Very odd. He's got Beckham and Neville and chooses not to take advantage of that partnership. Ronaldo on the left means a very attack-minded left back to utilize the space he leaves. Irwin is a solid full back but he's more the Neville type. I knew this would happen as he couldn't resist going after Ronaldo but honestly he could have built a better team without one of the best players in the world.

Not that it matters though, other teams are riddled with sheep and his isn't so this should be a walk in the park for him.
Well a lot of teams looks unbalanced on paper IMO, due to mainly some of the strict and tight pools we had in some rounds so people were forced to go for players not suiting their formation. We also had to tinker some of the initial ideas we had when it comes to formation, due to the restricted pool for some of the picks. Cal has a very good team indeed with a lot of stand out players, question is how he will set them up. Of course he has no sheep so far so he can get a pretty good sub to tinker with formations...

MJJ, Stobzilla, Chesterlestreet and Pat/Skizzo teams I think looks to have the best balance so far, IMO.

The penalty round forced us to shuffle a bit in terms of tactics, at least for the first round, although we're happy with our front 4 and how they'll link up.

Should be some pretty interesting games coming up. The draw could help some teams, or screw then completely

Very difficult to get that with the rest of his players. Best bet is to get another b2b and bench Becks.
Becks>>>Reus. Besides with Ronaldo on one flank, you'd prefer a Beckham like figure on the other with his graft, tactical nous and dependable stream of service. Reus would work too but Beckham would be a better tactical fit imo, and is also the better individual to boot.

Valid point. Still a b2b should be his priority. Becks as CM ain't gonna work.

Agree with a lot of what you're saying but Iriwn was far better going forward than Neville. This gets said a lot because he didn't charge headlessly forward every minute of every game but he was a very effective attacking outlet for United. He made intelligent runs and effective contributions and I think would work excellently with Ronaldo and Zidane here.

He was as least as good in attack as Evra was and Paddy worked well with the Ronaldo/Rooney/Tevez trio.

Irwin was also adept at both feet which automatically makes him better going forward than Neville. The Ronaldo that played with Evra is not the Ronaldo we're looking at in this draft. That Ronaldo likes a Marcelo a lot more and Marcelo is a full back that also plays as a winger. Real has played that way down the left for 20 years now, barely ever had a left winger.

This is nuts, Becks at CM so Reus can start? You don't have any sheep yet right? So your supposed to be able to get a sub.. get a GK and another CM and bench Reus obviously
Probably if I get no sheep at all...

ROUND ELEVEN: EUROPEAN CUP WINNERS' CUP

In this round we pay tribute to the now defunct European Cup Winners' Cup. The instructions for this round are as follows:
  1. Choose a European Cup Winners Cup Final.
  2. Choose a player from the winning side and a player from the losing side.
  3. Submit both players, plus a link to the final in question, to me and the committee.
In this round a player must have been on the pitch during the final and/or a replay of the final.

If both of your picks are blocked, you are free to choose another final. If one of your picks is blocked, you are locked to that final and must choose from the remaining available players.

You have 24 hours.

If this is the final round, the ones who still need a goalkeeper better not block each other in the first attempt :D.

What is the rule on goalkeepers for this round. Do we get to pick another game in case of a block? Do we have to block the second keeper and have a free third choice? Do we have to not submit a pick and receive a sheep keeper?

The ruling here doesn't make sense. Take the following example...

If you have to pick a keeper still and the 'other' player you pick gets passed but your keeper is blocked, then you are stuck to that particular team with no other keeper to pick from?! How does that work?

It's also a big problem for other positions. Say, one manager needs a left back and a goalkeeper, another needs a left back and a striker, and they choose the same match. Keeper and striker pass, they block each other on the left back. They'll then block each other on the second left back in round two, and then be forced to pick someone out of position in round three or pull a Snow and not submit and receive a sheep left back. @Gio

Locking managers into the match is fair enough in an earlier round imo, but now there are specific positions to fill, leaving you with no options at all.

With 40 years of goalkeepers to choose from, it's a really friendly round as long as your pick isn't blocked. Any outfielder you want, and just pick the other team's keeper.

Not that much as some teams have played in 2 consecutive finals or for other teams and surely that limits the pool even further.

For example if you pick a keeper in one year and gets blocked from another year as the same keeper made an appearance in another final you both have to pick from the same losing/winning side 2 players otherwise you won't have a keeper...

Not to mention if 3 managers go for the same match for same sides GK and block him(but receive a pass on the other player), they'll be forced to choose someone who is not a keeper, otherwise they won't make the criteria...

This seems to have been devised to achieve as many sheep keepers as possible. Glad we've got ours.

Well, the sheep keepers (sheepers?) should be quite competent given the criterion.

I'm more worried about not getting the outfield player I need to complete the XI.

There are some really, really crap one. Oh well then we'd just have to go for a better winger to compensate

Pick submitted.

The lock is a big nuisance in these last stages!
aye - the one club man, this one and the other 2 player round would made much more sense to be in the opening rounds. Either of those pools is kinda limited anyway.

But again it depends what the focus of the draft is, as now we have plenty of sheep and most likely unbalanced teams which will make pretty interesting first rounds(also not that many all time greats at every position).

To be fair I'm happy so far with the draft, as in the end(hopefully) it will be a good team with 2-3 names that need immediate upgrade.. But it's kinda real as well and will be pretty interesting how the teams will line up.
