Workrate

Plenty of problems in this team but the biggest one and the most easily fixed is players putting in the effort. I don't think we have a single player who puts in 100%. Not the home grown lads, not Bruno or Ronaldo and certainly not any of our defenders. The only two that come close are Fred and Elanga but even that is a stretch looking at a few of their performances in Europe.

If ETH comes in and these clowns are still walking and jogging about, spending time rolling around and diving when they're losing a fecking game then get rid of all these jokers. For the love of United play the fecking kids now.

Are you just looking for your next set of players to complain about?

I agree.

The lack of effort and will to win clearly on display today, and God knows how many times throughout the season, is utterly shameful.

that's just how united role

Liverpool and City: Players who don't perform to a high standard or give 100% effort - dropped, eventually sold

United: Players who don't perform to a high standard or give 100% effort - Play every week + new contract + stay till you old

In Maguires case - Play every week + Guaranteed captaincy

How we have fallen ...

It is sadder than that, I think a lot of these players are giving their all. They are just so far off it that it doesn't matter.
Genuinely? Names of players you think are giving it their all please?

No chance this is their best. We are thr laziest team in the league without the ball. And we khabe a manager renowned for pressing. These players are not bothered. Cnuts.

The only players who give it all physically for me are Fred and Bruno, unfortunately Fred makes too many mistakes and Bruno doesn’t use his head enough, but I’ll not complain about their effort, the rest of them walk or jog around far too much, don’t track runners and just do what ever.

just watch a random City/Liverpool game and focus on the intensity of their players, you will know how wrong you are.

Our players are obviously not giving 100%, as evident by their constant switch offs, jogging back when we got countered, refusing to overlap/underlap, loosing up body muscles when we are fighting 50-50s, rolling on the pitch to waste time for the opponents (and to rest their own bodies) when we are 0-1 behind, etc. Their poor crosses and shootings (which are kinda practice makes perfect thing) also show that they don't train hard enough.

Off the top of my head:

Maguire
Lindelof
Telles
Dalot
AWB
Matic
McTominay
Fred

obvious no for AWB and McTominay at least, they love slowly jogging back when we got countered. they also show poor urgency when we are behind. it is like they take losing points for granted

The manager sets the culture, or should. In the case of an interim manager, the players probably care about his authority, especially if they are rotten to begin with, and have been used to a free pass culture.

Once our new manager comes in, if he is given the proper authority, anyone not pulling their weight should be benched or sold. If you can't punish players for lack of effort, how can you be expected to compete?

There was a moment late in the game today when Maguire went up and actually challenged for the ball and won it near their left corner flag, then a temamte lost the ball and as Everton are about to counter you can see him walking back lazily knowing that he's left a massive hole in the defense. Only when the ball goes out of a play a few seconds later does he start jogging back. It's so obvious they've mentally checked out. Someone of them never really checked in.

Running stats show they run less than pretty much every team they play. I just can’t see how they’re giving it their all and still having lower running stats than a team like Everton who have been a disgrace this season.

The problem is you shouldn’t even have to ask for it, it should be done automatically the second they step onto the pitch. It just shows how deep the rot has set in.
Maybe they're just conserving their energy for when Hag comes in. They'll be effort-monsters next season. Ha, ha,....................urh.

Totally agree, it should be the bare minimum for any professional footballer. Especially when you are playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world and are looked upon as an idol by your young fans. If you can’t do that, then you shouldn’t wear the shirt.

Haha you joke but these players have displayed that Jekyll and Hyde mentality numerous times before when a new guy comes in or there’s a contract up for renewal. Then once they get comfy again the standards drop off a cliff.

They did run for 30 minutes under Ragnick, then they decided it was too much effort and stopped.

The vast majority, and I mean 16/17 of the 1st team squad needs to sold/let go. The toxicity they bring to the club and dressing room will affect the new recruits, so much like a cancer growth, they need to be cut away from the club for good.

United had more possession, is that a symptom of that I wonder? Does the team that has less possession run more in the game usually? And if so what would the normal km difference be?
Probably something to do with possession but on the ball we never showed for it, lots of players jogging behind Everton players and just standing there once they were in a position where they couldn't be found by the player on the ball. Zero movement, zero work rate

I have always thought if you have the ball it makes the other team run about more. Isn't that LVG wanted from his team. However the whole point then is not to give the ball away needlessly.

Mad how a 6 year old thread is still relevant today.

Always had a bunch of lazy bastards in the squad. There's only a select few actually work their bollocks off.

It seems like the players see the game as zero sum, ie “if I help player x do well, it will hurt me”. Wonder how you get to that mindset.

Depends on the style. When you have a lot off the ball movement, you still run a lot while in possession.

If you just park the bus you might get away with not much running despite mostly defending.
