Why are American chants so bad?

Nik (@Rood) and Imran (@Annihilate Now!) discuss United's fantastic win away against Athletic Club in the semi-final of the Europa League.
They also pick out the positives of United's 4-3 loss away at Brentford, and Nik reviews a day out at Old Trafford watching Manchester United Women qualify for the Champions League.
Still think they are missing a few Chelsea's just to be sure which team they came to support.

My mate used to live in Florida, he watched Orlando in their first few seasons, he used to get all sorts of funny looks and comments when he launched all sorts of expletives during the game.
By season three he had everyone following suit. Expletive laden chants galore.
Don't know any other way to explain this but the "fight and win" guy nods like a literal Muppet character after each chant.
Probably same reason why Americans commentators are so shit. What I would give for foreign commentators for this World Cup. The American ones are garbage and sound like they work for a company selling cardboard
Listening to the matches on Peacock has been amazing. The American speaking commentators are all former players who have never done color play by play for a club.

I'm pretty certain I've also heard an attack chant tbf.You definitely weren’t watching an NBA game. Nobody chants “ATTACK”

We are learning for football (soccer) but we really don't do song chants, it's just not part of our sporting culture.
We make noise but it's generally the bland "Let's go [insert team name here]". College sports can be a lot better and the atmosphere can still be amazing but most of our stuff centers around motivating the team as a whole, not making fun of a single opposing player for something he got arrested for or singing about putting a plant pot on someone's head.

Although could it get any worse than Chelsea ripping off the communist revolutionary song The Red Flag whilst changing the colour to blue, being owned by a billionaire American hedge fund, and being situated in the heart of the wealthiest place in the entire country? Not sure.
I feel like maybe we need a Rate That Chant thread for United chants to see what we all like and don't like. Video of people singing it, transcript of the words, explanation of the history, now go and rate it everybody.

I've watched the NBA for most of my life and I've never heard the attack chant. Might be something I didn't know was the attack chant...

I have been to hundreds of live events in the USA and never heard an attack chant. Not a thing we do here. You want good banter, college sports is where it's at (but it's generally not aggressive banter, more fun natured).
I don't know about chants but certainly at school level in Canada mostly the coach seems to shout only attaboy.

The only real history we have with chants in sports come from football/basketball cheerleaders. There’s not a whole lot of thought put in and most of them are intentionally simple call and response type of stuff done in between their pom-pom/tumbling routines.
European songs/chants have only been widely known in the US for 20-30 years, when more leagues became available on US television. We didn’t have a proper domestic league until after the ‘94 World Cup and the first decade or so, they tried to style MLS on an American sports league, so elements of European supporter culture didn’t creep in until the league began to evolve in the mid-aughts.
More and more, there are efforts to build supporter culture by the clubs themselves, including songs and chants - most of which are derivative, if not outright stolen from other clubs. It’s coming on slowly, but we’ve essentially started US supporter culture from scratch as NBA/NFL/MLB fandom is more or less just yelling as loud as you can and clapping.

Thank goodness NBC got it right with commentators , besides that cnut Arlo, who thankfully took the Saudi money and went to LIV.
I am a Ravens NFL season ticket holder, and though we can never keep up with anything like the Prem there are some great chants we get going but never stadium wide. I did also appreciate the Buffalo fans in the preseason, chanting in unison, "You sick f%ck' to Deshaun Watson. That made me happy.
Our CFL team here in Saskatchewan, Canada is known as the Roughriders. We stole Chelsea's "Blue is the colour, football is the game" song and changed it to "Green is the colour".
They dont have a fan culture like the one which exists in Europe or South America.

This just epitomises just how shite those damn Yanks are. They really just don't get it. I feel sorry for the poor feckers.
I've watched NHL on TV for years and often wondered why there's zero atmosphere in the arenas, then I went to a hockey game a few weeks back, in Philly of all places, and there's a pregame warning to not shout and swear. Which people seems to abide by. Everyone just sits in near silence, watching psychopaths on knife shoes smash into each other and fight, and they'll barely acknowledge anything except a goal.
English speaking North Americans don't know how to sing at any sport. It's not in the culture and it sucks.
Probably because sports there somehow feel a lot more family oriented.
