He certainly stood out as such in multiple matches at the highest level.Best player in the World currently?
Especially with Messi and Ronaldo are behind their peaks
Would love that, he’s just so good and seems such a good eggHe certainly stood out as such in multiple matches at the highest level.
If he gets a hype train going and wins the Euro's, then he should secure the Balon d'Or.
He also was MOTM for both semi finals games. How often did that happen??He was one of the most important players in Leicester winning the PL. Key cog in France winning the World Cup. Right now he’s putting in a MOTM performance in a CL final. I’d say there’s a solid chance he will be remembered as one of the finest defensive minded midfielders of his generation.
Just remembered this. He's had life time performances on the biggest stage. Hard to look past that in my opinionHe also was MOTM for both semi finals games. How often did that happen??
This is so trueThe funny thing is the next big game he doesn't turn up the usual suspects will be bumping this thread saying he's overrated. There's an irrational dislike of Kante from a section of the caf and its quite frankly laughable.
One of the best CMs I've ever seen.
The same suspects who tried to convince us that Fred is at least as good as Kanté a couple of weeks ago?The funny thing is the next big game he doesn't turn up the usual suspects will be bumping this thread saying he's overrated. Out of the Frenchies, only Henry?CL, EL, PL and WC. Would be insane if he adds the Euros this summer — has anyone ever done that?
Did Henry play a prominent role in '98?Out of the Frenchies, only Henry?
Vieira, Pires and Petit never won the CL
Barthez never won the EL
Desailly never won the PL, and EL

Ah you are right, he played in a final but lost.Henry never won the EL
Pedro?CL, EL, PL and WC. Would be insane if he adds the Euros this summer — has anyone ever done that?
Pedro won it all in club football scoring in every final ?Pedro?
I think so.Is he already better than Makelele?
I don't get why that happens, dude is most likeable player ever. I guess that it must be envy that he doesn't play for United. The funny thing is the next big game he doesn't turn up the usual suspects will be bumping this thread saying he's overrated. They don't play the same position. Kante has in fact been back to his best because Tuchel has moved him away from the base of midfield:Hes made the Makelele position his own, should be called the Kante position now
Won every title domestically
Fa Cup
2 Leagues
Europa League
Champions League
Not to mention...The World Cup (even though thats not a domestic title)
I think so, and I never thought I'd be saying that about anyone. Is he already better than Makelele?
Either way hes probably the only player over the last few seasons id want in my team irrespective of fees wages etcThey don't play the same position. Kante has in fact been back to his best because Tuchel has moved him away from the base of midfield:
https://theathletic.com/2614828/202...storing-him-role-starred-under-ranieri-conte/
TL;DR - Kante has been restricted since Tuchel came in to the right side but has been given far more license to move vertically, whereas under Lampard he sat more at the base of midfield and had to cover side-to-side. Kante has always been at his best when he can press high and harry the opposition - Tuchel has correctly identified this, as did Ranieri for Leicester, Conte for Chelsea in 16/17, and Deschamps for France when he moved Matuidi to left wing in order to play Kante in a 2 man midfield.
Can confirm - he's very possibly the most likeable footballer of all time? Genuinely not trying to be OTT but struggling to think of another player with an approval rating that even approaches his, especially among rival supporters.Either way hes probably the only player over the last few seasons id want in my team irrespective of fees wages etc
Very jealous of Chelsea having him
Neither are the Europa League or the Champions LeagueHes made the Makelele position his own, should be called the Kante position now

He comes across as such a likeable guy, very humble. The kind of player youd love if he played for your club. Can confirm - he's very possibly the most likeable footballer of all time? No way, best CDM without a doubt but Messi, Lewandowski, Kane and several others are above him.Best player in the World currently?
Especially with Messi and Ronaldo are behind their peaks
Couldn't believe it at the time, he was the player of the year with leicester and Chelsea managed to buy him for 30 and sell us Matic for 40M unbelievable stuff. We are truly managed by incompetents. It's really insane for me how Kante costed Chelsea only 30m back in 2016.
One of the best signings in football in last 10 years easily.
I wonder how many actually read the thread carefully. In my OP I have clearly stated that Kante is pretty useful in a specific setting (2-man midfield) against specific opponents (teams with more possession). The question here is, whether a player with such limitations could be rated as world class, some even call him the best player in the world. He seems to become WC when the system involves inviting other teams on and not having possession all the time. He does better with Tuchel and Conte then he did with Lamps and Sarri.

Comfortably for me. Different type of midfielder but even more influential. Is he already better than Makelele?
Big games are what makes people's opinion change. And you know what, i believe Football it's about winning big games, especially when playing for a big team like Chelsea, period.I wonder how many actually read the thread carefully. Unfortunately, people only watch big games and they know nothing about how he struggles against smaller opponents or in a different system. I find it funny people occassionally bump this thread when Kante shines in a big game, it just reminds me how terrible he is in most of the games for the rest of the season.
