Completely forgot about this guy since his first game for Chelsea when he did well.

Feels like a long time ago.

I was absolutely raging at the time his proposed transfer didn't materialise, which wasn't helped by a very impressive debut. Needless to say the mood has improved a bit since with Martial coming in and Pedro doing little. Footballs a funny game

It's so strange that a 19 year old can come in and completely change our opinion. A testament to Martial's talent in fairness!

Agreed but i don't think we'd have ended up with Martial right now if we had signed Pedro. I think although we'd done our homework on him we were forced into doing that deal sooner than planned. We could have then ended up missing the boat on him depending how this season went.

The guy has been useless to say the least. People here had a heart attack when we drew 0-0 against Newcastle the weekend he came Nd he had created and scored in his first game. Yet he looks like fish out of water sometimes

I watched the United match (Only one I saw of him since he joined) and in that, he was routinely ignored by teammates. I can remember on a couple of specific occasions where he was absolutely frustrated when his runs were ignored. Easy to single one player or another out when they are not scoring or providing assists but that doesn't necessarily mean it's on the player. Chelsea just happen to be a mess.

What a difference had he come to United and LVG et al hadn't procrastinated in his signing/fee

I'd still take him over pretty much all our options on the right. Not necessarily a ringing endorsement of any player however, considering how bereft of quality we are in that position.

I won't put the blame solely on him.

Saw him play last week against Everton and i actually thought he did well. He was the only one putting in crosses and he was causing some problems in second half until he got pulled off which i thought was a mistake.

Struggles with the physicality and too often tries to force things, giving the ball away too much. However, he does tend to be involved in all our best attacks and has the best game intelligence out of our attackers. He also gets ignored by Hazard/Oscar and to an extent Willian as they don't bother looking up for the through ball most of the time and would rather keep it themselves or play it safe. To many players are more interested in having the ball then actually creating attacking opportunities, Hazard being the worst for it.

But he hasn't even got the basics right mostly. For instance last 2 games he has been subbed for Kenedy at HT and 70th min respectively and tbf knees looks more lively than him. Everton game he was up against Oviedo who is a left footed back up LB playing as a makeshift RB yet they had maybe 2 good crosses all game. He isn't even good possession wise as he is squandering the ball quite often leading to a goal even against west brom and a harmless ball which he tried to do too much by taking it to the Chelsea corner only for him to concede a corner after mirallas put pressure on him. His passing is good but he seems to lose the ball quite a lot from what I've seen. I don't think it's just a case of Chelsea being a mess after all.

He isn't a bad player, but he was always going to be far from a player some expected and rated him to be. His biggest weapon was scoring goals(and a workrate) which he was far from great in last few seasons at Barca too despite having good record(from my weak memory). It just shows that having decent record at Barca Barca isn't that hard if you you are good poacher and know how to make good runs with decent finishing.
At Chelsea, he was never going to get that kind of threatment, especially in this years' Chelsea. They are expecting him to do lot more than that and all around he was always far from special player, he is average in lot of "winger" stuff.

I wonder where are all those posters who were laughing at the opinions that he is far from some world class player who will instantly improve our or Chelsea's team and that we are idiots for missing out on him.

A few comments from the Chelsea forum:

It would have been best if Pedro was sent to United. United would have lost 20 Mil, Chelsea would have saved 20 mil, Barca will get the money and Pedro will start over there ! I feel like we bought ourselves another Victor Moses for 20 mil in Pedro.
How he still gets in the team ahead of Kenedy baffles me.
Time to call a spade a spade...a woeful buy...can we send him back to barca?
He hasn't done that much to impress me all season to be honest. He's reasonably quick and works hard but never seems to have the ball under control at pace (like willian for example). And at 27/28 I think it may take him longer then he likes to get to grips with the physicality of the prem. Can see him heading back to Barca.
Looked great in his first 2 games but ever since has been woeful. I had high hopes for him but he looks lost out there
Hopefully he will improve with a season under his belt.Up to now i must admit to being underwhelmed.Very lightweight.
I thought he would offer us goals but at the moment he looks lightweight and doesn't seem to suit English football. But he isn't the only under performer for us this season.

He's obviously gonna struggle playing for what is the worst Chelsea team in years. Happy he's flopped thus far though, thought we'd regret not signing him.

The meltdown when we didn't get him was hilarious.

Never good enough for us and he's proving it now at Chelsea.

I still think Pedro would have done much better than either Lingrad or Mata in our RW. Pretty much most of the Chelsea team is crap this season.

Mata is twice the player Pedro will ever be. Racking up nice stats playing next to Messi is not all that hard

Something just occurred to me. This idea that united had doubts about Pedro.
What a load of bull. Woodward was the one who started all this by briefing united were going to sign him.
No way would he have done that and pursued it without LVG's say so.
Embarrassing to miss out, embarrassing to try and lie about it too.
@AKDevil

this is fecking embarrassing as we likely don't have an alternative.
@forevrared

We're an absolute shambles of a club

It's not exactl hard to see why we're miles behind Chelsea

He is a team player and not a brilliant individual, that's why I was never that keen on him. He would have been a good fit, if we would play some nice posession-based and attacking football. But the way we and Chelsea are playing, he won't help anyone at all. He isn't the one who can drag a team out of a mess. We need a tricky winger, who can do great things on his own.

His runs get ignored by Chelsea players, their build up play is too slow. He suits a counter attacking team better who release the ball early. Chelsea are not good at counterattacks. Which is why he wouldn't do well under LVG either.

Van Gaal would probably be getting the blame for "ruining" him if we'd have signed him.

i was fuming when Pedro rumour became more then a rumour and we were interested in him. Never rated him, think he is an average player that was a perfect fit in a great team but this Chelsea season proves nothing. The whole team bar Willian plays awful so players quality isnt an issue there, the problems lay elsewhere....

Yeah I didn't say I was completely against his signing :D

There weren't a lot of other likely candidates in the summer and for that fee it wouldn't have been a bad deal imo, but not the perfect one either. Everything else was just some optimism and I am also happy we didn't sign Otamendi :)
