Pienaar will be a big boost for Everton, knits things together nicely and has a great workrate, reminds me a lot of Park

suspension and injuries have further weakened our already thin midfield. leaving us with limited options and we will go back to start the game with a 532 setup:

    ddg
    rafael, mcnair, rojo, blackett, shaw
    blind, adm, mata
    rvp, falcao

subs: lindegaard, thorpe, fellaini, fletcher, valencia, pereira, januzaj

    plan:
to start the game in the most balanced way. we can switch to a 442 diamond by substituting shaw with fellaini or fletcher. could go even for 433 by pushing up adm into the wide left upfront and perhaps to have januzaj to replace one of falcao/rvp.
. The lineups were released long ago

I don't mind Valencia playing in central midfield as long as he stays in that position and doesn't even attempt to move to the wing. I have always felt he could do a job in central midfield especially as a defensive midfieder. Don't be surprised to see him become a central midfielder in the future. Van Gaal turned Schweinsteiger, a winger into one of the best central midfielders.
That's what I'm worried will happen. And with Di Maria already doing that on the other side it could leave us very exposed through the middle, especially since Mata doesn't help out as much as Rooney would.

I really think this is going to be ugly for us with Valencia in CM and McNair going up against Everton.

Got 10 out of 11 right. Wasn't sure between Valencia and Fletcher.

I hope this means we'll play to our strengths. Just attack and keep the ball (somehow)

    That bench:drool:
5 out of the 7 subs are our youth products. So much for the club losing its identity and shit.

Valencia! Good to see Wilson on the bench but it's a shame both Fellaini and Fletcher are there ahead of Pereira. One of them would have been enough.

Valencia, while shit should at least provide us with energy and strength in midfield. His attacking play isn't up to much but I think he can be solid enough in midfield.

It is interesting that LvG prefers McNair over Blackett, but he was very clear when he said that McNair is the only available defender who can play the right CB position. I would have preferred Blackett who can better handle Lukako's pace and strength.

Valencia can sit and provide cover for Rafa to get forward, I think he'll be fine with a competent team around him. It was when he was given the impetus to take charge as a senior player that he largely fell flat on his face.

I think lvg chose McNair because he had a good game last week. and blackett can be a bit rusty coming back to the team.

I was going to put Fletcher but the article from Steve Bates overnight just about swung it. He was spot on in preseason with lineups and was not sure he'd be right once season began but he was this time. The new David McDonnell in terms of lineups?

Best line up of who we have fit, get a positive result today and have the international break to get players back and fit to play again. Were going to need them for the games we have coming up. So fingers crossed for today it wont be easy.

Knew Fletcher wouldn't be playing since he wouldn't confirm who the captain would be the other day at the presser. Mata coming in was obvious. Valencia is a bit stranger. Not sure how that will play out. I know he's played centrally for his country, but it's a different business in the Premier League.

But when you look at how it's worked so far Herrera has been so important at keeping us ticking by quickly moving the ball forward and that's been based on his comfort on either side. Valencia retains possession very well but he does so by being very safe/cautious. I just don't see how Valencia can come in and do anything but unbalance us. Hope I'm wrong but for me feels like again it's a system picked so we can play 2 strikers as opposed to a system that would suit the players available.

Probably has more to do with the fact that McNair is right-footed.
