Am i the only one happy with our new disposition/identity? WE ARE CONTROLLING GAMES NOW FFS. No more of that incoherent hit and hope aimless nonsense from last season.

IMO this is the least important game in the pre season. LVG already has his starting 11 for sat and the players don't want to get hurt. It's clear at the lack of urgency. Get threw no injuries then we see the real united on sat. I hope

I think Hernandez's lack of involvement in build-up play is affecting us. We have always looked much better with Welbeck this pre-season.
Agreed. Welbeck worked further back and also put much pressure on the other team in their half, something you don't see much from Hernandez. Chicharito is basically waiting for gaps in the other team's defense to attack, which he's good at, but that alone isn't gonna cut it. That's why he's never been more than a joker for us.

The only players that haven't impressed have been Rooney, Mata, Hernandez and Fletcher imo, all the others doing well. However, the build up is dreadfully slow and we're not testing their defence enough. Too much passing among the back 3. Blackett's been great again, same with Smalling, James got better as the game went on, got past his man quite a lot, Jones decent, Young looking great again, Herrera has been our MOTM so far imo, great in the box to box role, Fletcher has been poor despite that marvellous pass to Rooney, Mata has been dire, very disappointed in him against his old club, Rooney has been very poor, not offered much and diving in a pre season game? Wtf's that about? Hernandez has been anonymous and is hurting the build up imo. Not the right game for him, very slow build up and Valencia sitting deep (again, wtf?). Januzaj and Fellaini will definitely be coming on at half time imo and I wouldn't be surprised to see Kagawa come on either considering how poor Mata's been.

There have been positives, but also negatives and most of the negatives have revolved around our slow approach. A change is necessary to score imo. Has been a very boring game overall.

Hernandez Should be gone, he has no chance in either systems and welbeck will be third choice, i like hernandez he gave us great service, we should not stop his international career and also he does not deserve to be just on the bench.

.
I actually think Welbeck will displace one of Rooney/RvP as our starter this season.

I think the only thing lacking is a more technical player in the place of hernandez. Mata and Rooney need welbeck to link up with and keep the ball up top. Hernandez can finish but he can't really contribute much in any other way.

Yeah, I really hope he's fit for Swansea. Otherwise, we should start Wilson or maybe Januzaj, Hernandez doesn't work at all in this formation and if we want him he'll have to be used as a midgame sub -- against fatigued backlines where his running off the ball comes into handy.

hope the EPL teams aren't watching this, its just like the dutch team this formation doesn't work with teams that sit deep.
but its van gaal let's see what he comes up with 2nd half

Monitoring the preparation of the Vidal bid
I definitely think this isn't LvG's favoured system, Vidal and Di Maria would allow us to switch to a more fluid, better, 4-3-3 system. The Premier League isn't a knockout tournament, we don't need to sit back and try to nick wins like Holland did at the World Cup. We want people rushing forward and try to overload the likes of Crystal Palace, Burnley, etc.

In a way it's good that valencia are parking the bus because plenty of team will do that in the premier league, our only tactic last season was to cross teams to death, so it's interesting to see how van gaal will handle the buses.

Under Moyes we even didnt have possesion.
I think we did :) but nevermind, its pointless to debate it..

I just dont feel we can score from whatever tactics or play or strategy from the first hald

His link up play has always let him down.

Ermm not really. How about you get your blinkers off before commenting? Young had two players closing him down but his perseverance got him a little luck and he put in a decent cross.

It really annoys me when people like you have preconceptions about certain players and will use any excuse to criticise
Calm down mate, it was just funny how it happened. Out of all the UTD players I think overall Young has impressed the most preseason

Isn't the lack of penetration up front why the rumours about cavani might actually have some substance to them. The team has missed someone who can receive the ball in advanced midfield positions and carry the ball deep into the final third.

That's what Welbeck normally does well and what Hernandez (esp.) and Rooney are failing to do this evening.

Cavani could play this Welbeck role with the added bonus of him being a far superior goal scorer.

Hernandez is invisible in a system that involves patient build up.. Sure he's good at getting on the end of things but he severely limits us in anything else, it's like we have 10 men.
