So, as unbiased as you can be, which double do you think would carry the most kudos this season (or any season for that matter)....City winning the PL and League Cup or us winning the CL and FA Cup ?

Both are still very much on !!!

About equal. The CL is the trophy I want the most as we only have three, we need to start banking some more.

Europa League and League Cup is the double everyone wants.

CL winners always get more credit than any league winners IMO.

We're not winning CL though.

There's something about winning the European Cup without winning the league that lessens it for me. It's a knockout competition so there can be a large degree of luck involved as we saw when Porto and Liverpool won it.

The best side in the country invariably wins the league so it's hard to claim to be the best in Europe when you're not the best at home.

Well the PL and FA Cup is the real double but no one is going to win them both this season. CL and FA Cup double is better than PL and League cup without a doubt this season.

We could beat Barcelona 5-0 in the UCL final and still not get the kudos that City get for winning the league

Champions League > Premier League > Europa League > FA Cup > League Cup

The PL and League cup. Because City have basically already won one and are favourites to win the other in the final.

The CL and Fa Cup are a better duo than the previous two purely down to the CL but we're underdogs in the CL and are 1/3 favourites for the Fa Cup.

No Alexandra Daddario pics before anyone thinks of posting any. Should go without saying but I know what some of you are like.

In a way City's superiority and comfortable lead in the league this season hurts its prestige a little. There's no battle there, no struggle. They've already done the hard work and now it's just a slightly underwhelming stroll to the finish line all the way off in May. I suppose they could try and stretch the lead to something even more embarrassing - and if we don't snap out of our little funk they probably will - but there's not much glory in that.

When Madrid won the CL in both 2014 and 2016, they weren't the league winners, however they got all the credit, x10 more than anything Barcelona got these 2 seasons.

CL are always more prestigious than any league title, even so I can agree on winning the league somewhat harder and needs more consistency, it's the pinnacle of football. They took most of the credit by the end of the season and rightly so.

We used to have a very competitive league in England and used to dominate it under SAF so we always favored the league more than CL, but CL is far more prestigious Imo.

For me the League Cup is kind of a supplementary trophy (no offence with you guys winning last season). Its the kind of trophy that puts a little sheen on a good season with another trophy but its not a trophy that will save a big managers job or gloss over a poor season besides. The Fa Cup is (unless you're LVG...) The league cup is kind of a polish trophy to put a shine on another trophy, on its own its nothing. A CL and FA Cup double would be a far better double. Fwiw I also think an Premier League and FA Cup double would be a better double than a CL and League Cup.

Even if we (City) were to win the CL, Premier League and League Cup, it will be a weaker treble than Uniteds.

The CL and PL is the real double nowadays.

Hard to say. There's probably no better or worse. The best team is the one that wins the league but the one history will remember more is the one that won the champions league. City would probably rather win the champions league as they've never came close to winning it. I'd have probably taken the champions league at the start of the season since it's a decade since we won it. FA cup over the league cup goes without saying.

Priority every season for me is league first then cups are a bonus.
Be hard to ignore either as both would be a great achievement for either side. City will win the league comfortably and have easily been the best side this season, so they deserve every bit of praise for that.
But if Man Utd can win the Champions League then that shows we are still a force to be reckoned with, although us winning the Europa did a lot for that too. Being European champions is a big thing only a certain handful of teams can do and rightfully gets the respect that goes with it.

How about the FA Cup and a night with Rachel Riley then?

The CL trumps everything. City could win the league in April but if United won the CL we’d have all the joy.

This

Winning the CL will always trump the league. Especially considering United already have the most league titles in England but are even behind liverpool for the European competition.

How is Chelsea's CL win tarnished? Because they won it despite being underdogs?

90% of Chelsea fans will say that the season they won the CL and FA cup double is their best season ever. Most of them don't care about how they performed in the league.

Cl and FA would trump the league and league cup

That being said I’d swap places with City right now. Their league win is already in the bag whereas we are still unlikely to win the CL

It would be tarnished like Chelsea's.

That was tarnished down to the fact that they practically fluked it. They sacked their manager and put a caretaker in charge for the crucial knock out games, it didn't feel like a true triumph because it wasn't part of a long term project. Just a very lucky cup run.

Winning the CL is only an unsatisfying achievement if we are poor in the league. By poor, I mean finishing 6th or 7th. A Chelsea-esque finish.

However, make no mistake about it, we are not poor in the league this season. Yes City are better, but we are second. So I would definitely take CL and FA Cup win this season as better than PL and League Cup provided we finish second in the league.

It's only in England that this is even a question. Winning the CL alone is more prestigious than any domestic double.

IMO you can't be a true champion if you lose the home league.

It would be great to win it of course, but tarnished non the less.

So we weren't true champions in 1968?

Different time, different format.

Not sure why that would make a difference, City won the league in 1968, we came second. Could happen again this year.

I know one thing, if we end this particular season winning the Champions League and FA Cup, I won’t care about the answer to this question or what City win.

Most of the world tends to disagree. Look at who CL champions being hailed whatever their league form was in this season. I also don't find any connection between winning the league and winning CL, each on their own. Some clubs scrap the league race when they are so close of winning CL, I hardly think the opposite can happen. CL > any thing.

I think the opinion of favoring will only be found among us (United fans mostly and premier league fans in general) due to the nature of our league, but in Spain and Italy the answer will be clear.

How is this even an argument? The Champions League is the most prestigious trophy in club football. You need to beat the best teams in Europe for the most part, over two legs. You genuinely need to be a team capable of besting the best. The PL is more so about consistency and is limited to British teams, who have hardly been competitors in Europe for a while now.

The question I want to ask is do people genuinely believe that Chelsea are comparable to Real Madrid in the last 5 years, because Madrid only won the league once whereas Chelsea have won 3 times. That's the conclusion if you think the PL is better than the CL.

League comes first. European competition after. Europe is more prestigious as it's the most globally watched, but the league is a better judge of a team's ability played out over a season. 20 over 18 is more significant than 5 over 3.

PL+League Cup is the better scenario if the gap remains the same into next season. CL+FA Cup is the better scenario if the league is taken from City the following season, otherwise the risk of becoming "just" a cup team always remains.
