Smalling has a far far better season 2019/20. I’ve thus far failed to see the hype with Skriniar, doesn’t really excel at anything. Decent enough defender in the right set up for him, not what Ole would be looking for in my opinion.

Alternatively when the team around him was shit and he was surrounded by poor players (and had a bad manager who basically declared war on him for most of that time), he wanted out. Now that the team appears to finally be getting it's shit together and we have other good players he can play with, he's much happier.
The reality is it's probably a bit of both. He's now feeling happier here and can see a future of success at the club, AND he knows it'd basically be impossible to move this season even if he wanted to.
