saw this yesterday. Its a mixed bag to say the least.

The Good:
  • Amazing prologue, the ease with which John Connor is killed and then the terminator just walks away like its nothing. Not sure if this was deep fake CGI or if this was older footage re-purposed but it didn't look as fake as some of the CGI later in the film.
  • Was great to see Linda Hamilton kicking ass. Still a badass after all these years. T1 & T2 were all about her story arc from damsel in distress to killing machine. It was good to get some closure on her story. A deleted T2 scene had her living a happy life as a grandma which kind of ignored the fact that she was an escaped mental patient who had blown a lot of shit up. Dark Fate has her as a fugitive which at least makes more sense in the context of whats gone before.
  • Mackenzie Davis was better than expected. There's no trans-gender undertones to trigger the snowflakes, she's just an enhanced female soldier. She can go toe to toe with a temrinator but they also have limits to her enhancements which stop her from being completely unstoppable.
  • Similarly Reyes as the new John Connor got a lot of crap based solely off a trailer but she was fine. I didn't really buy into future her but public reaction had set the bar pretty low for her character so i was pleasantly surprised.
  • Skynet is also no longer the big bad either. Basically that future is avoided but a different machine threat pops up. It makes a lot more sense but I liked how terminators had still been popping up (unseen in the movie) throughout time to keep trying to kill John even though he was dead. Because of course that it is what the machines would do.

The Bad:
  • While I liked seeing Arnie as a Terminator again, having him play it for laughs again as Carl the Drapery specialist and loving surrogate father was strange to say the least. Generally the movie had avoided the jokey nature of T3 up until that point. It had set its stall out with the John Connor's early death and Dani's brother being killed in the car chase. So to suddenly switch into this humour mode was a bit unnecessary. I suppose the explanation is that even in a short space of time John had taught Arnie to smile and throw out some catchphrases so in 22 years and with no directive he might well develop in different ways but this just screwed with the tone. Also there was no way his wife would have failed to notice he was a terminator, even if their relationship was non physical.
  • The thought process for the villain was obviously, T1 had a terminator, T2 had a liquid terminator, what if we combined them into a single overpowered bad guy. The problem is it forgot that what made the villains so memorable was the actors playing them. Gabriel Luna doesn't have the robotic terror of Arnie's T800 or the ice cold menace of Robert Patrick's T1000 and therefore becomes more of a narrative device than a memorable character.
  • Some of the plot made no sense (even in its own weird world rules). In present day they see Grace playing in the playground which means the rise of the robots is imminent (Grace is found by Dani as a young girl, not much older than the playground scene). The fall is sudden and unexpected yet the resistance are able to build flying ships and heavy artillery that is not currently available (despite the machines making all electronic equipment redundant). Dani also has to go from unassuming factory worker to resistance leader in the space of a few years despite showing no real aptitude for leading or fighting.
The film acts as a closing chapter for the Arnie and John Connor saga but leaves the door open for a whole new arc (which I sincerely hope it doesn't follow). Its watchable and definitely better than everything since T2 but is still way off being classic. Fine way to pass time and at least closes out the story in a better way than previous efforts

Terminator: Dark fate

Went to watch it because some posters here thought it was good but I'm sorry its garbage. Its just Rise of the Machines, Salvation and Genisys in a different place and characters. The series is completely overdone and dead.

It had everything:

Typical big vehicle chasing small vehicle scene

Fighting the same overpowered liquid metal robot

Shotgun blasting the robot and making it stagger backwards scene which we have seen a million times

Same one-liners over and over again

Overpowered robot foot chase

Ridiculous save humanity plot once again.

All these are off the top of my head. I'm sure there more. Just fustrating.

5/10 for Arnie and Linda Hamilton.
