We are stilll preparing that Bid...Phelan has been despatched to Scotland.

http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/articles/4...-manchester-united-arsenal-psv-eindhoven.htm?

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is set to make an £8million transfer deadline day swoop for Celtic's highly-rated midfielder Victor Wanyama.

Both Manchester United and Arsenal have scouted the Kenyan on several occasions this season and have become increasingly impressed with the midfielder, culminating in Wanyama's starring role in Celtic's 2-1 victory over Barcelona.

Celtic are likely to reject the offer due to the player's importance as the Bhoys prepare for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

However, Kenyan FA president, Sam Nyamweya, suggested that the young midfielder would be quitting Celtic in order to join a football powerhouse, before Kenya's international friendly match against Libya.

"Wanyama will soon be joining one of the big two clubs in the world. It is an exciting moment for us, which means that Kenya is a powerhouse in football," said Nyamweya, as quoted in the Scotsman.

According to ESPN, Sir Alex Ferguson watched Wanyama during Celtic's 4-0 win at home to Dundee United last week, refuelling the speculation.

Wanyama could nonetheless be merely a second choice for Manchester United, who are reportedly more interested in signing PSV Eindhoven midfielder Kevin Strootman.

The highly-rated Dutch international has emerged as one of the greatest talents in Europe and has been scouted by both Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United representatives as early in December, according to the Mail.

Hailed as "the next Mark van Bommel," Strootman is valued at around £17m by PSV, a significantly higher price than what Wanyama potentially could be leaving for.

Do our players know about the players we are going to sign before things are released officialy?
I don't know the dudes story but he has been right about everything even weeks before the media have picked up on it.

I'm as dubious as anyone about people on the Internet but he's posted a few pics of himself with United players etc, so he probably has some kind of inside knowledge.

I'd just be happy to know that Central mids are on top of the agenda for us tbh.
You seem to have completely missed the "weakness an advantage" thread.

The economic and American civil war comparisons are broadening. Give it a shot.

Should we sign em both - Strootman & Wanyama ?
I hope we can. Wouldn't mind them both here to be honest. Then our midfield might be set for the next 5-6 years with Anderson, Cleverely,Wanyama, Strootman and Carrick in his last years.

Victor Wanyama is leaving the door open for a summer exit from Celtic, but insists he will not be moving on deadline day.

Speculation regarding Wanyama's future has built steadily throughout the winter window, with Manchester United among those said to be closely monitoring his situation.

The highly-rated 21-year-old is paying little attention to the rumours, though, with it his intention to see out the season at Parkhead - allowing him to form part of Celtic's squad for the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League.

"I can confirm to you that I will be at Celtic," Wanyama told the Daily Record.

"We are playing well and our Champions League dream is on right now, so I am looking forward to the big game against Juventus.

"A lot has been said about my intended move but I have not given it much thought and even my manager feels I should play until the end of the season for Celtic.

"Then, from that point, the doors can be open for a move."

Reopen thread in the summer.

Not that I'm discontent with our current squad or anything, but it would have be nice with some extra iron in midfield now that Fletcher is out. Also, let's not forget that Scholes is ready to retire, or that Giggs and Anderson only counts as one player, seeing as the former was born during WWII and the latter is injured half the season.

We have only have two CM's, really. The others are just back-ups or lucky shots. Rooney, Kagawa, Jones or Rafael have no business in a CM two(in my opinion).

I like him a lot.
feck you stealing my thunder, mate!

I was just about to bump this thread. I am a huge admirer of Wanyama's (I recall Pink Moon and myself discussing him quite a bit in the newbies) and think he's destined for the very top. He has it all you could want in a defensive midfielder; combative, mobile, hugely imposing, very strong in the air, and his passing and ball control is improving all the time.

I severely doubt we could do worse than sign this lad, especially considering he excels in an area where we are undoubtedly weak of in recent years. My only fear is that we won't be his own potential suitors when he leaves Celtic this summer and the interest will drive his price well up.

He's definitely worth a punt at ~£12 million, though.

Looks a little bit slow off the mark at times. But there's defiantly something about him. And he's pretty much exactly what our midfield needs.

 Apologies.

Didn't realise until now how classy his football is. When it looks like he's about to get tackled, he just nonchalantly strokes it to a teammate.

Lost the ball as I type, and instantly won it back.

You doubt we could do worse? That's not much of a recommendation.

Looks very limited to me.
Why the love-in?
Passes like a league 1 player.
Cant saying I've watched him before tonight, but his passing tonight is far from 'league 1'. He's not Paul Scholes, but he can clearly pass the ball.

His passing is better than I expected. Looks calm in possession and has done pretty well against a strong Juve midfield.

Hasn't looked out of his depth against Marchisio and Pirlo.
Passing like a league one player? Right, OK.

SAF was watching him but it's really hard to say, what he's thinking about the player.

He's clearly a leading strength of Celtic... can he be at like that at United ?

He has alot of potential. His game is not about fantastic range of passing or dictating the tempo, he is however very good at reading the game defensively and importantly he is comfortable on the ball in terms of ability to manipulate the ball in tight spaces and has alot of strength on it. If you put pressure on him, he can shield the ball well and keep the game moving forward with a dribble rather than have to pass back.

His passing however hasn't been great in this particular game but you can see the potential he has - sloppy more than anything rather than a lack of intelligence.

Sometimes people seem to see what they want to see.
If he played for us, he'd get slaughtered on the Caf.
Load of nonsense.

I was expecting him to be quite poor on the ball, going from what some have said on here. But I've been pleasantly surprised. Keeps it nice and simple, but also seems quite able to play the occasional more adventurous pass.

Wanyama has only given the ball away 2 times in the game so far from what i can recall and one where he was tackled and the ref somehow gave the freekick the other way.
Has looked comfortable in possession otherwise to me atleast. And made more long passes then i expect of him. Atleast 2 good quality ones.

Well, I've not seen much of him but if this is it... No chance. I'd like a quality midfielder who can pass and is comfortable on the ball.
I think we've some nice passers. We need a tough bastard sometimes to shore up and releasing Carrick from his defensive duties. He's unlike our any other midfield option.

He's also very young. So loads to develop.

Looks decent but not sure we should sign him as a priority.

Not convinced entirely tbh.

Your hard to please he would improve our midfield options no doubt, would rather have him than Tiote younger and cheaper.

I'm not sure we need a 'tough bastard', we just need a quality midfielder. People harp on about the likes of Roy Keane being exactly that, as if that's all they were, when the truth is he and players cut from the same cloth were brilliant all round midfielders. Fellaini is another we ought not to be looking at.
