Why would we change it just because we're facing Real Madrid? It's a pre season friendly anyways, we don't need to park the bus just because they have a few world class players. We've looked better then them these last few games anyways.
LVG did say he'll stick to the same formation for the whole tour. So I don't expect a change in formation

I want to see this team tested out:

--------------- DDG --------------
---- Smalling - Evans - Blacket ----
Valencia - Fletcher - Herrera - Shaw
------------- Kagawa--------------
---------- Mata - Rooney ---------
In this system of all systems there is no justification for playing Mata and Kagawa. In a 4231, maybe. But Mata is a terrible fit for that striker position (and Kagawa would be too).

Just leave Welbeck there where he belongs. He loves playing Madrid!

Welbeck is so average! He works hard but he is essentially pioneering defensive striker. He should not have one of the striking positions. I would rather hold onto hernandez.

Disagree, I think welbeck is fantastic. Genuine pace, works hard, great at linking the play up, and is improving his anticipation rapidly

Improving? How are his goal stats? He is a striker and its his primary role to score goals? I don't get it.

Yeah that Welbeck debate isn't even worth it.
Judging by LvG's reactions at refereeing decisions in the last game I think it's fair to say he'll put out the strongest available side for this.

Go with Welbz and Roo up top. Whatever one thinks of Danny he gives us more than Kagawa right now and all that hard work pays off for chances to Roo.

I wish I could be there at the big house. But I hope it won't be a torrid hot and humid day. The oppressive weather conditions in that part of the US in August should not be underestimated.

Gutted that I can't go. I live about 3 hours away, but it's the closest United have been since 2010 so I was planning to get tickets but they sold out quickly. I think we could take this one, 3-2 sounds realistic. LvG might try to incorporate Kagawa, Mata and Herrera into one team which may be interesting.

The wiki page says about rules that if teams are tied on points it will be settled by (a) head-to-head result, (b) goal differential, (c) goals scored. So, does it mean that we only need to draw against Real and even if we lose on penalty, we are through, irrespective of what happens in other game? Roma we beat so we are ahead on head-to-head. Not sure beating Inter on penalty counts as better head-to-head.

Roma should be able to beat Inter I guess so we can go through to final with draw and have a game against Liverpool (as it stands). The final is just 48 hours after Madrid game, so not sure if it benefits the team.

Real lost to Roma with more than half of the team being kids from Castilla, the youth team. Actually they did very good in the first half. It's going to be an interesting game.

Can see LvG putting out a good team for this one. Not too sure what players Real have with them (most famous i've seen is Bale) but if they take it seriously and have even half of their senior squad with them it will be a tough match for us.

When you submit a line up you get points for the ones you get right and apparently this enters us into a table, how do we see that table?

Apparently Ronaldo is back for this one, which bodes well for us.

Always good have a secret agent in your opposition's team.

Mind you last time he felt guilty because of how much he appreciated SAF boosting into the player he became, so maybe he won't be so bothered about beating LvG's men.

Real's starting lineup vs Roma:

Casillas, Carvajal, Ramos, Pepe, Coentrao, Alonso, Modric, Illaramendi, Isco, Bale, Lucas.

Where are the kids here? They didn't even change whole team at half time like we do. Did major changes quite late in game. After 65 minutes.

Did you watch this game?. Roma didn't even came close to shoot on goal in the first half. Take a look at the second half and all the kids Real had on the pitch. That's what I meant.

Real looked good against Roma. Somehow couldnt get the ball into the net...a bit like us against Inter, just that they lost to a brilliant goal from Totti.

I look forward to the game.

Hopefully we win, purely because it looks like we'd be playing the scousers in the final.

I never said Real played badly. Most of their subs or the kids came on after 65 minutes. Roma too subbed their players. Real might have played well but your initial post makes it sound like Roma beat a team of kids, which is not the case.

I hope we play a team like that one there. It gives a chance to see our midfield against a world class midfield and our defense against a world class atack.

I think they will start with a strong team against us. Given it is a sell-out with 110k spectators, both managers ought to put strong teams out, at least in first half.

Damn. It has been great having the games on at decent times down here, though. I've had to miss two uni lectures so far, though moving house seems less avoidable somehow..
Yeah I'm not sure I can convince the missus to move in the afternoon due to a pre-season friendly, definitely not as avoidable as lectures. I easily missed many a lecture back in my uni days, Champions League is far more important.

Didn't think Ronaldo was on the tour but apparently he was on the bench last game. I'm gonna go with 433 for us, we're in early stages of our 352 and you can see that by the gaps often left between the full backs and the CBs, we just haven't faced wingers good enough yet to use this to their advantage but what about Ronaldo and Bale? in theory they will have a field day.

Indeed, Roma beat a team of kids, because when they were playing against the A side they didn't even touch the ball.
My point is that some people are assuming that because Roma beat Real, United is going to beat them easily, and that is far from the truth.

When Totti scored, the only players who were replaced from the team which started were Casillas, Pepe and Coentrao and were replaced by Lopez, Nacho and Arbeloa. None of these are kids. (Except for a youngster to youngster swap)Also, Roma made their own substitutions.

Obviously beating Madrid won't be easy, it is different game altogether and yes Madrid might have had better chances against Roma. Doesn't mean Roma beat a team of kids. Facts points to something else.
