I find it hard to accept that my country voted to remain in the EU but has been dragged out of it by people who don't live here.
I was on Stella and San Miguel, in keeping with our EU brethren. Now it's time for Tennent's Super I guess.I was on whisky and coke as early as yesterday afternoon. Although it started with gin and tonic i ditched the tonic at 4ish.

Because we aren't losing our biggest trading partner, we will continue to trade with them, like any other country outside the EU. We had the same alarmist scare mongering when Britain decided against signing the schengen agreement, the same when Britain opted out of the EU charter of fundamental rights. Business will not be hurriedly leaving our borders because we voted Leave, there are ample reasons why multinationals base their headquarters in London, it's why London is regularly voted as the best city in the world for business, culture and innovation, with the vast majority of its closest competitors coming from outside of the EU. There will be a period of resettlement, but the EU aren't going to cut off their nose just to spite their face just to make an example out of Britain. If that is their attitude then why would we want to be associated with an organisation that holds personal pride over the interests of its members?
It's not racist to want tighter border controls, in fact, lumping all the Leavers together as racists is no different than the generalisation you're claiming they hold about immigrants. For many, like me, this was a secondary issue when deciding my vote.

Maybe. But both Scotland and Northern Ireland have voted far more decisively than the national vote in favour of Remain. Pulling them out of the EU against their will does raise immediate legitimate desires for independence referendums.
The possibility of a heavily controlled border across Ireland is a massive issue, as those of us on the Remain side predicted.

The results map in the Guardian shows clearly that in England and Wales the urban areas voted remain and the rural areas voted leave. Make of that what you will.

It'll never happen. Political suicide for anyone north or south of tbe border if they call for it. Unless the EU sends in an invading police force to enforce border controls but that would never happen. This will be near the top of negotiations and be used to keep NI from breaking away.
The issue is so far and beyond in terms of incitement and controversy that it simply will not be allowed to happen. Especially when there are unpoliced borders between EU and non EU countries already in existance.
The waters will be muddied enough to get around this.

No British person here so didnt follow up much things related with recent referendums but was there a stay in EU hook as one of reasons why Scotland should vote stay last time?

I voted remain too - but have some respect for those who voted leave. I'm sure some may be what you say, but don't tar all with the same brush.
Yes. Those in favour of staying in the UK told us that we would be out of the EU and wouldn't be guaranteed to get back in. That was a big selling point at the time.
Just got up and seen the news. I voted leave and am obviously delighted. As I said in the other thread last week this is a result based more on the absolutely dire quality of the Remain campaign's project fear that anything else. Wrong message from day #1 and they never changed it.
