What players would Mourinho target?

I bet he'd have loved Welbeck. Relentless runner, good technical ability, good ball winner, decent link up, still young and learning.

Shame he's been struck down by the Arsenal syndrome. RIP Welbz.

Stones is nailed on. And possibly anyone left who liked him at Madrid. The Academy will just be closed down until his third season departure.

The way City's defence is playing tonight and if Pep does go there. I would not be so sure Stones is nailed on. Also City will pay ridiculously silly money to get who they want. There might be a limit we would go to for him.

He'll be happy Chelsea didn't get Martial if he comes to us, they were gutted he came to us by all accounts.

I think we'll go for Willian for some reason, only player who seemed to give a damn about him this season.

He'd have to sort us out with a token Mourinho cnut like Costa or Pepe. Maybe he'd bring the fiery side of Rooney back.

Technical workhorse winger, Center back, tricky winger/#10 and Woodward/Jorge Mendes's Muppet Signing of the year.

Yarmolenko
Stones
Rúben Neves:
If Mourinho plays his cards right and uses his Porto/Portuguese connections (Long term Carrick replacement)
Bernardo Silva: Likewise
Zlatan, Griezmann, Ronaldo (Tbf Bernardo and Rúben are both his clients but think we'll get a bigger name to accompany)
Think he'll love the likes of Young, Valencia, Schneiderlin, Smalling, I back him to get the best out of Darmian and Shaw could be reminiscent to what Ashley Cole was for him.

--------------------------------De Gea----------------------------------
Darmian-------------Smalling---------Stones-------------------Shaw
-----------------------------Schneiderlin--------------------------------
-----------------------Herrera----------Rúben--------------------------
Yarmolenko-----------------Martial-------------------------Bernardo

FWIW, I trust Mourinho in the transfer market.
there's no wya he'll sign those young players. He will be far more likely to go for the quick fix, 28 year old players at the top of their game, extremely hard working players on both wings that can hit on the break and be incisive. We'll probably see less of martial depay blind wilson periera lingard etc and sign a big physical striker and new wingers. Hopefully he could build a very solid 3 in the middle but we might need to sign a 10 since mata isn't defensive enough for mourinho. Stones looks fairly likely a the back alright

Guys. It was Jose who was chasing Rooney down 2 seasons ago...think about that. He wont have to anymore if he joins us.

Its a horrible situation.

Be honest. You're privately dreading Mourinho taking over and getting the Utd supertanker on course for the port of Big Trophy Silverware.
(How RAWKish is that?)

@Chaky_Best's team would be good enough to win the league next season I reckon. One big positive with Mourinho is that because of his pragmaticism, his teams do not lose games when they gain a bit of momentum and build up a big lead by the mid-season point, in contrast with say Fergie whose teams traditionally picked up steam after Christmas. Remember when Chelsea would build up a 10+ point gap under him by end of December/ January before easing off for European competition/ domestic cups, and no one would be able to catch them because they just couldn't match their consistency through the first half of the season. Like:

2004/ 2005 - WWWWDDWWLWWWWDWWDWWWWWWWW. - just 11 points dropped by the end of January.
2005/ 2006 - WWWWWWWWWDWLWWWWWWWWWW. - just 5 points dropped by mid-January.
Even in 2014/ 2015 - WWWWDWWWDWWWDWLWWWD. - just 11 points dropped by the end of December.

Even if Guardiola becomes City's manager, you can't see a United team with 3-4 additions losing out to City by the end of the season because while Mourinho will address the basics - solidify the defense, and add counterattacking venom; Pep will definitely have some teething issues at first in terms of installing his vision at City, who don't really have a history with the style of play he professes. If we get 3-4 players José covets (unlike Chelsea's lack of summer signings at the start of the current season), that would put us in a very strong position in the league.

The Rooney of 2 years ago certainly isn't the Rooney now and I'm sure Jose will be able to access that fairly quickly.

He will play 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 variants.

DDG
Darmian---Smalling---CB(Stones)---Shaw
BFS---Schneiderlin
RW(Griezmann)---Herrera---Depay/Young
Rooney/Martial

This is why I love this forum. There are no indications Jose is even close to signing yet here we are already hypothesising what players he's going to sign

Anyway...

I can see him signing Kane, Stones and Griezmann. And possibly a left back.

I can see him converting Blind back into a CDM as he's so efficient with the ball.

He had a great relationship with Varane although Stones is much more likely. Hopefully we tap him up with a massive wage offer just to feck with Madrid though.

Would love to see Pogba brought in this summer and a quality wide player with pace.

With Mourinho at the helm, and DDG, Smalling, Stones, Shaw at the back with Schneiderlin in front of them, I just don't see how we would ever concede a goal.

Blind lacks athleticism for the role in a Mourinho team. For left back too. He's also not a specialist in any role, so I couldn't imagine Mourinho valuing him that much, to be honest.

I'd predict Carrick to leave. And a physical, athletic midfielder to join Herrera, Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin. Under Mourinho, Blind would probably last a year, before being shipped out. I could see Mane coming in too, if Willian couldn't be prized away from Chelsea.

I agree that Stones, Griezmann and Stones fit the bill for Mourinho's style. However, when you see all these names listed (Kane, Stones, Griezmann, Mane) they seem a bit young for a set of Mourinho signings. So I'm not sure he'd go for them all.
