Personally, I would go:

----------------De Gea--------------

-Jones---Smalling--Vidic---Rafael--

--------Carrick---Cleverley------
-----------Rooney----------------

--Shinji---Persie----Welbeck--

Rooney is essentially a midfielder for this game, with Shinji tucking in too. Persie to hold up and Welbeck to spring the counter.

Rafael --- Smalling --- Jones ---- Evans

Fletcher
Cleverley --- Giggs

Rooney ----RVP ---- Welbeck

Maybe Carrick instead of Fletcher - but I'm mainly thinking get as many runners on the pitch as possible. I think this seasons Carrick will get lost in a game like this anyway.

Rafael-----Rio--Vidic------Buttner (playing very disciplined!!)

edited......if we are to do well on the break we'll need someone capable of hitting a defense splitting pass

Giggs seems the most likely

The few times we get the ball, we are going to have to keep it. Carrick is a player who can do that in Europe, we will need him. Imagine trying to have Fellaini trying to keep the ball in the middle

A Carrick/Fellaini midfield against Bayern scares the crap out of me. They're just not mobile enough, and will be against the most mobile team around....

CB is a massive issue for us. Ideally I would want Smalling and Evans playing there.

Red Yankee is human scum.
De Gea
Rafael Vidic Smalling Evans
Carrick Jones
Valencia Rooney Welbeck
Van Persie
Rooney very deep in the midfield. Valencia coming in and helping in the middle and also to protect Rafael.

Magical Manchester United.
De Gea
Rafael - Jones - Smalling - Evans
Carrick - Fellaini
Rooney - Kagawa - Welbeck
RvP

Midfield three, Welbeck and Rooney wide (hard working but still good link-up)... no way will DM play Adnan in these games. Our full-backs will be up against the likes of Alaba, Ribery, Robben, Müller and Götze, so lots of tracking back is required.

Evans will get rinsed at lb. Jones has to play cm. We have to play 3 in the middle for both legs. Need the mobility in the centre so no Fellaini.

What Moyes will play:

------------De Gea
-------Ferdinand--Vidic
Rafael---------------------Evans
--------Carrick----Jones
Valencia----Fellaini-------Rooney
--------------RVP

What I'd play:

------------De Gea
-------Ferdinand---Evans
Smalling---------------------Rafael
---------Carrick----Jones
Valencia----Rooney-------Welbeck
--------------RVP

We can't outplay Bayern, but we can make them work harder via sheer pace and physicality than they would like. We need to rough them up as much as the ref will allow and try hard to hit them on the break. I expect us to play using Moyes' Everton template. lots of soaking up pressure and then trying to hit them hard on the break.

We will need pace. That back line isn't comfortable on the back foot, and having Valencia and Welbeck on the wings will keep them honest at least.

If RVP is still injured, let's play Rooney up top, with Shinji behind him. If RVP is healthy, place him up top, with Rooney behind him. Behind him, a midfield of Jones and Carrick to anchor the midfield. Evans, Smalling, Neutered Rafa and Buttman at the back.

Tuck in the fullbacks to limit the space Robben and Ribery have. Pray Muller slaps Guardiola before the match and is benched. Sub on Januzaj, Kagawa and Fellaini 60 minutes in.

I like this team. I was keen for Shinji to be involved as he's a player they respect and may be a bit worried about, and also one we know who won't be overawed by playing them. That said, I'd be pleased with your team.

The reason I'm starting this midfield is because we can't pass against them, its simply impossible. Send our best midfielders in terms of work rate(Fletcher and Fellaini) and add Giggs to them to provide some wisdom, and send the front three running their socks off and try to hit counter and basically don't get demolished hopefully.

Fellaini is fouling machine. He won't last the game against the likes of Muller, Robben and Ribery. Whatever tactcics we use Phil Jones has to be in midfield and Welbeck has to play in some capacity.

I think if the second leg was at OT, I'd try it more tactically and perhaps play for a draw at theirs, and park the bus at ours. However, that's not the case, we start at OT, meaning a poor result there, would make it nearly impossible to beat Bayern at their place. With that in mind, the first game needs to be approached in an attacking manner, so I would opt for:
DDG
Rafael Evans Jones Evra
Fellaini
Nani Kagawa Januzaj
Rooney
______Persie
Should we manage to even grab a 1-0 say, and close off after 60 minutes and win the game, I would then look for the bus when we go to Germany, playing this:
DDG
Rafael Smalling Vidic Evans
Carrick Fellaini Jones
Valencia Wayne
Persie

Keep a clean shit tomorrow, United is my final bus
Midfield of Giggs - Fellaini - Carrick. Let Fellaini push forward and try to cause problems. Drop RVP - when we don't have the ball as much he's just a passenger. Welbeck and Valencia on the wings.

All in all, we're just going to have to try and out fight them and use some physicality.

Midfield Diamond With Fellaini in the number 10 role ? Make it difficult for them :)
