Giggsy will always be a footballing hero for me. I wear #11 jersey and play on left wing because I grew up watching him. But his scandals have really soured it up for me. Somethings are above football and he crossed some lines in his personal life. I want to see the man make changes to his personal life before he returns. You can't handle a club like Manchester United if your house is not in order.
Good post, agreed... He clearly has to sort out his personal life.

No matter how good you were as a player there is no guarantee you can manage. He has to go out and manage a club for a few years and find out. I love him but we cannot take more risks at our club that has already faltered mightily over the last 3 seasons.

That's been evident for a long time. That and the pack mentality that exists on here sometimes.
Yea people just seem to want to belong to something or follow something, leads to group think...

I can't care less about his personal life. If he had SAF's track record and brilliance I wouldn't care if he screw all his family for all I know. What I am concerned is

a- the fact that he's got zero managerial experience and a level of entitlement which goes beyond the ridiculous. Its ridiculous for him to think that he could end up Man United's manager by simply stay put and bring tea to LVG.

b- the club's attitude towards its former players. Strictly speaking I wouldn't be too much stringent on A if we were a club who wouldn't mind to show the door to a legend if he doesn't perform. AC Milan give plenty of opportunities to ex players and they had some successful stories (Ancelotti, Capello etc). However they were equally ruthless in sacking those who were shite and do it quickly before they do too much damage. Are we able to do that? We all know its not the case.

With all due respect Dev... Who gives a fcuk what you think? The guy clearly has some personal issues, so on a personal level, I hope he works them out. The professional stuff has been done to death so I'll leave the hashing and rehashing it all out to you and your disciples...

Good.

Seriously, some of the most hardworking/productive people I've worked with, just couldn't keep it in their pants. I don't like them as people but I can't deny that they were good in what they did.

Its the work performance that matter not what he does in his personal life

I believe the big mistake made by United was to bend over backwards to keep them happy. We've had Giggs and Scholes being kept at the club with barely any competition whatsoever, just for them to feel useful. Fletcher was sick and was still kept (and no reinforcement were made that might jeopardise his role with us) while Gaz remain at OT even though it was evident to everybody apart from SAF and himself that he was finished. Its not just the class of 92. We did the same mistake with Keano who spent the last 2 years literally walking on the pitch because he could barely run anymore. However Keane was a one off, when the class of 92 got to that stage there were 4-5 players like that and that's unacceptable.
That lead for the club's quality to nose down, ambitious talent grew impatient and left (ie Pogba) and an aura of complacency grew within the club.

Under such circumstances you cant blame the players (former and present) for thinking that the club owes them big time and that can they get away with almost anything. Take the present side as an example. Its as if we owe Rooney a midfield role because he's becoming too shit upfront. Its not the case
Yes.

I fear that sentimentality was a huge problem for us. But I think in Fergie's old age he had mellowed and the class of 92 were like family to him.

I have no problem with them getting ambassadorial posts, but anything else must be earned purely on merit, against the best candidates.

That's bollocks to be honest mate. Just because a majority of people share the same opinion doesn't make it a "pack mentality".

I think you are overstating it. Giggs and Scholes were still able to contribute up until their retirement, other members from the CO92 include Beckham who was sold, Gary Neville who retired the minute he felt he couldn't contribute, Phil Neville who was sold owing to not getting any playing time and Nicky Butt for the same reasons. Only Giggs and Scholes were allowed to grow old as regulars because they could still influence games.

Fletcher (who isn't part of the CO92) is an entirely different situation, it only made sense to see if we could bring him back after his injury/illness.

The lack of reinforcements being brought in is a reflection on management, not on any of the individuals who made up the bulk of our most successful period in club history.

Even Fergie has said he should get out and stand on his own two feet and prove himself - leave the womb, go do it...then come back if you are good enough.
And he's doing it and it could be a very good decision for his career. Personally, I would've spent some seasons under Mourinho as his assistant to increase my knowledge, but either way, as Mourinho said, it's a brave and honest decision.

"That is believed to have shocked the Welshman"

What does that even mean? Either you know it did, or you don't. It's not some sort of theism, if the thought suddenly sprang into Hirst's mind that Giggs might be shocked by Mourinho's words then it's Hirst's own assumptions or opinions. If he's been briefed then it's not a case of "believing" it's a case of "knowing" in which case "Giggs is known to be shocked".

Either way I'm bored by the whole thing.

Mourinho's comments were a harsh honest truth that one needs to hear. People who truly won't to help you won't brown nose they will tell you the truth and give you honest advice, that's what Mourinho did in my opinion. Giggs needs to accept he's not qualified to be United manager yet, this should drive him to become a Manchester United worthy manager.

And I never said it did. Just that it exists. Not in all cases but in some. Few cared about his private life before and everyone does for some reason.

Press trying to bring up drama is so boring. Giggs wanted to be manager, but United chose Mourinho. Giggs felt hurt due to his sense of entitlement. United still want to keep him at the club, however, Mourinho isn't going to have someone under him, who directly wants his job. Especially when he has a assistant manager he trusts and has worked with for years. So rather than being demoted, Giggs left.

Nothing shocking about what Mourinho has revealed. All makes perfect sense. Plus Giggsy knows that even if he fails with his managing career, he is always welcome at the club. Might even come back one day as an ambassador. He is one of the greatest legends in the history of the club and one of my all time favorite players. Best of luck to him and hopefully he'll make a great manager.

The lack of reinforcements being brought in is a reflection on management, not on any of the individuals who made up the bulk of our most successful period in club history.

A player doesn't need to leave the pitch on a wheel chair to retire. Most of them retire despite being able to provide 20 minutes of good football every alternative game. The reason being that clubs have a set wage budget and they have to respect it. An old player needs to be paid and at one point you had decide whether to keep them and not bring anybody else or else let them go.

Returning to SAF's CM we had Carrick (only decent player in midfield), Scholes (SAF's kid), Giggs (SAF's kid), Cleverley (SAF's kid and not very good in playing football), Fletcher (SAF's kid with a career threatening sickness whom there was no way that he would return to United's level after that) and Ando (SAF liked him so much that he was 2 years away from his testimonial game despite having producing anything for the last 4 years) which in terms of bodies on the pitch were enough. Under such circumstances no wonder why SAF was probably the only person on earth not to acknowledge that we had a teeny weeny problem in CM. FFS even Scholes once said that something is wrong when your best 2 midfielders are at the wrong side of their 30s.

Under such circumstances, were United used to bend over backwards just to keep giving these players a salary no wonder why the golden oldies have that sense of entitlement. The club is all about them after all

He actually thought he'd get the United seat after LVG. You don't need to know him personally to know that's a stupid level of self entitlement.

Across the Universe....from Old Trafford.
Sounds like he expected to be Jose's assistant.

Personally I'm glad he is gone. Great footballer. But his sense of entitlement to even be an assistant manager is poor. Go prove yourself elswhere. Earn the right to be Manchester United manager.

Is there a Guiness book of world records attempt for the most uses of the word entitlement in a thread on an Internet forum going on? Entitlement.

And maybe he was given the impression that he would get it? Who knows? Neither me nor you. Wanting the job isn't the same as feeling entitled to it. All we know is that he's left. Good luck to him, let's hope he becomes a successful manager and has a fulfilling lovelife...
Giggs said himself that he left because he wanted to become a manager.
Mourinho said that Giggs left because he wanted to become a manager.
Unnamed friends of Giggs Says.......I'm going to leave it there.
And in an article calling Mourinho's comments a "jibe", while they actually were encouraging and respectful. But of course, if you've already decided that Giggs is a cnut, then that's the one you're going to believe.

And how on earth could he believe that he could get the job despite having zero managerial experience whatsoever? He either felt entitled to it or he is incredibly stupid.

I don't understand that article. Mourinho never said anything negative or disrespectful about Giggs, he just told the truth and reiterated what we all already knew; that Giggs wanted to be manager.

Like I said, maybe he was given indications that he would get it. And besides, others have done it before, like Pep. But my point is simply that we should stop pretending we know stuff we don't know. Maybe Giggs said: "I have to be a manager now, either at United or somehere else." Which isn't entitled nor stupid. Or maybe he is both entitled and stupid. You and I have no idea though.

Mourinho handled the question extremely well, he was honest, and even related to Giggs having gone through the same situation himself with his story at Barcelona. I don't think there's anything in this story and it's just the press filling a blank spot.

The board were never going to put him in charge full time with the club in the state its at. Moreover, wanting is one thing, but reportedly passing various managerial opportunities to hold out for the best job in England is another (e.g. IIRC he didn't want to put himself in the running for the Swansea job). That's where entitlement comes in.

We don't even know if these opportunities ever existed. Personally I really doubt Swansea would offer him the manager job.

? I don't think Giggs is a cnut, he is one of my favorite players of all time along with Cantona. My point was the the article is probably BS.

I would have imagined this is the way it actually went:-
LVG Sacked
United tell Giggs that Mourinho is going to be named manager and he can have a role in the club, maybe with the first team or something around development, basically we'll find something for you.
Giggs say i'll think about it and get back to you (Giggs spent a lot of time from LVG going and the rest of the staff leaving to when he made his announcement).
Giggs thinks and say thanks but no thanks I'm going to look for a manager's Job elsewhere.
United tell Mourinho Giggs is leaving.

You think no club asked for his services while he was an assistant manager for Moyes & LVG?
