Willis probably should have proceeded perhaps a bit quicker in GA. Hopefully the commission isn’t filled with MAGA Repubs…

George Santos in custody on 13 federal charges

Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) is in custody Wednesday after being indicted on 13 federal charges over accusations that he misled donors and misrepresented his finances to the public and government agencies.

The charges comprise seven counts of wire fraud, three counts of money laundering, one count of theft of public funds and two counts of making materially false statements to the House of Representatives.
He is in custody at the federal courthouse on Long Island, according to a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York. Santos will be arraigned around 1 p.m.

What to know about Santos' indictment (NBC News)

1) Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., is facing 13 counts, including wire fraud, money laundering, theft of public funds and making materially false statements to the House of Representatives. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.

2) Santos held a news conference after he was released on bond. He said he will be in the House tomorrow for votes.

3) According to Breon Peace, the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York, Santos "used political contributions to line his pockets, unlawfully applied for unemployment benefits that should have gone to New Yorkers who had lost their jobs due to the pandemic, and lied to the House of Representatives."

4) Several Republicans have called for Santos' resignation, but Speaker Kevin McCarthy has said that he will reserve judgment until the congressman has his day in court.
