If Besiktas have a fixed-term loan that runs to the summer, with an option to buy at the end of it, then someone is going to have to pay to persuade them to rip up that contract.

I think whoever we bring in, whether it's Felix, Depay, Dembele or Weghorst, they will be our first choice striker in no time. Can't see Martial keeping anybody out of our starting 11.
Think we’ll rotate depending on the opposition. Martial will probably be better against the likes of city/Liverpool who play high lines. Weghorst if we get him will be good against teams who like to defend deep.

Exactly. I don't get the Besiktas hate. They've made a really good deal and they shouldn't get anything out of losing a good player? :wenger:
But if he was shit they'd be stuck with him of course, that's fine.

I do wonder, because it seems like Burnley are doing a lot to help United get this done, what is in it for them?

Does it make a difference for them if he's at Besiktas or United?

I imagine if he’s good for us then they’ll either ask us for a big premium to sign him outright, keep him for themselves if/when they come back up (would take a catastrophic meltdown on their part to not get automatically promoted at the moment) or sell to someone else for a big premium.

Money? I'd imagine we'd be paying whatever "compensation" Besiktas get as well as some sort of fee to Burnley themselves.

Would be strange if Burnley don't have a recall option - but who knows

Probably is much more advanced but I wonder how various loan deals can be halted?

If for example we loaned Felix last summer, became top scorer and PSG contacted Atletico today and say we want him, we'd be pissed. I don't recall many loan deals halted unless recalled by the owner club due to injury/suspension of other players. I think we're possibly signing him on a 1.5 year contract.

Have already said previously have nothing against signing him provided we still get a proven top number 9 in the summer

That's a good point actually.

If he goes to United and scores 10 goals, scores important goals and wins something then Burnley are able to flog "Manchester United and Holland star striker Wout Weghorst" this Summer which is probably a good selling pitch to get a premium return

I think they have an option to buy at £10m
I read somewhere that Besiktas had an obligation to buy as part of the loan, so, to some extent, you could see why they'd see him as their player.

I imagine this will get done, somehow, but it may drag on until the end of the January window.
He's their top scorer this season
I appreciate the above, but if he has no interest after this, how does that pan out at the end of the season? Are they going to spend 10m on someone who will probably not agree a contract or not want to be there? Not to mention will be pissed off for the rest of the season.

This seems odd too.

We'll probably pay, and they might be wanting to do right by the player - he's reportedly desperate for the move.

If they want to impose an obligation to buy I guess they think we are good for more than Besiktas who are reported to have money worries.

Can't blame Besiktas for holding out, they've agreed a contract for the season and have a reasonable fee to make it permanent. At least it's a good sign that they're desperate to keep him, if it was Dele Alli we were interested in I'm sure they wouldn't have any complaints about cancelling the loan.

The relationship between him and Burnley seems to have broken down when he abandoned them after they got relegated. The incentive for Burnley here should be getting top dollar for the player. Thats why it makes zero sense for Besiktas to play ball unless they are getting compensated handsomely.

Wow. Didn’t know that. Must be a Dutch thing.
Yeah, I asked about this on here a while ago, wondering why some Dutchies have names that sound like they're 14th century aristocrats (Rutgerus Johannes Martinus van Nistelrooij/Aloysius Paulus Maria van Gaal).

One of our Dutch posters mentioned that it's tradition for Dutch Catholics to give their kids wacky latin-esque names like that, and giving Maria as a middle name in particular seems to be a mark of devotion to the Virgin Mary.

If he’s insistent on not signing for them, he goes back to Burnley after the summer.

Makes sense that we‘re mulling over permanent transfer or loan.

If he’s a loan and he’s good then Burnley can say ‘Feck you, £20m now’ in the summer, or we could just buy him outright now for half that probably.

This seems messy, but also a bit odd for Besiktas to go so mental over someone they don't even own.
They just want to get some extra money. I simply can't believe that we are again involved in some messy transfer.
Casemiro transfer was joy to follow.
Rumour first day, "wow this is serious shit" second day and "done deal" third day.

Yeah, that does miss out the part where they have their top scorer unhappy for the rest of the season though.

Yeah, of course. I guess it's the public nature of it all a bit weird, considering it's not actually their player.

We need some reliable journos to give their views on this worryingly official statement
Why you get worried so easily? Fear of losing Weghorst? Its Weghorst not Gerd muller. It seems you live in a constant fear all the time over transfers. How do you do it?

We’re probably offering a higher buying price after the loan or Burnley feels like they can get more than what they agreed with Bestikas after his performance for them so far.
