Or maybe he was told to press in this game so he did his job?

He seemed to know when and how to work smart when he did a job on Pirlo in the summer before Hodgson had a brain fart and took him off, after which Pirlo took the game over because noone was blocking his passing lanes- only Carroll was on him chasing after the ball like a retarded German shepherd after a tennis ball...

Summed him up that half I think.

Excellent outside the box, great work rate and the final ball e.g. the cut back to Kagawa just isn't quite there yet.

He's so close though, on the cusp of being one of the best players in this league.

He's frustrating. Frustrating because he's ridiculously good. He creates chances out of nothing with some amazing buildup and then just can't find that final ball or finish.

Sums it up for me, just seems to lose his head when he gets into the box

First time in a while that I can see his long term future being out wide rather than as a striker.

He is so so close to being that top player we all know he can be, hes only going to improve with matches like today so im delighted hes playing. Same again second half with just a quick look up in the box

Top class outside the box. He's got speed, can dribble and is a decent passer of the ball. He makes decent runs and finds space to but soon as he gets anywhere near the box though he looks like a different player.

Same here. He's getting better and better, but still can't find a final ball to save his life.
He was inches away from picking out Kagawa for the tap-in twice today, it was good defending and 'keeping rather than any lack of vision or passing which got in the way of that. He's got so many qualities that can hurt you.

He goes brain dead when he goes near the penalty area. It'll get better with maturity, really does look like such a unique talent bar those mishaps though.

I wasn't as impressed with him as most seemed after the Liverpool game but I thought he was great today.

Not excellent where it matters. Partly to blame for the goal. His work ethic is overshadowing his faults too much for some people.

Still don't know what kind of player he is.

He was very good. linked up very well. Would have scored too when RVP had a shot saved when he was off. Welbeck had an empty net had RVP left it.

He did the difficult bits well in the build up but if his final product prevented us from putting the game to bed.

thought he was excellent today. People will give him shit for his finishing etc but he worked his socks off and was a key part in all our good attacking play.

Thought he was out of gas at the end and we could have used fresher legs like Anderson to run around a bit but heck we were so close to seeing it out.

Significantly more to blame for ours.

His work ethic is such a tiny part of his game. Pace, dribbling, passing, touch - they're all great. Add finishing into the mix and that's the complete forward.

Yeh but... it's not in the mix, is it? Give me technique, pace and power and I'll be the best striker in the game. But I don't have them, so I'm not.

Edit - not that I'm saying he played badly; far from it. But until he can actually learn how to finish, I'm not sure he should be starting up top as one of our main strikers.

Agree he's potentially either Paulo Wanchop or George Weah depending on how his final product develops. Potential is mental regarding him.

Fantastic management from Sir Alex. Them performances and being picked ahead of Rooney and Hernandez will certainly give him a lot of confidence and self belief.

Our best attacking outlet today, he needs to gain composure on a consistent basis in the final third, but he's still a handful for teams as it is.

It's not really the same thing though is it? He's just after leading the line for us last year - one of our best goalscoring seasons in history. Even when he's not scoring he's bringing others into play, he's constantly stretching the defence, he's rotating with all of our attacking players...

Well, he played on the wing today and has done for most of the season so you should have very few complaints.

The type of player the British love. Runs about alot but is totally devoid of any touch, technique or finishing ability. His scoring record is appalling. A big favourite of Ferguson it seems and as a result will probably be the cause of both Berbatov and Hernandez leaving, both of whom are far superior players.

That is, for my money, the worst thing ever written on this forum.

Was anyone a little bit annoyed at RVP when touched that great cross from Jones?

He was in an offside position and had he left that Danny would've gotten an open goal.
