What should we do for the right wing if we don't get Sancho in the upcoming window?

Real zaragoza's Oyarzable is really the next best thing after sancho to fill the right wing.

It's a shame we have such rubbish full backs going forward otherwise we could have tried to go with a diamond midfield instead of having wingers for the following season and recruit in a more creative central midfielder or attacking midfielder rather than panicking about the right wing for another window/season.
Means we need to buy 2 full backs too ?

Greenwood will score 15+ if he starts the next season as our first choice RW. Don't think there are so many options in the market that can hit that mark.
Done that this season and has obviously done a very good job there. The thing is if we do do that, it doesnt solve the problem we already have.....no competiton. WHo replaces the front three if injured or in poor form.............Daniel James or Ighalo only up until January, or an even older Mata

Absolutely not. He would be so ineffective there.
He’s a right footed play maker who does not have blistering pace or acceleration. It would just be another case of shoe horning a player into the RW who is not comfortable there.
Disagree though I wouldnt sign him to play right wing he can act as cover there. He DOES have good acceleration and is a strong runner, would also have very good delivery. I agree in not shoe horning but totally disagree that he would be ineffective and hasnt got good accelration, his acceleration over 5/10 yards is actually very good

Wait until Sancho is available (I still think he'll be with us for the start of next season) and concentrate on Grealish for now. Sancho & Grealish, no alternative options thank you!

When they are on-board, turn attention to the best +/- 25 year old Matic replacement we can get our hands on with the pennies we can save between now and next Summer.

Then look to best defensive CB upgrade/addition and review our striker situation after Sancho has had a year to bed-in and we can quantify Martial and Greenwood progress.

Then win countless trophies. A simple plan - what could go wrong.

Think there are a couple of options really:

1) Sign Havertz instead who is just as good and would be cheaper. Personally though when I have watched him, think he is much better in the middle than on the right. That does of course offer us cover for Fernandes and even up front, so though not as good on the right wing as Sancho, he would negate need for Grealish and even a new striker as cover (tho we dont need one anyway in my opinion)

2) Dembele on loan with option to buy. Obviously there are the injuries and worries of him beign the same player due to this and probable lack of confidence. Getting him on a loan would cost very little and allow us to invest in other areas of concern whilst still having a very talented player on our books and he can play either side too.

3) For the £108m we could instead sign 2/3 players for the same cost:

Pau Torres - Gabriel - Badiashile - Ayit-Nouri - Nuno Mendes - Camavinga - Soumare - Grealish - Tonali - Van De Beek - Sarr - Chiesa

Just a few of the players we have been linked with recently. Bar maybe Grealish as one of the signings, could pretty much sign (if a deal can be struck and player wants to join of course) pretty much any two of those players for less than the cost of Sancho and if you add Dembele on loan possibly.

The absolute ideal option would be combining all three. With possible sales and the money saved from Sanchez contract, net spend could be around £100m this summer and we could sign a new lb, cb, dm, am and rw all in one window and all of very good quality too. Sign Sancho and we are probably only looking at one other signing max, so yes I really like Sancho, if we are clever isnt a disaster missing out on him, certainly not in the short term anyway

If it goes to shit, then we should be buying Federico Chiesa.

His professionalism is widely noted, super talent, while Dembele, who amazingly people are wanting, is considered unprofessional and unfocused, over-priced and over-paid.

Dembele might be worth the risk with a loan with an optional purchase for a reasonable fee. He has unbelievable quality; just need to get his head and hamstrings right!

Sarr is probably the most sensible pick. I also like Coman, especially on loan, but doubt Munich would sell. Having looked at a lot of other alternatives and ruled them out for various reasons (Chiesa too slight, Bale unmotivated, Havertz would be out of position which isn't great for the price, Traore too expensive, Daka a striker, Stengs and Brooks too slow, Tysankov an AM, Oyazarbal a LW), my slightly left field option is Tete from Shakhtar Donetsk. He's explosive, very quick and productive with incredible dribbling skills. My only real concern over him is he's very left footed. Practically speaking, I have no idea if we'd get a work permit for him and Shakhtar charge a lot of money. He has a £130m release clause. Will be a big name in 2-3 years for sure.

I think with Pogba there, and other senior players who aren't assholes, Dembele could fit right in.

Genuinely think dembele is the worst suggestion ever. There is no evidence Barca are willing to loan on a no obligation basis, has had hamstrings made of cheese, poor performances when he has played recently, and we will pay his massive wages it reminds of me falcao. We need to stop taking chances on players in the hope they might come good again.
Barca will want a big transfer fee for him, or a plain loan meaning we get him sorted and they keep him. Barca literally need cash sums to balance their books and to be able to stay afloat.

depends entirely on the situation. If we actually can't make him a United player this season then we have to do all we can to have a similar deal in place like Real did with ourselves, where its agreed for June 2021.

if we can't do that then unfortunately we have to move on entirely as you can't wait for a player that could reject you in 12 months. Troare or Dembele on loan with option to buy.

That we’d even consider another injury prone player is baffling. Our injury record is already terrible. Our squad has a significant drop in quality off the bench. If we’re buying starters, we need to spend on players who can play a lot of minutes.

Can Zaha play on the right? I am not sure there are too many great specialist RWs available so I would try to get a top class player who is versatile and gives our attack additional options.

I would like someone who can cross. We're so dreadful in this department. To cut inside we already have Greenwood.
You need a striker who'll thrive on crosses for that to work and I'm not convinced Martial is that kind of striker. If he is he's not shown much of it, but admittedly I supppose he's not had much opportunity.

If we could get him for a reasonable fee Dembele is the best available option for us. I think people have forgotten just how supremely talented he is and if we could reinvigorate him he would be world class. His injury record is a concern but then we already have an established front 3 so it’s not a disaster if he misses chunks of the season.

Dropping from Sancho to some of the other options would be a disaster but at least with Dembele he has the talent to make a big impact here.

He has scored from a few crosses this season mate. Like the recent one from AWB's cross for example. Problem is we don't have many crosses of that quality for the whole season. We have many fast strikers with good finishing, a good crosser will help a lot imo.

I probably incorrectly associate crossing with heading, which none of our current batch tend to do a lot.

No mention of Chiesa from anyone? Think he's my favorite backup option after Sancho thats actually realistic. He's at a good age, plays primarily on the right while being positionally very versatile. Think he could be got for around 50mil and if we do end up going back for Sancho I could see him transitioning into a very good squad player that could fill in many different roles.

There is nobody. Take a pun on Sarr maybe if we can get him on the cheap. Focus on CM, CAM and LB for now. Another CB if Smalling leaves.

This is the biggest problem. Anyone we get will be 50% less influential than Sancho. Just look at the numbers he has put up.

I want a RW who is going to come in and start most games. I would not like to see us spend £50/60m on a RW and get Sarr or Chiesa because I would argue that Greenwood is better than them.

As a left-footed technical creator on the right-wing that plays similarly to Sancho; Matheus Pereira.
Loaned out to West Brom from Sporting CP this season with 8 goals and 20 assists in 42 games.

While it is doubtful that he would be able to perform to Sancho's level, he would be a great backup to Greenwood and would make us have 5 players with a decent attacking/technical level for the 3 attacking positions.
Use the rest of the money to buy an attacking left-back (Telles) and a CDM/CM (Partey). These 3 additions to the squad would make us have at least one capable option in each position in case of injuries or rest to the starting players.

Capable:
Fullbacks: Telles, AWB and Shaw.
Centrebacks: Maguire, Lindelof and Smalling.
CDM/CM: Matic, Pogba and Partey
CAM: Bruno, Pogba and Pereira.
RW: Greenwood, Pereira.
ST: Martial, Greenwood, Ighalo and Rashford.
LW: Rashford, Martial and Greenwood.

The problem is if we decide not to sign him this year, we’re essentially giving up hope of signing him at all. There will absolutely be a queue of teams for him next summer. And we by no means will be his preferred choice.

It’s either we buy him this summer or bite the bullet and see him flourish for the next 10 years at a rival premier league team.
Don't get disheartened, we payed 80 million on Harry when there is no que, we can flex our muscles if needed, also no team would match need Sancho as much we need and spend over 100 million.

Havertz will cost almost same as Sancho and so we cannot sign Sancho next season. Dembele on loan is a great option, also we need not spend 100 million

If we had fullbacks that could pass, cross and knew how to operate in the final third, the "not having Sancho" would be less obvious in our attacking ability and performance.

IMO improving the quality of depth in the squad would be equally important to signing Sancho for next season regarding ensuring a top 4 spot.

Yep there are high, medium and low cross. And fixed destination cross and cross for strikers to cut in. The only type Martial is not good for is high and fixed one I think. But most pacey strikers do as well. Not every fast strikers is CR7. It's incredible hard to find a striker that is fast, strong, good link up, good finishing, good dribbler etc. and is 190 cm.

Regardless of type, first thing when it comes to cross is accuracy. Ours is so bad that a good one is like 1/50 attempts.

Most difficult one to do is the cross for strikers to cut in. That's why KDB and TAA are currently valued so high.

I do agree with the full backs. I do think Shaw is capable of doing that, he has the technical ability, just not sure why he cannot actually do it on the pitch.

With AWB, going forward, he is awkward, the one thing that annoys me is he dwells on the ball for too long when he could make the pass much much earlier sometimes.

This is where we are stuck, none of us expect us to go spend £200m this summer so Sancho will be majority of our budget. Is he enough? No but if we can sell 3/4 players and use that money to get 2 players then I would be happier.

Shaw got the close control, but his passing decisions, positioning and inability to cross make him less than impressive in the final third. I somewhat agree with you that it is strange that he does not offer more given that he can actually control the ball at speed really well and players with his level of close control usually are much better crossers/passers/attacking players in general. So, could be something in what Mourinho referred to with Shaw needing babysitting...

Next season, I fear, that we will continue to see what we have seen over the last 7/8 games with teams actively wanting us to give the ball to our fullbacks... Either through a centralized press or with a low block with space for our fullbacks out wide. Shaw and AWB lack of ability in the buildup and final third will become more and more problematic for us as time goes on. If we had at least one fullback that could pass, cross and contribute when the team is in possession, PP and Bruno would get so much more space to operate in...

If we end up using all our £££ on Sancho while continuing to playing Shaw and AWB as our starting fullbacks next season, the conditions (lack of space) for Sancho, Bruno and PP would operate in will be problematic.

Shaw imo doesn't have a good ankle. To cross you'd need a really good, flexible ankle.

It does not make sense tbh, I have seen Shaw put in some great through balls to Rashford in the past. Not just Jose, LVG did also mention that Shaw needs to be fitter because he wants his full backs to be able to get up and down, it seems he has motivational issues. If he got his mentality right, I am less worried about Shaw.

Yep, you can see how quick teams have caught on, let Manutd go wide, they will never cross the ball in. this is where sometimes we should just whip it in and have 2/3 players in the box, we dont need the biggest team. Man City and Liverpool score loads from crosses.

I do not think we have the money to spend this summer, we will look to get a couple players to help out but not what we all think.

Alot of people are hoping we can get Sancho this window to solve our right wing problems. But as experience has taught us, signing him this window is not a certainty and for a couple of reasons(virus, price or Sancho himself). So what should we do if Sancho decides to stay another year at Dortmund considering that this will leave the right wing as still the biggest hole in the squad.
If Sancho cannot be acquired I would seriously try lure Saint-Maximum from Newcastle, there is definitely something there that could give us a boost and has played in the League, that or Grealish but not for the 80m Villa reportedly want.
