I am almost positive this refers to the pulling of the graphic novel of the Diary, not the actual book itself. I think there might be a depiction of homosexuality or something. Still, it's an absurd decision but not at all surprising.

I hate always being the one to shit on these tweets, but I had "my side" sensationalizing something that is already outrageous enough. It loses credibility when it is done and is pointless.

fecking hell...

The weird thing about DeSanctis and Florida is that Florida is not even a bright red state. He barely won his governors race and Florida is usually a tossup state. I am shocked that places like SD, Iowa, etc. have not followed suit. Is it because FL's state constitution allows the Gov to essentially be a dictator?

That has a lot to do with it along with the uber-right leaning state house & senate.

Really horrible to even imply that being LGBTQ+ is the same as having a medical condition or a developmental disability. About those so-called mothers, I spit in their faces and shit in their mouths repeatedly.

Considering you’re Québécois, I just want you to know I read that last line in John Cleese’s Monty Python French accent.

The telling thing about that interview is right at the end.

"There's a way to go about it so that everybody is respected" sure sounded a lot like "other people are having the spotlight on them and I want it even though I've had it for aeons"

I thought that the people taking care of our elderly in Quebec are the worst, but this fatal incident in California takes the cake when it comes to pathetic.

I'm having a hard time understanding why people even want to become teachers in the US, it seems like such a miserable struggle.
This is my wife's last year as a teacher (has taught for over 20 years in 4th and 5th grade and has had enough). She is only 50 and we are fortunate that we can sell our house and move to a smaller place to make up for her lack of income. She still loves the kids but can't deal with all the other stuff. We are in a liberal state so I could not imagine being anywhere in the South where the nonsense is 10 time worse.

Edit: I will add that I think some of this is strategic. Many republicans would love for the public school system to fail and have the churches take over educating kids.

There is no place for a teacher with a liberal political agenda in the classroom. Ms Bolsmier's providing access to banned and pornograpic material to students is unacceptable and we must ensure she doesn't go to another district and do the same thing

Aren't there any strong unions to curb some of this bullshit? Although "only" ~50% of Norwegian workers are members of a union (lower than other Nordic countries), nearly all public teachers are. Most are also members of the same union (which is part of a larger umbrella organization that covers police, nurses and some minor professions, who will strike together if it's necessary). Right now the three biggest teachers unions are actually striking together, though strikes usually start slow and ramp up, so most teachers aren't striking right now.

If half the teachers in Oklahoma threatened to go on strike, I'm sure they'd have some leverage.

Bless her. I’m counting down the years till I reach “feck it” stage myself.

By law, teachers in South Carolina cannot collectively bargain.

Yep. And all of our contracts are for 1 year only.
When I taught on CA (admittedly a private catholic HS), all contracts were for one year only. It made it easy for them to dismiss teachers who didn’t conform to “catholic values”, so the teacher of the year winner, who was found to be gay, did not have his contact renewed while the pervert teacher who had multiple female student complaints (and was eventually arrested for soliciting a 13 yo) had his contract renewed every year.
