I'm pretty sure Liam was dismissing Pellegrinni as a nothing manager at the start of the season.

Meh, he isn't proven. Sending Villareal (a team with a lower budget than Everton) on semi of UCL and getting 95 points with Madrid isn't nothing compared to finishing with Everton fourth in the mighy Premier League. Anyway he was just lucky to have Riquelme, Forlan, Ronaldo etc in his team.

Flavour of the month.

I wish Moyes could achieve flavour of the week.

Not having a go at you Liam. But you seem quite dismissive of some of the top coaches in football for some reason.

Simeone is not flavour of the month. How many coaches you know that can say they beat Mourinho in a cup final? First Atletico coach to get a league victory over Madrid in like 13 years.

You make it sound so easy. What kind of response is he had falcao? You do know the coach before him had Falcao and yet they were in the bottom half. He's turned them from a side who were always leaking goals to a defensively organised team.

Also your point about Klopp is laughable too. He's had a shoestring budget. Yet has had his team outplay Madrid three times and City two times. When was the last time Moyes Everton outplayed one of the big boys?

Older but no wiser. At all. Not even a tiny bit.
I can't help feeling that Moyes is a bit of sacrificial lamb - SAF's successor was always doomed to failure compared to the man himself. Moyes successor will have far less pressure and expectations will be lessened.
Give Ole Gunnar a year or so to prove himself in the premiership and give him a chance?

I don't think it'll be Ole, but I'm starting to think Moyes was the sacrificial lamb.

Tell me, how did Martinez manage to win the fa cup with Wigan? I'm sure all Everton fans would love to sacrifice a few of their 6th or 7th league finishes for 15th placed finishes if it came with a trophy. In the end, what is the thing the fans will remember? A manager keeping them in the premier league for yet another season or winning the fa cup? It's no contest.
Yep. Just what United needs. An FA cup and relegation. Proud, impressive moment in history.

Don't you think that with better players he would have done better. Actually he is doing better with better players in Everton.

Is finishing eighth in average and one time fourth in 10 years (and bottling the chance for UCL that year) what United need then? By your own logic.

Stop being obtuse. For a club like Wigan, what do you think the fans will remember? The FA cup win was one of the proudest moment in their history and something they'll always remember, they don't care that they got relegated at the expense of it. They're in a relegation scrap every year so it was always going to be hard for him to keep them up while playing good football and not resorting to long ball tactics. What has Moyes won? Ever? Everton fans have nothing other then the odd win against Liverpool to look back on during Moyes' reign. Every year they finish between 8th and 5th, never threatening to make it to the champions league and never really threatening to win a trophy (other then getting to the final one year). From a club like Everton, that just isn't enough to settle for mid table and not push on in any competition.

Ask @SilentWitness what he'd prefer. Finishing 6th/7th every year and not having any cup run or winning the FA cup one year and finishing like 12th.
It doesn't even have to be like that obviously, but with Wigan and the size and quality of their squad, they would always need to concentrate everything in one tournament. Everton's league form would struggle for a bit if they went on a long cup run probably, but Martinez is definitely in a much better position achieve stuff in the league and cups.

Anyways, like I said before, some managers with their style are suited to top teams and some to mid-table or bottom teams to push them up. Just cause somebody like Pep, Mourinho or Sir Alex are great manager for top teams, it doesn't necessarily mean they'd do well in a relegation scrap.

You don't give 65m to the sacrificial lamb.

Actually the entire idea of the sacrificial lamb is a bit ridiculous. There isn't much true that the club would surely do worse without SAF. There wasn't no need to become shit in order for then to become good. The next manager won't have a more easy job to build a team with players low in confidence (and considering that some might leave in the summer) and with worse players.

Simply, the club made the wrong decision. Because they were hurried and looked at the wrong requirements. They looked at requirements that make someone a good midtable manager. And surprise surprise, our team is now in midtable.

It's a fecking tournament. Tournaments are mostly won by the luck of the draw. Tournament managing is nothing like season managing. He's been shit year in and year out, often underperforming. Teams that are wildly inconsistent. Having amazing months, then turning to crap for no reason. His career has been rather mystifying as to why he can get players to perform well, then suddenly have them turn to shit.

He's should not in any way shape or form be used as a manager who should replace Moyes. It's complete hypocrisy. By a mile.

 Not saying that the luck doesn't play a part there (more than in the league) but they are mostly win by the luck of the draw is a bit too far.

People would prefer him instead to Moyes, because he plays an attractive brand of football which gives you hope that with good players might be succesful. Moyes doesn't. No-one is claiming that Martinez has been proven a better manager than Moyes. What we are saying though, is that he has a higher potential than Moyes which means that he mas more chances than Moyes to succedd in a big club.

Toni Pulis and Big Sam are excellent on keeping teams in the league (regardless how shit those teams are). I'll bet that with a shit team they'll do better (in terms of results, not performances) than Martinez or Laudrup. Give them a better team though, and they'll still get the same results though. Give to Martinez a better team and he might be a big success (or a complete failure like Zeman at Roma). With Moyes you'll be very average. Of course we'll improve if we give him time (it is frankly impossible to not improve) but Moyes' best and what is acceptable here are far away from each other.

Underperforming? He was manager of Wigan ffs. They were punching above their weight just staying in the league all those years. His style of football has always been more suited to top teams, teams expected to dominate games and win rather then trying to stay alive. Moyes on the other hand has always been more suited to teams in the lower half of the league and making them punch above their weight. I'm not saying Martinez was the man we should have gone for, far from it, but you're saying he's a shite manager when he so clearly isn't and is proving that this season. He has Everton 5 points above us, after we took Everton's old boss and they took Wigan's old boss, all while they are playing better football then us despite having far inferior players. Doesn't that tell its own story?

And their best/second best player. Don't forget that.

This just shows how badly Moyes had been performing even at Everton!

So why did we go for this 2nd grade manager?

David May, Roy Keane, is Darren Ferguson working ? What about Neville Neville he's passionate and driven he must be, he's brought up two United players, is Quinton Fortune available or any other pillock with no real managerial experience but would obviously outperform the current bloke. Perhaps magically transforming our current squad into one not built entirely for the shit 4-4-2 formation into one that plays a mythical formation of beauty where suddenly our top front line have no injuries and we have all the necessary players to play a fluid interchanging frontal 4 capable of breaking down even Stoke's fortress like defence.
I see Wigans old manager is now getting a good run at it despite guiding them to relegation just last year  some of the shit that people think make me wonder how on earth we made it out of the caves and into civilised living.

Yeah, quite clear Moyes and RVP don't get on. Moyes changed his training methods and RVP started picking up injuries. Then there's Rio leaking the team to the press which I find inexcusable in the circumstances. You've got a new manager up against it, needing all the players to rally round and get behind him, and you've got Rio pulling shit like that?
God knows if that rumor is true. However if its true, well, Moyes has to get used to manage world class players. If he can't do that, then he should go back to where he came from.

May I remind you that RVP was lead by two brilliant managers and they never said a bad word against him.

Van Gaal. Wins trophies while playing decent ATTACKING football. Speaks english. Is Dutch. Doesn't pander to the media and gives zero fcuks how he is viewed by the players or media. Is available in the summer for nothing.

I'm not being defensive. Simply stating an obvious fact that the job must be earnt. Tell me, would you be in favor of say Seedorf (prior to him joining Milan) taking over from Moyes?
At this point in time, any slightly renowned football manager would seem to be able to do a better job than Moyes.

How is it even possible that in a summer in which Guardiola, Mourinho, Ancelotti, and Pellegrini all took new jobs, Manchester United chose David Moyes? If the club wishes to take a chance and appoint a young, upcoming, and relatively unproven manager with affiliation and love for the club like Solskjær, fine, the fans will be happy to give him a chance to grow into the role. But David Moyes? What on Earth was Ferguson thinking? A catastrophic err in judgement. Moyes has not achieved anything other than the stability of mid-table mediocrity at Everton. No trophies, just dull football and a predictable finish every season. He was always the wrong choice, and we are now seeing just how disastrously wrong he is for the job.

Simeone is more closely resembling Ferguson with every passing day. He's breaking up the duopoly of La Liga, much as Ferguson did to the Old Firm, and is playing a brand of passionate, confident, aggressive, and entertaining football that closely resembles Ferguson's at his best. He's won European trophies against the odds just as Ferguson did with Aberdeen. Now this is a manager in the mould of Ferguson, not some mid-table manager who is simply also from Glasgow. However, it is difficult to see us luring Simeone from his impressive accomplishments with Atlético, so perhaps this is just wishful thinking.

Klopp, however, I believe might be a possibility. He may be growing tired of Bayern's domination. He is constantly losing his best players and Bayern move further and further ahead. He may relish the chance to rescue Manchester United, a fallen giant, much as he did with Dortmund to magnificent effect. Of course we all know of his charisma and attractive style of play, the total antithesis of Moyes. But I fear the prospect of Klopp, too, might simply be wishful thinking.

I think we'd take Harry Redknapp over Moyes. When's the last time you've been this unconfident going into a Fulham game?

This really is quite incredible. No one except someone with a bias towards British Managers would have picked Moyes.

Completely agree. If we were going for an inexperienced, trophyless manager, then I would have just picked Ole. Then again, he has a trophy. It really is damning when in all the years at Everton he never won a single trophy. And then you look at all the clubs that have, teams like Wigan, Swansea, Birmingham and Liverpool. We are getting what we deserve. It was a ridiculous decision to appoint him. He is not a winner.

How much of Ferguson's ego actually played a part in him choosing Moyes?
A big part of it I'd say. Ferguson's legacy to me at this stage is that he left a poor squad and hand picked a very poor replacement for himself.

From Fergie's quotes, it seems like he's going to back Moyes all the way. We could be having this discussion for a very long time.

I dont think the squad was particularly poor but his choice to replace him was definitely poor. We just needed a few tweaks and a couple of world additions to make us strong in Europe and Moyes failed to do so this past summer and as a result we are paying the price for it right now. The only reason I could think of for Fergie to pick someone like Moyes was that he didnt want the next manager to be as successful as he was right away. I still cant fathom as to why he would go pick Moyes over the likes of Pep, Mou, Ancelotti and even Pellegrini.

Moyes is only in the job because of him and him alone (and Chartlon's reservations on Mourinho). So naturally he's going to stubbornly stick by his man instead of swallowing his pride.

Its unfortunate but I hope the Glazer's aren't as patient.
