That's exactly how I'm viewing it. Mistakes were made, and fortunately it led to a situation where no one was harmed physically and like you say provided genuine practice.

Seriously though, if you read about the preparation for match days at the ground, it is absolutely baffling how it wasn't spotted this morning, long before any fans showed up.

Well, he hasn't. What happened today has nothing to do with what happens on the pitch.
It's as if some people would be slightly more accepting of such a situation if we were sitting top of the league. It takes a special brand of imbecility to draw comparison between the two.

It's 2016 - terrorism is real - how can Old Trafford spend multiple days with a (potentially) explosive, unknown, device in one of its bathrooms? The idea that people are let into the venue without a full sweep is scary enough. The idea that events can be carried out midweek without security checks is insane.
Earlier today I was praising the team that evacuated the stadium and the forces that worked to ensure the safety of all the individuals who attended the game today (including friends and family of mine). Now I am left red faced.
Are there people who think this is a minor event?

Let's just hope that the next time this "external company" carry out a bomb training exercise they follow basic instructions.....count the number of fake bombs placed in position......retrieve same number of fake bombs at the end of training. Common sense to most of us, but....

To be fair, if it was a training exercise involving the police, and a private company employed by the police, you can hardly blame the club for assuming they'd do their jobs properly.
I doubt this very much I'd say it would be embarrassing for club and external firm if it happened to Barcelona
People will have you believe the club are in no way responsible for any of this and it's certainly not embarrassing, with the only reason some believe so is because we missed out on CL and have only scored 46 goals, never mind the fact an external company was able to forget a lifelike bomb in an OT toilet for four days before some random steward spotted it an hour before kick off today.
What I don't understand is if you have a training exercise like this with fake devices, surely at the end of the exercise you make sure all the devices are accounted for before leaving. Absolute shambles!

Of course that somebody has to be fired there, probably one that forgot to check their equipment. He'll cost his company around 3 mln pounds most likely. Today could have ended in some mass panic attack while leaving the stadium, there could've been the injured or even stampeded to death if shit got serious.
To pretend that everything is alright is pretty silly. Kudos to our stewards, the police and military for making all this stuff go, thankfully, impeccably safe but somebody's fecked up nontheless and should pay for it.
The best way to bury these embarrassing headlines is to sack LVG. Frame him as the fake bomb planter.
The external company should have insurance. They screwed up in a big way, they should count in & out those things. They should be aware of the risks of leaving a bomb in a public place.
I think glass half full is how well the evacuation and emergency procedures were followed. There was no panicking or chaos, it was handled as well it could have at a sporting event with that many fans present.
The other side of this is how shocking it is that the stadium wasn't swept for explosive devices long before kick-off, why was the device found after the stadium had started to fill out.. Terrorists don't always walk in with the bombs on them, the security checks before the game, especially the day before one need to be more thorough.
Overall though I think the police and the stadium officials handled the situation the best they could, and I'm glad no one got hurt
