I think we need to think this through, if we miss out on a young manager to do a quickish build with we should look at guys like Mancini, Valverde or anyone of that ilk. Men who know enough about football to do the right thing, make the correct decisions and who aren't married to a particular style of play who can adapt.
This squad, as bad as it is, has achieved three top 3 finishes in the last 4 seasons. The raw materials are there, what's needed now is a manager that can allow us to achieve the bare minimum whilst the structure gets to correct things that have gone wrong which includes getting rid of the poor attitudes and replacing them with players who have better work ethics, physicality and technical abilities.
I would say getting a Valverde/Mancini type in, bolster the squad to make it competitive for next season and then go about signing young talents and scouting the right long term manager could be viable strategy.
