Possibly done his metatarsal the way it happened.

Club are shit at giving injury updates unless the press asks them for the senior players.
At least van Gaal mentions every one of them equally, with Moyes his press conferences were updates on Rooney and his family.

True. Atleast we know some players are injured or not due to Van Gaal's updates even if not the extent.

Sorry to bump the thread again but I notice in this pic from the team photo shoot he is still on crutches, any updates on how long he is expected to be out?

It can be "only" a bad sprain, people don't respect that generally but with a severe sprain you need to not use your articulation fo three to six weeks.

Physioroom mentioned on twitter (in answer to a question) that the initial estimate was 12 weeks. Ligament injury. Possibility that it might be longer.

Shame. If we're playing the diamond then Lingard has a real chance at becoming a useful squad player for the LCM or RCM positions.

Since now or the day when he got injured? I really think he could become useful player in our squad, very intelligent and versatile also very dedicated kid.. hope he comes back stronger

He has good pace and a few nifty moves, good acceleration as well.

He was doing well getting away from his marker for that 20 minutes or so, I though he looked very bright.

If he's out there with the big boys then he'll have a lot of space to operate as they won't want to double him.

It's probably a long shot, but I'd love to see a flat front 3 of Januzaj, Falcao and Lingard.

how about converting him to fullback? He will never gets a lot of chances as 10 which is his best position.. could be a good back up for Rafael. Has got good brain and intelligence to adapt IMO, as winger he is no world beater but as fullback with his clever quick feet and quick thoughts he could have a good link up play with Januzaj or whoever is there on that side. He would need to work hard on his positioning but he could be a good option there as Rafa is always injured and Valencia is one dimensional player... I actually thing lingard could play almost anywhere. And still quite young..

I see in the match day thread that telegraph has him down as starting today's game.. But can someone tell me whether he has played in atleast a single match reserve match after coming back from injury?

Would be good to see him back but it would be a little out of the blue.

Nope, he hasn't played any games with the reserves, but I have seen him in training pics. I doubt he'll play though, unless we have been playing a lot of behind closed doors friendlies, and he's featured in them.

I really want to see Lingard play as I do think LVG will love him as a player and he could be a good player for us.

Ye same. Where would you play him in a 352 or 442 diamond, though?

Before getting injured, Van Gaal experimented with him at RWB, but I'd much prefer him in the no.10 role. Can't remember who it was against, but he had a good game playing there against someone in pre-season.

I think he is a number 10 mainly.

But i think he can play on the wing and as a striker as he is versatile.

Apparently he's signed a new 3.5 year deal and has agreed to go on loan to Derby. Great news!

Not convinced the contract is necessarily a show of faith. More protecting investment if he has good 6 months.

Would still expect him to go in the summer

Great news that he signed a new deal. Hopefully he'll be given a chance after his loan, providing he does well there. Think he'll suit Derby's style. They play some good football.

Shame no Premier league club wanted him. He was very unlucky to get injured after few minutes of the game but I hoped he could make like 10-15 appearances considering his versatility. Championship loan is not step forward but neither step back as he wouldn't get much game time in the season in progress.

It's an excellent move for him. Wisdom and Ibe both went there and came back better footballers. They play an attractive style of football and are a team higher up in the league too so if he does come back to United he won't have to adapt to a completely different style. McClaren is excellent at developing youth.

I think he will have to, we'd have to drill that attractive football junk back out of him.

That is the best for him and like @Barney says Derby are the best club for him in the Championship.

The new contract is great too. I'm really a fan of him and Van Gaal has given him his Premier League debut against Swansea so he seems something in him.

I can watch Derby vs Bolton on TV on Saturday....so hopefully Lingard starts for Derby and Janko & Amos are playing for Bolton too

This is a good move for Lingard and one that he needed after getting that horrible injury against Swansea. Playing for Derby should be good for him as they play some nice football. It should also allow Lingard to get away from U-21 football where his development is being stagnated.

I'll look forward to seeing Lingard play some more first-team football, particularly for a team fighting for the Championship. This loan spell is one to keep an eye on in terms of Lingard's future with us.

One would assume he will fill in the space left by Ibe. Good move.
I kept up to date with Rams fans' views on Ibe most of the season. They miss Ibe's directness and trickery, not to mention occasional goals. But most importantly Ibe has learnt to track back really well and gain confidence/intelligence while on the ball (though he was still slated for his intelligence near the end). Something he lacked in the U21s.

Having seen Lingard I'd say he's ahead in the intelligence/confidence stakes on the ball. He's also a better and more natural goalscorer, going to an offensive team that will make use of that. The places he'll struggle, but then obviously have time to improve, is directness with strength (Ibe's big and extremely fast) and tracking back. So to echo what everyone has said I think Rams fans will be very excited to replace the big gap Ibe has left with Lingard. And McLaren is the right coach to teach the rest of the stuff.

Now he's only playing down the road from me until May so I may try and catch a couple of Derby matches to check on his progress.

I agree it's a very good move for him, he's playing under a good manager who will get the best out of him (and Tom Ince for that matter) and they're also playing decent football (most of the time) and chasing promotion. Plus they're still in the FA Cup, with a favourable draw so should be good experience for him.

Glad he is on a new contract. He is a player that would have many clubs after him, so if we can get him into our team, great. If not, we should be able to fetch a few million for him if he produces on loan.

Good luck to him.

Could be a good loan spell for him. Would've been better if a Premier League club showed an interest like Burnley or Qpr.
