Supposedly he said "filho, para ti" which means "son, for you".

I think he is. It certainly looked like it when I seen it earlier. The Denmark fans being dicks seems to have spurred him on.
I am no professional lip reader but it does not look like he says that to me. The word that he says seems to start in M but not end in I. I don't think that he would be that pathetic either, what is the point in a one way rivalry?

You might be right. Always tough to lip read when a person is probably speaking in another language anyway but one look at it earlier it gave me that impression. I doubt it would've been aimed at Messi anyway. More likely the idiots chanting it at him last week.

Messi's really getting to him isn't he? Suppose deep does he does feel inferior in a way, which is a shame because I don't mind Ronaldo. He's lost that unpredictability I liked about him when he first came to the Prem but the way he's turned into this scoring machine for Madrid is pretty amazing really.

Typical bullshit from the RTE panel debating whether Ronaldo is a "great" player or not, after what he produced for us and after an incredible couple of seasons with madrid, they focused on his "bratish" side for pretty much the entire after match analysis, even though tonight he hit the woodwork 4 times and showed brilliant anticipation and determination to run across the Czech defence to score and send his team into the semis of the Euros.... as good an analyst as Johnny Giles is, he is living in the past on this one imo. Basically he appears to be saying he should have a better "personality" on the pitch, but do you think any manager in World football would give a feck what your personality is if you are scoring between 40-60 goals a season with a fantastic disciplinary and injury record?

I think that we may be going through an exceptional era of football history at the moment and in ten years time we will look back and think WOW.

The word he is saying clearly looks like para ti as others have indicated. At first I was sure it was Messi but now when viewing it I can see its clearly para ti

Exactly he was, as he always does when he scores, doing the squeezing hands baby gesture for his son and then he said 'for you' . He was talking to his kid. Its amazing people think Ronaldo thinks about Messi that much.

Ridiculous how good he was tonight. He's really got everything. Some of the things he did tonight were outrageous. There are moments when you forget how good Ronaldo actually is and then on night's like this he reminds you. Genius.

Heaven on earth
His goal reminded me of the one he scored (the third) against Tottenham in 2009 when we were losing 0-2. Seems like yesterday :(

simply the best player i ever watch in my life...better than maradona better than messi...
I wouldn't go that far. In truth, I'm a huge Ronaldo fan and try to follow his progress at Madrid. But I'm also increasingly annoyed with Ronaldo fan boys who spend a lot of time in their crusades to prove that he's better than Messi. Its a bit demeaning to Ronaldo's own extraordinary accomplishments to perpetually compare him to someone who in all likelihood, will go down as the greatest footballer of all time.

If he scores another in the semi's , will it make him the front runner for Balon D'or?

For me, yes. Even though Messi beat him in terms of goals scored, Ronaldo's performances will have been incredibly effective for both club and country.

Yes also performance in international tournaments also plays a major role in this award.

I'm not of his fans but I think even if Portugal loses in the semis, the next Ballon d'Or should be his.
The problem is that Messi has got so much love from medias worldwide, it's like a popularity contest.Ronaldo deserves to win the next Ballon d'Or but stranger things have happened before (Cannavaro 2006, Kaka 2008).

Your examples are interesting because both those players won the award for contributing greatly to their team winning a major honour, something that Messi has not done this year. Messi though still managed to win the Ballon D'Or in 2010 even though Iniesta, Xavi and Sneijder had better seasons in terms of silverware.

I have a feeling that even if Ronaldo leads Portugal to Euro glory, which is a really big ask considering how the Portuguese squad measures up against Spain and Germany, Messi will still win the Ballon D'Or

Messi is the most talented player in the world, without question, but such is the admiration for him from his fellow professionals and the media, it is going to take a whole lot (and then some) to take that award from him when he is scoring 70 goals in a season.

I feel that Ronaldo will have to put in two crucial and brilliant performances in the semi final and final to even stand a chance.

Exactly what I think too.
The examples I used didn't really correspond to my point but at the same time they showed that "deserving" to win the award and actually winning it are two different things.

I agree too, he will need a massive performance against a tournament favourite to stand a chance of winning the ballon d'or. The Czech's weren't very good and the dutch were defeated. Spain or France will be massive and if he can do the business against them then people will have to stand up and take notice.
