As defenders go I always had a begrudging admiration for the pairing of Henchoz and Hyypia.
Yup, between him and Beckham for me.Irwin
Mostly agree with that. I believe his 12-13 season really deserved every bit of praise he got as he was truly exceptional that year but I’m not sure he was underrated before that season. Not Carrick. At least on here. If anything he's been hyped up since. Quality player that shone and stood out when others faded. Just a cog in our prime though. His best attribute was consistency. Nowt wrong with that mind.
Pretty underrated in the wider picture but surely not the most.
That 2008-09 was impressive through the middle. Very lucky Rafa spent a lot of money on Keane and upset Alonso by trying to replace him with Gareth Berry instead of realizing what he had and spending money on a right winger.Got to be Xabi Alonso / Javier Mascherano for me. Both are modern day legends but didn’t get the recognition they deserved until they left our league.
Gerrard was a great, great player but his life was made easier having those 2 behind him!
I always thought Terry received all the credit while Carvalho always seemed to be the consistent and calm presence at the back for Chelsea. Not necessarily saying he was better, just that Terry got much more credit then he deserved. United's defense always seemed to be spoken of as a duo, whereas with Chelsea, the media seemed to portray it as the Lion Heart John Terry and everyone else.Ricardo Carvalho
I don't think Zico played in the Prem.It has to be Zico, 524 goals in 770 games playing mostly as an attacking midfielder, more goals that all modern strikers( excluding Ronaldo and Messi obviously) imo the greatest attacking midfielder of all time.
Why would it? I'd want a team that can actually function, not act as the supporting act in the Roy Of Rovers show.Could one make the assumption that quite a few people here would pick Carrick ahead of Gerrard in 'their team' then?
Which you do realise would make you look quite stupendously fecking mad, innit? - .
Alan Smith? Nah he was an average player.Le Tiss, Carrick, Yorke, Steve Bruce, Paul Merson, Louis Saha**** Dennis Wise, Alan Smith.
All massively underrated...
Came in to say him. He's an oft-forgotten player.Always thought Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink never gets the props he deserves, he was a cracking player in the early 2000s.
I was probably asleep, didn't clearly checked the op just saw underrated.I don't think Zico played in the Prem.
It's because he became a cultural icon for reasons outside of football so a lot of casual fans around the world assumed he must have been the best player about.James Milner.
Amazingly consistent. Never seen as a top player prior to Pool move.
Beckham wierdly is far more respected Globally as opposed to by Utd fans!!
