Schweinsteiger is a short term solution that hinders youth development and needs to be replaced again in 1-3 years depending on his fitness. If hes cheap its fine, but if not...

If he signs and is part of a title winning team within 2-3 years I'm sure people won't care if he has to be replaced in a few years.

Can't see it hinging youth development. There's really only two midfield players in the U21's who are looking to step up -

.Pearson(Who could still go on loan again next season but if not he's still very young)

.Pereira(Next season will be first season as a member of the squad)

Schweinstegier could be a really great option and plus you never know the experience the whole team could get from him.

Who do we realistically have in the youth teams that can play in his role in the next 1-2 years?

Strange how people want us to compete for every title next season while avoiding short term solutions and focussing on younger players

I will admit that he was very good for one season at Toulouse but he didn't confirmed that level.
He hasn't really made that many appearances for PSG yet so that remains to be seen but I agree he hasn't lived up to his potential.

How could you? He can't even displace Marquinhos and Van der Wiel.
He was out for a couple of months with injury and away for ACoN too but he's played 90 mins in each of the last three matches including a cup final and has picked up four assists in those games too so seems to not be doing too badly now despite a bad start

Some will want us to do it with nothing but home grown players, others with nothing but "World Class" players and others with an entire new team. That's the way it is now unfortunately, people will always moan.

Yeah, you are right but I still think that Van der Wiel is slightly better, if he wasn't susceptible with injuries.

Its the right mix that brings the titles. RVP could have been regarded as a short time solution but he brought us the title or had a major role in it.

Juventus are doing well with Pirlo as a 'short time solution' for instance.

Yeah, some people underrate experience, it's crucial for the young players and for the entire organization.

3,000,000euro per year seems way too low! That comes to around 60,000euro per week.

Even if it's after tax, it's still only around 110-120euro, gross, per week. (assuming a French tax rate of 40-50%).

Surely he'd easily get 150,000 pounds a week, minumum, in the EPL? Especially if it's a free signing.
Would bonuses and incentives be a way for PSG to cheat FFP rules, so initial wage is low and then incidental bonusses for appearances etc would bulk it up

It's not reassuring if we are after Schweinsteiger. Our midfield needs are obvious; we've had all season to scout a solution; the world is full of good, youngish midfielders who could provide a permanent fix, and instead we pursue an aging 'legend' who, surprise, surprise, once played for Van Gaal. We should count our blessings, I suppose - at least he's not Dutch.

PSG love these Brazilian defenders, don't they? Marquinhos, Thiago Silva, Maxwell, David Luiz and now Dani Alves. Chelsea's former player Alex was also there a couple of seasons ago.

If Schweinsteiger is the only midfielder we buy then agreed it would be worrying but if he is brought in to bolster the numbers then great. Never want to see us in a situation where Rooney is played in midfield again.

We bought 2 dutch players. One has been a good buy and we're waiting for the other to see if he'll come good. Its not as if bunch of them are coming and if some player played for LVG that's just a bonus cause LVG knows him. If we buy Schweinsteiger for lets say 10 m that doesnt mean we wont buy one more youngish CM.

We're up against Real Madrid and Barcelona, who cast their nets wide and land the best players in the game. We can't compete by confining our recruitment to the tiny subset of world footballers who once played for Louis Van Gaal.

We need a good team. Good team its not always full of the best players in the game.

Bayern Munich are one of the biggest teams in the world and they bough Alonso last summer because Pep wanted a midfielder of that kind, now that has worked out pretty well for Bayern. There were so many games this season when we had a lack of options in midfield and the injury to Carrick has probably ended up costing us a top 3 finish
